How you heard of LW: Pern Webring
Character InformationName: L’kel
[
u]Gender: Male
Age/Birthday:[/u] 31
Orientation: Heterosexual
Location: Sodalis Weyr
Rank/Wing: Assistant Weyrlingmaster (Rides with Bloodchar Wing)
Standing:
He is greatly maddened by the northern ways being southern bred himself. Although he is a pacifist when possible he will, if it seems needed, use force to control the north. Even so he realizes that many of the people in the northern holds and halls are simply innocents. As he grew up in a hold, he does have some sympathy for hold types.
Family:Farther Larsel-Southern Holder. Age 51. Larsel is a southern holder, and although his hold is not large enough to me a main hold, and therefore he is not a LORD holder, Meridan Hold is of a good size and it prospers. He is a rugged man, of much the same look as L’kel. He met Enorka when she was traveling through the south and happened upon their hold. They promptly fell in love. L’kel was to take over from him after his death. When L’kel was searched, they had a big row, Larsel almost forbid L’kel from going.
Mother Enorka-MasterSinger. Age 48. She is a great singer and a good mother. Although her music sometimes comes first, she does love her two children dearly. She is an extremely slight and small woman, which is one of the reasons she only has two children. After Lekora was born it was deemed much too dangerous for her to have any more children, or else the result could be fatal. She perhaps, gave L’kel his more thoughtful nature.
Sister Lekora- Journeywoman harper. Age 24. Like her mother, her voice is like that of an angel’s. L’kel is simply devoted to her, and loves to dote on her horribly. She is a pretty thing and is much loved.
Pets: Just 1 brown flit named Eko. Eko is named after his sister Lekora, whom he loves very much. Eko, is much more patient and less flighty then some other flits. Although he is less excitable then most, he is not very good at errands as he prefers to do what he pleases and not take orders. Even so, Eko and L’kel are quite a good match. L’kel received his flit as a 12th birthday present from his father. Being a holder he was entitled to two eggs when a clutch was found. When living in Meridan, L’kel also had an assortment of Canines and Runners that he worked with and was companion to. He had to leave them all behind when he was searched, but he still visits them and their descendents when he has the time.
Appearance: He gives off an aura of physical and emotional control, he is dignified in his looks and ways. His eyes are the only thing that shows his true feelings 100% of the time. His hair is extremely dark, and almost black, though he often shaves it off. He has however, to compesenate, grown a close cut bear on his chin. His eyes are a rich, chocolaty brown and always look like they are filled with more wisdom and maturity then L’kel’s age permits. When looking deep into those eyes, it is almost hard to come out. He has strong bone structure and full lips. He looks quite the same as he did 6 turns ago, with a few changes. His lips which used to be pressed and his brow which used to be furrowed constantly are now relaxed, and he oftens cracks a smile. He can certianly still put on the imposing face when needing a stern talk with a Weyrling, but he is much warmer, in his eyes and his face than he used to be.
He is quite tall and muscular, with a build along the same lines as his dragon’s. He stands a towering 6’5” and often times, people get the absolute wrong impression about him, just from his size. There is barely an ounce of fat on his body and that is not surprising after riding a dragon for seventeen years. He is extremely muscular and toned. His skin is not like most other peoples, but unlike on Terra, he is not discriminated by it.
His skin is a dark, dark, creamy brown color. So dark that it often looks black in half light. There are no blemishes or marks dotting his smooth skin, and being a good bather, he is always clean and refined looking…a look not so easily mastered when riding dragons. He has a long scar going from the top of his thigh to his knee, this was caused from an accident involving a drunken blue rider and a knife, and you can guess the rest. L’kel tried to play peacekeeper but ended up getting sliced.
He stands up to his great height, never slouching or bowing his head, he looks dignified and in control, as his position would demand. Though he's a nice enough man, it's always helpful to look initmidating when dealing with the young Weyrlings. He walks purposefully everywhere he goes, but you can always tell that he never just jumps into anything, he thinks about a move he is going to make before he does, in that way he look a bit cautious when walking. He has never been much for clothes. When riding he wears light, brown leather and when he is not, he wears similarly colored cloth. He always wears dark brown boots that come up to the middle of his calves. For special occasions, he wears a white, flowy shirt, dark brown pants, a wine red/burgundy vest and a handsome brown cape. (See Robinton’s outfit on the cover of The Masterharper of Pern). It makes him look even better and more dashing then he usually does.
