Mariska splashed water in her face and dapped the droplets with a clean cloth. She walked back over to her bed, empty and only rumpled on one side, and picked up her riding leathers. As she pulled them on she thought about how stiff they felt. They weren't like her old ones, they didn't smell the same, feel the same or look the same. Nothing was the same.
She mounted Zramuth in the Gold's wallow and the two glided down to the Weyrbowl. She couldn't help but smile as she felt the wind wipping around her. It always felt good to be flying..it felt alive.
It was still dark when they landed in the bowl after two candlemarks of flying. Mariska liked training before most everyone else. She used to revel in the company of others, but now she felt more secure alone. She touched the scar on below her temple by habit and sighed. Then she closed her eyes, counted to five and opened them to find the sun just peaking over the horizon.
A new day had begun. The many colors of the dawn were mirrored in her dark eyes. She loosened all of Zramuth's straps and shared a quick smile with her Queen. Good morning, Mine. Good morning, little one. The Gold replied. Mariska then seated herself and leaned against the glittering Queen, casting her eyes to the sky to greet the arrival of the riders out for some morning excersize.

Helios landed as a precise unit on the training field, keeping the left echelon formation intact even while coming out of between. I'an allowed himself a half smile as Reminth gave his report. Morning drills had been good, the Wing was still flying short but they were flying well. It looked like they might stand a chance in the Games after all.
Tell the Wing they've got a candle mark off, we'll debrief and be back in the air then.
The bronze rider along with most of the wing gave a brief salute toward Mariska and Zramuth before heading off about their various tasks, they were all too well aware of the Lady Gold's dislike of Helios and respected that. L'nuo and Enuth were one of the few left on the field.
Rough flying this morning huh? You handled yourself well though. The brownrider slapped Enuth affectionately on the shoulder as the dragon rumbled his assent. The down drafts out over the rim islands had been dangerously strong... much like Ista or so I'an had insisted. Mind dropping me off at the hall? Breakfast sounds good.
Not as long as you loosen the straps so I can nap. Food always sounds good to you. Aren't you going to pay your respects?
What? L'nuo was puzzled by his lifemate's words, looking he noticed the gold and her rider for the first time. Not sure if that would be healthy... all things considered.

Mariska nodded in response to tbe wingriders' greetings. She acknowledged them mechanically, but didn't think they'd expect anything more. She briefly wondered how I'an was fairing, now that Helios was his. Mostly though, she was just leaning back against Zramuth, her eyes glazed as she watched the wing file out of the training grounds.
She had a quick double take as she noticed L'nuo looking at her again. 'Now what did he want?' she though to herself.
((sorry for both the wait and the short post, next one will be better))
