Killian brushed his hair out of his face as he made his way down to the kitchens of the Harper Hall. There was really no point behind the motion other then a nervous habit that occasionally cropped up, and Killian was nervous though only slightly and not in a way that anyone would notice. This was his anniversary; he had officiously been living in this Great Hall for ten wonderful turns now and what’s more, though he was not intent on telling anyone else of this, this was the day that he was blinded twelve turns ago.
A small sad smile crossed his handsome face at the thought but he quickly shook it away as he neared the kitchens. When he reached the place where he knew the doors where, Killian reached out his hand out to grab the handle only to have it wrenched out of his hand. His unseeing eyes widening on instinct the Harper stepped aside quickly and barely avoided being ran into as the person who had opened the door came rushing out. “Excuse me,” he said kindly bending slightly at the waist in greeting to the person, “I didn’t realize you would be coming out so quickly.”

Apricus had been so startled to find a body on the other side of the door that she dropped the roll and cup of klah she had been holding. The hot liquid splashed onto the cement and spattered her bared ankles, making her gasp a second time in surprise.
The man who moved hastly to the side was one that Apri had seen around the hall, but had never been introduced to. Seeing him bend and appologize, she blushed deeply, not realizing that he was blind.
"Oh there is no need to appologize. I shouldn't have been moving so quickly." she said as she bent to pick up the now-empty cup and roll. Frowning at them she sighed a little. Now she'd have to go back inside and get new ones...

Master Bartalan had been in his study for 3 candle marks. The records he had brought there all had to do with the red star. Its appearance on the eastern horizon had his mind churning. What if.. what if.. oh Faranth what if. Everything he was reading seemed to indicate the return of thread. He was planning a trip up to the old Fort Weyr to get a look at the star stones he had read about. If the old records were accurate then it would be too soon to see the red star through it but he intended to keep an eye on it.
What I need is something to drink, he thought. He stacked the hides neatly on his desk and headed for the kitchen. He entered the hallway just as Apricus dropped her cup and roll. Noticing who was there he cleared his throat so Killian would know of his presence. Approaching the two he pulled out an old kerchief and bent to help Apricus clean the spill. "No sense crying over spilt klah." he said as he swirled the kerchief in the still warm liquid.

Killian bent down as the sound of something hitting the floor reached his sensitive ears, reaching out slowly with one hand he felt the warm klah on his fingertips and frowning pulled out his own hanker kef, “now I’m doubly sorry Miss.” He said beginning to sop up what klah he could feel. He was not looking at the mess or even at the girl but staring at a spot about a foot away from the spill but he continued to talk obviously to the girl. “I’m sorry Miss but I don’t recognize your voice…” but he was interrupted by someone else clearing their thought and then the familiar voice of Master Bartalan as he too came to help clean the spill.
His own hanker kef now wet to the point where Killian could not tell if he was cleaning the mess or just making it worse he stepped back and stood up, “Good day Master Bartalan,” he said smiling in the general direction of the man, but he frowned slightly still feeling guilty for startling the girl as he turned back to her. “May I refill that for you Miss? I was going into the kitchens for a drink myself and I do feel terrible for startling you.”

Apricus found her face turning a remarkable shade of red as not only the young man in front of her bend to clean her klah, but the Master known as Bartalan as well. Just as she managed to dig out her own handkerceif, the two had managed to clean it themselves. Letting out a bashful sigh, she stuffed it back in her pocket again and smiled.
Fumbling with her cup, she noticed the strange stare in the younger mans eyes and wondered silently at it. She hadn't seen anything like it and it was almost unnerving... Master Baralan's voice broke thru to her and she smiled at him, turning her gaze from the man. "No tears here sir." she said good naturedly.
Turning to the younger man she smiled again. "No, you may not refill my cup, but I'd be very happy to have you accompainy me to get some more." she said plesently. She liked to be self sufficent, and as it was the male gender made her just as uncomfortable as those strange eyes... In any case, she perfered to do things herself rather than letting them do it for her.