Personality: L’kel has a strong presence and air that makes people simply look up to him for advice and leadership. While he is quiet and not always a social person, he thinks things through thoroughly before doing them and has always been good at planning and when it is called for; scheming. He is good at problem solving and loves challenges. When making tough decisions; he has learned to keep his emotions of out of the equation. He is a pacifist and quite gentle by nature, though he isn't afraid to give out punishment if a Weyrling has misbehaved, considering the punishment as just.. But, especially after coming to the Weyr, he has learned when to fight and what to fight for. He is strong, independent and self-sufficient; he neither needs nor asks for help, although he likes giving it to others.
He has proved to be an apt teacher with the patience and experience needed to help tutor some of the less advanced Weyrlings. He can soak up tricky ideas and complex tactics as easily as breathing which made him a very valuable wing-second, and also means he has an excellent grasp of exactly what he is teaching, and how to do so.. When he does feel the need to say something, it is usually meaningful and helpful to others. He is a good man and a loyal friend; he is someone you would defiantly want by your side…but he also isn’t someone you would want against you. When he has to be, he can be sly and cunning, someone you wouldn’t want to mix with. He is extremely devoted to his Weyr and would not hesitate in dying for it. Though he came from a hold and belived in a class system, considerign some people lesser to others, he has now emersed himself in Weyr life and has become much mroe open minded about all sorts of people. Though he is by no means a social man, he is no logner awkward around others as he used to be, and can in fact conjure up quite a report with his Weyrlings. He is also stubborn and will not back down on something he believes is right. Even so, he is open to new ideas or different opinions and respects them (although he may not adapt them) if they are well presented and researched.
He is not scared of much, except losing his dragon, his sister and his Weyrmate, Aileigh. He used to concentrate so hard on his duties that he had no time for lovers. However, he has loosened up since then and has been with Greenrider Aileigh for 6 turns. Though some people raise aneyebrow because she is both a greenrider, who he used to look down upon, and older than him, he loves her and she has helped open up the touch exterior he used to wear. He also used to have a thing for Revonna and someday hoped to fly her and become a Weyrleader. Though he know longer has any attraction to the rider herself, he still has. deep down, an ambitious side which would always chase after the Gold. However, he is quite happy with his Assistant Weyrlingmaster position (though he'd someday love Senior) and his Weyrmate, though some tension has arisen as she is insecure about his interests towards golds..
History:
Being a holder’s son, and heir to a medium sized hold, his childhood was full of training and learning, instead of playing like other children. From the age of five he began a rigorous education in Hold management and other subjects. Being naturally bright and willing he gobbled up all the text and material he was given and after he had a very good understanding of history, geography, writing, science and math (at age 11) he began Hold management classes.
He was taught all about the running of a Hold, its policies, officials etc. as well as lots of etiquette. He also learned how to speak in front of crowds and manage people of all sizes and duties. He tolerated all this well, but perhaps this childhood is what made him so closed up and much too mature for his age.
A turn later, when he had recently entered his 14th turn, Searchriders came to Meridan. All the Hold children had been sent out for the Blue dragon to investigate. Of course L’kel was not one of them, he was supposed to be studying the weather patterns of the south…although he did sneak out. The blue rider had looked a bit disappointed by the hold children and had not found anyone suitable…until he came upon the young Lorkel. The blue immediately showed his interest in the boy and the entire hold was sent into a tizzy. There was absolutely no way Larsel was going to let his son leave! He was the Heir to Meridan…but Larsel did not take into account L’kel’s stubbornness. Their argument went a bit like this:
“Father!”
“No”
“But!”
“But nothing boy! You are the heir to Meridan Hold and you will not be running off to some Weyr, you have duties!”
“But Father, you said it yourself that my cousin Paykoron is turning into a fine man, he could be Lord…and being searched is a great honor. Please father, I will return promptly if I do not impress. And if I do well, it never hurts to have a dragonrider at your disposal, does it?” he said slyly.
Lorkel and his father stared at each other with great intensity. They were both of equal height, their eyes blazed. After Lorkel’s statement Lord Larsel paused, pondering the request. A satisfied gleam showed itself in Lorkel’s eyes. Lady Enorka, the Lord’s wife and Lorkel’s mother, took that moment to put in her opinion.
“Larsel…I think he should be allowed to go. It would be good to improve our favor with the Weyrs,” She said slowly.
