Apri smiled at the grey-haired man’s toast. She agreed with his statement, here at the Hall you really could live life in complete happiness, even if her time was spent studying, at least she felt useful here.
Raising her eyebrows as he said that she should pick the song, she let her mind run thru the mental list again, pausing when she heard that he played more than he sang. Remembering that he had mentioned string instruments, her curiosity got the better of her. “And what string instrument do you enjoy the best, if you don’t mind my asking.”
Hearing the Master’s sudden statement of singing at the upcoming gather, Apri’s cheeks turned a quick rose color as she looked at him surprised. “But… Gathers are for the performance of Journeymen and women and the Masters, such as yourself…” While Apri felt that what she heard of Killian’s voice spoke true of its abilities, she was not exactly sure that she liked the idea of standing in front of so many people, even if someone would be at her side.

Killian hid his smile behind his glass of wine and waited to hear Apricus reaction to the masters suggestion before replying himself. “Oh I think that would be a wonderful opportunity for Apricus and I, don’t you agree Mi’lady?” he took another sip and set his goblet back done again, “how else is an Apprentice supposed to walk the tables with out proving there talent?” he nodded at Master Bartalan in thanks, “thank you for the offer Master, but don’t you think you should here us before putting in any words?”
He turned back to Apricus and staring unseeing in her general direction answered her question. “As for my instruments I play the Violin and the Guitar the most but the viola and bass are good as well.”

Bartalan gave a light laugh at Apri's surprise. "Dear lass, you have been here quite long enough to begin helping with the entertainment at gathers. You will not be apprentices forever." He said with a look that indicated he knew something that he would not speak anymore of that evening.
"I am quite aware of your singing abilities and it will be up to the two of you to practice your duet. May I suggest you start rehearsals soon?" He said as he lifted his goblet and sipped quietly, waiting for their reactions. He had no intention of allowing them an out when what they needed was a test of their confidence.
Finishing his drink he reached for the winebag and refilled his goblet, offering to refill both Apri's and Killians glasses.

Hearing Killian speak in approval, Apri’s mouth dropped open as she looked into his distant eyes. Hearing his argument for it, she closed her mouth with a click and turned back to the master. The masters praise brought a blush to her cheeks and she found herself cornered.
“Ah well… I guess we could come up with something…” she said looking back and forth between both men. Sighing she put an elbow on the table and propped her head up in her raised palm. Seeing the Master’s offer of wine she waved her free hand.
“No thanks master. I’m not much of a drinker.” she said before looking back to into those distant black orbs that still gazed thru her. Holding back a shiver, she smiled. “Well I can think of a few songs that might work for your voice if you think you can manage a guitar as well…” She found herself blushing again but continued anyways, “I’m afraid I haven’t had the time to pick up a string due to my studies on history…”
She gave a quick glance toward the master in hopes that she wasn’t in the wrong for being a little slow for picking up an instrument. She was confident in all of her studies, yet for some reason had always been hesitant in choosing an instrument. Her persuasive speech wasn’t doing too well either.

Killian nodded to the master, not about to argue with him. Killian had enough confidence in his abilities to sing and play, but would an audience like it? And how would he react to an audience? He was used to playing in a place of silent listening not a busy noisy gather. But now he was just arguing with what he had just told Apricus.
He nodded again at Master Bartalan’s offer of wine, lifting his glass and delicately placing a finger over the brim to feel how full it was. He would stop the older man with a wave of his other hand when the wine reached the top of his fingernail.
Paying close attention to the wine Killian still listened intently to Apricus as she spoke and smiling very charmingly tried to reassure her. “I’m sure I could play and sing at the same time, assuming I have time to practice.” feeling the wine hit the right place Killian waved politely at the Master and took a sip before setting his goblet back down and wiping his finger on another handkerchief.
“Do you know if you want to ‘pick up a string’ as you say or would you rather try a wood wind?” he was very interested in such things and lacing his hands together again rested them on the table.

Master Bartalan finished pouring and sipped slowly as his thoughts drifted off. His heart was heavy with worries and he just couldn't seem to find any answers.

((OoC: No worries Did.))
Apricus was pleased to hear that Killian could, in fact, play and sing at the same time. Of course they’d have time to practice, Apri wouldn’t have it any other way. A few songs in mind now, she found herself a little more ready for the idea of performance. Not by much, mind you, but a little more now that she had music in her head.
Hearing the question posed to her, she pursed her lips in thought for a moment before answering with a smile. “Well I love to sing and it would be a little difficult to do with an instrument at my lips, now wouldn’t it? I’m thinking a string would be a more suitable instrument for me.” A slight pause followed as she glanced over at the Master. Seeing him lost in thought she continued, “I wouldn’t mind learning guitar I think. It has a wonderful sound to it.”

Killian sipped his wine but had to set it down quickly as he laughed softly at Apricu’s comment of sinning and playing a wood wind at the same time. “I must agree that would be quite difficult, though if you managed it… well I not sure what I would do.” The apprentice Harper turned his head toward the Master Harper, not likening the man’s silence or the troubled aura around him. “What do you think Master?”
Killian smiled warmly, innocently at the man, not sure if he wanted the master to explain what was on his mind or not. He would not push him either way and smoothly turned back to the young lady. “Guitar you say? Hmm,” Killian made a show of thinking placing his hand on his chin and rubbing his clean shaven face, “I think I know a few good songs I can start you out on if you would like some help with your study’s.”