Killian bowed ever so slightly at the waist at her reaction, “understandable, in that case I would love to accompany you back into the kitchens though I was looking for a bit of a stronger drink for myself.” again his black blank eyes starred just over her shoulder, and though his voice was pleasant somewhere in the back of his head Killian couldn’t help but think that the girl did not want his help do to his handicap but he would not make that assumption right away.
Stepping away from the door to give the girl more room and so as not to trip her with his staff, Killian turned again to Master Bartalan, smiling as he stared unseeing into the mans face, “would you care to join us Master? For a small toast perhaps? You see today is my ten turn anniversary of being in the Harper Hall.” his smile was sincere but held a small hint of sadness. He really had mixed feelings about being in the Hall, if he had not been blinded he would never have come to the Harper hall…. But if he had not been blinded….what would his life have been like?

Apricus seen the young man take a step back, allowing her access to the door that she had just come out of. She took the cue knowingly and entered thru the doorway without argument. If it was one thing she'd learned at the craft hall, it was that the men here were obsessed with letting the ladies go thru first. She'd spent several hours once trying toargue with one young man that she was holding the door open for him (it only seemed polite to her at the time) but the stubborn fool would have none of it and she gave in in the end.
"A stronger drink?" she asked politely, curiousity mixed in her voice. Hearing it was his anniversery, she decided that such a thing would be worth a toast of sorts. She did a double take, however, when she heard the length of time. 'he's been her longer than I have... why havent' I seen him around before?' she wondered to herself. She had met a lot of faces since coming to the hall herself, but she would have remembered his if she has saw it she was sure.
((Haha. Yes. Serves me right for having two young women with an A name...*laughs*))

( Pssst E, didn't you mean Apricus? )
"I could do with a nice goblet of wine myself," Bartalan said. "After you Killian." he added. "Congratulations on 10 turns." he said as they entered the kitchen. Grabbing 3 goblets he headed to the wine rack. After a moment inspecting the bottles he grabbed a bottle of Benden Red. "This should do fine." he said.

((So sorry guys I assure you that you have not been forgotten I just haven’t had Internet for a wile but as school is starting again soon that should all be changing.))
Killian turned his head in the direction of the girl’s voice with the result being that he looked right through her eyes, seeming to stair into her very sole rather then the black abise that constantly engulfed him, “Yes, as much as I love klah I think I have had enough of that in the past three nights to last me an entire turn.” He smiled at her, “I don’t remember ever studying as much before as I have been this past weak.”
Turning momentarily away from the girl Killian nodded to Master Bartalan before stepping thought the door he waited a moment listening for the sound of the two’s foot steps amongst all the other nose before moving himself. It seemed as though the Master was going to the wine racks as his foot steps where coming from behind him where as the lighter girls steps where heading for the tables.
Following the girl Killian tried to place her voice to a name, not that he often talked to many of the people in the Hall he did manage to know most of their names but he couldn’t place this girls… “I’m sorry if I seem rude miss but might I have your name? I don’t recognize your voice.” Stopping at one of the quieter tables Killian reached out his hand to feel if there where three un occupied chairs there. Running his hand over the backs of the wooden chairs Killian pulled one out for the girl before finding one across from her to sit down in. “My name is Killian, Apprentice Harper of both voice and all manner of String instruments.”

When the young mans eyes turned into hers, a chill ran down her spine. It wasn't an unpleasent sensation, but it was one that caught her off guard. There was still something about his eyes that wasn't right...
Hearing his comment about the time taken to study, she could only find herself in agreement. Her own studies seemed to be taking up more and more of her time, yet with her passion, she'd have it no other way. Watching as the young man ran his hand over the back of the three empty chairs, Apricus nearly jumped with a realization.
The young man had never looked at the chairs yet it had seemed weird for him to walk around the table to feel each before pulling one out... And his eyes... Thats why they were so unnerving... He couldn't see... Apricus bit her lip as she was suddenly ashamed of herself for her slow realization.
Taking the seat offered she said thank you as she watched him take a seat of his own. Killian. She quietly repeated the name in her mind before outloud so she wouldn't forget it. "Its nice to meet you, Killian. My name is Apricus, Apprentence of Voice and History." she smiled. "And it isn't rude of you to ask at all. I was struggling to place your face with a name as well. I've been here just a little short of eight turns and I don't beleive I've managed to run into you yet."