“Humph,” he said, but Lorkel could tell that he had won. “On two conditions,” Larsel continued, “You must return immediately if you do not impress and you must do your best to improve or standing with the Weyrs”
“Oh, Father…” He said, he had almost reached out to hug Larsel but held back…his father wasn’t really a touchy feely fellow, “Thank you Father, you won’t be disappointed.” The boy then turned to his brown Fire Lizard and said quietly at first then louder, “I am going to Sodalis! I AM GOING TO SODALIS!”
And so he had left with nothing but a small satchel of clothes and Eko, his little Brown Flit. He had left behind most of his finer things, the things that reminded him of the hold…and although he fulfilled his end of the bargain and improved Meridan’s relations with the Weyr, he did not make up with his father for a few years. His candidacy went easily and without trouble. He did not make many friends out of the other candidates though, who were intimidated by his dominating presence and imposing size…he did however earn the immediate friendship of a brown Weyrling named P’iello.
P’iello was everything Lorkel was not. He was very bubbly and jovial and always one for making jokes. The two had a great bond and if Lorkel did not impress they would both be very sad, as Lorkel was bound to return to his hold immediately if he was unsuccesful. But such unhappy thoughts were kept to the back of L’kel’s mind. It was a good time for him and he began to come out of his shell. It was made obvious that he would impress not a month after he arrived…P’iello’s Furuth spoke to him! There conversation was short, mainly a greeting but L’kel was even more determined then ever to impress after that…the same thoughts that whirled around his head as he stood on the hatching sands in his white robe…
He was not nervous, nor was he over confident. The dragon chooses the rider, if he was chosen then that was the way it was meant to be, if not, well then that was that. The first egg wobbled and then promptly cracked…it was a bronze…a pure, beautiful bronze. What a good sign, a bronze hatched first. The not-so little dragonet blinked once and then its eyes turned and he saw Lorkel. Lorkel, for once didn’t have his emotions in check and in a fashion much unlike him self, he ran for the little beast, somehow knowing that it was his dragon, his life partner. They met in a loving embrace, L’kel, I am your Mnemozyth. Feed Me. I am yours. You are my rider. We are one. But, I am ever so hungry “Of course,” the boy had stammered, “ I’ll get you something right away…oh Mnemozyth, Mnemozyth!” The bronze was already large for being just hatched and seeing as he was first hatched and had made his choice with unmistakable speed; it was considered a good sign by all, an omen that the pair would do great things. They were not wrong.
Then came Weyrling training. They practiced hard in their training and it was no surprise to anyone that they finished first in their class. The Weyrling Master had even begun to think of them as another assistant for him because they finished all their work so quickly that they had begun to aid others who were farther behind. They proved to be excellent teachers and did this quite effectively I might add. P’iello and L’kel continued to be fast friends and bit by bit L’kel opened up even more…then the unthinkable happened. P’iello and Furuth were killed!
L’kel and P’iello who had both recently graduated from Weyrling training were both assisting the Weyrlingmaster because the assistant was sick with cold. By then it was expected that the pair of them would become Weyrlingmaster’s in their own time. P’iello had been teaching drills involving a skip between and then a blast of flame right after that. A young brown rider accidentally misjudged the skip and ended up coming out right in front of the elder brown rider. The brown, Ghurtanth had already begun to flame and with a horrified look the young V’ten realized that it was too late to stop. The flame hit P’iello as well as his dragon Furuth. They were hit with full force. They died within a second of each other, Furuth was barley able to hurl himself in between. Then L’kel closed up again, totally. All the good P’iello had done became undone…although he still helped Weyrlings from time to time he could not bare becoming a Weyrlingmaster and instead began to devote himself to fighting and tactics.
He was a young, rising star in the Bloodchar wing, the most formidable of all wings, run by the Weyrleader himself. When an opening came for Wingsecond, L’kel was immediately nominated for the job, and it came as no surprise to anyone that he received it. For the next, coming years, he trained hard and worked his Wing well, doing his part to make them one the best in both the Lateo and Sodalis Weyrs. However htings changed for him when he grew closer to a certain greenrider, Aileigh of Mereseth.
He loved her and she drew out the best in him. He changed his lfie after meeting her. He no longer felt it was as important to become a Weyrleader, he lost interest in a flying a Gold (mostly anyways) and remembered his childhood goal of becoming a Weyrlingmater. Aileigh's daughter Kaila also helped remind him of his passion for helping the youth of society. 6 turns ago, when the oppurtunity came after one of the assistants unfortuanately committed suicide, he took the job of Assistant Weyrlingmaster and willingly gave up his Wingsecond position at Bloodchar, though he still rides with them.
After he did so, he knew he'd made the right choice. Though he is a good leader, he definately prefered, and was much better at, dealing with the Weyrlings than with his fellow riders. It came naturally to him. He had been successful in his own Weyrling training, but had also learned to help others. He was worried he might have lost the knack he used to have, but fortuanately it was still there. He has also gotten over the death of his Weyrlinghood friend, and simpyl lets the memory of P'iello serve as a reminder and lesson when teaching the next generation.
At 31 turns now, he has been riding for 17 turns and is a valuable part of the Weyr. He, like everyone, was terribly sad about the Muneo disaster, though he lost no one personally. He was most greatly affected by the death of all those Weyrlings and eggs for the death of a young life is the most tragic death of all. However, he has the job he wanted, and an amazing mate...what could go wrong?
Dragon InformationName:]Mnemozyth (Nem-oh-zyth)
Color: Pure Bronze
Age: 17
Description:He is big; VERY big. When he hatched, he was almost the size of a Gold hatchling. He is well proportioned and extremely powerful. Of course, with that size, some grace and maneuverability is lost but Mnemozyth is still, suprisingly agile. Even so, he is a great dragon with endurance like Brown. He has great stamina and speed and can propel himself easily throught the air with his great wings. Just don’t ask him to fit into any tight spaces. He is muscular but not unnecessarily.
He has a very nice Bronze tone, some call it plain but it is a pure and clean Bronze color. It is simple and bright, almost the perfect Bronze that was what the color was named for. He has a wider head then most dragons and a large mouth. His eyes are a wide almond shape and their neutral color is a fairly deep blue. He has various scars marking his otherwise fine hide. The most prominent of which is a long scar going across his wing from Weyrling training when a young blue weyrling accidentally crashed into the bronze slicing his wing in the process of untangling themselves.
Personality:Despite is size he is not overly forceful and more thoughtful .He thinks about how to improve maneuvers and tactics almost unconsciously which is quite a helpful trait. Even though he is perhaps not as aggressive as other bronzes, he commands respect from other wingriders because of his good leadership qualities and experience. This carries over into his job teaching the Weyrling dragons. He is a good, fair teacher, and one who should be listened to. Even though he prefers not to use force when it is not needed, he will not hesitate to use all his power when the situation calls for it. He is extremely loyal to his rider and his Weyr and would do anything for them. Like his rider, he has a great work ethic and can be trusted to do any job assigned to him, often doing more then expected. He is a great Weyrlingmaster dragon and a great asset to the Weyr. He is as calm and controlled as his rider and keeps his emotions out of his duties as well.
History:His impression was a quick one. He knew immediately who he wanted and headed straight for L’kel. He had hatched quickly, without much rocking of the shell, just itching to be out of his dark prison.
L’kel, I am your Mnemozyth. Feed Me. I am yours. You are my rider. We are one. But, I am ever so hungry. “Of course,” the boy had stammered, “I’ll get you something right away…oh Mnemozyth, Mnemozyth!” That was how their 17 year partnering of dragon and rider has begun. Weyrling training was quite enjoyable for Mnemozyth. He loved flying with L’kel and the feeling he got when he successfully completed missions given to him. Even though he raced ahead of many of the other Weyrlings, he enjoyed helping and tutoring those far behind.
It was no surprise to anyone that he and his rider became a Wingsecond not long after completing Weyrling training. As Wingsecond, he performed very well. He always excelled in challenges and was constantly outdoing himself to beat personal bests. Just like in Weyrling training, he enjoyed giving private attention to those in the Wing who are falling behind.
He has much as L'kel, and perhaps slightly more still, always wished for the glory of flying a gold. However, his heart opened to the green Naraleth just as L'kel's opened to Morelia. He realised this green was as much as he needed. He also supported L'kel 100% in their disicion to change duties to Weyrlingmaster, for it was his calling as well as his riders. Indeed, his urge to fly a Gold stemmed not so much from the position it gave, but from the gold herself, so he was not shaken about leaving a Wingsecond position.
He has progressed like L'kel has, learning more every turn about dealing with Weyrlings and enjoying his stable mate. He also feels like like L'kel does about the Muneo disaster. In fact, they are more connected and together, than every previously.
Clutch: Bronze Beodath/Gold Caliath