((Well I was going to wait for Did but I have never been known for my patients… sorry Did))
Killian couldn’t help but smile as the girl said his name out loud and then proceeded to give him her own, “Apricus, what a beautiful name I’m sure I will remember it now that I have the pleasure of knowing it.” He leaned forward in his seat placing his elbows on the table and lacing his finders together. She really was a pleasant girl and though he could not see her she had and air of individuality about her, as though he preferred to take care of herself rather then be taken care of it was strange but appealing all at the same time.
“a fellow vocalist? That is wonderful we should try and sing a duet sometime, though I’m more keen on playing myself I love to sing.” Music and sound where all he really had anymore but in the long run he would have it no other way. His gray hair fell in feathery locks about his face framing his black unseeing eyes as his head moved slightly, he was really quite handsome to some people not that he noticed any of that, but he smiled charmingly at the girl. “I must say I am sorry that it has taken eight turns for us to run into each other but I’m sure we have plenty of time to catch up on what we have missed."

Bartalan took the seat next to Killian and began to fill the goblets with wine. Passing one to Apricus, he then set the other right in front of Killian. "It is straight out from you Killian," he said. "A fine vintage from a pressing of three turns back. Let us drink to ten turns shall we? Lifting his glass he sipped the wine as a wave of nostalgia swept over him. 39 turns he had been with the Harper Hall.

Apricus smiled as she heard Killian speak and found it obvious that he had a strong enough grasp of the language to color it brightly enough to make any woman’s heart melt. Apri thanked herself that she was no ordinary woman and would not fall for such things.
At the notion of a duet, Apri found several pieces already jumping to her head that would compliment the voice before her. Having been found out because of her voice, she had already been shown more pieces than a holder would ever hear and still they were asking her to try others.
“A duet would be wonderful.” she agreed, deciding that she wanted to hear him sing some time. His voice had a soothing tone to it. Hearing the notion of ‘catching up’, Apri found herself instantly thankful that Master Bartalan arrived as distraction. She wasn’t sure why, but those words always sent a shiver down her back.
Don’t fool yourself. she though as she picked up the glass. “Thank you Master.” she said taking a sip. You know very well why those words scare you. The liquid passed over her tongue and felt herself instantly relaxing. Setting down the glass, she gave herself a mental note to not drink too much of it while in company of others.

Killian smiled as he heard Bartalan approach their table and shuffle around with what must be the wine he had gotten for them. He listened as a cup was placed with a light ‘thunk’ on the wooden table right in front of him and then confirmed by the master’s words. “Thank you Master Bartalan.” He said reaching for the cup careful not to nock it over, “you know just how to make my life easier.” Raising it into the air Killian said quietly “to ten Turns of Songs and Life as it should be lead.” And he took a sip.
He set the goblet back down exactly where he had picked it up and ran his hand though his ash gray hair unbefitting to his mere 20 turns, and continued to smile savoring the flavor of the wine as it swam on his tong. “then a duet it is mi Lady, when ever you are ready, and since you are the vocal student, more so then I, I think you would be a much better judge on what song we should sing.” His smile was warm and it was evident that he looked forward to the event, “I must admit that I have never sang a duet before. Every time I was in a group or with another Harper I played while they sang.”
He reached out his had for his goblet again, a little faster then last time as now he knew exactly where it was in proportion to his body and arm length. Picking it back up he took the time to swirl it a few times, though he could not see how it ran around the goblet, and smelling it once took another small sip, as was the proper way to drink wine. Killian had a good head for wine and it took quite a bit to get him drunk but he had no intention of trying his luck this time.

Master Bartalan raised his glass again to Killian's toast and savored the aroma of the fine wine. Taking a drink he enjoyed the smoothness of this particular vintage.
"Have I missed something?" Bartalan asked, trying to pick up on the conversation he had missed. When he heard Killian state he had never sang a duet before an idea popped into his thoughts. "The Turns End Celebration is not that far away. I will arrange for the two of you to sing your duet for the gathering." he said with a smile.
He knew that neither of them had performed much at social gathers and this would test their confidence.
