In the far right corner of the commons area are three long tables that seat 20 students each. Each student is responsible for bringing their writing materials for each class, whether it be slates or hides.
Chalbys class lesson:
Weyrling Master Kathrein stood at the head of the table. Behind her pinned to a cork board was a herdbeast hide with a very detailed map of the Southern Continent drawn on it. "This week we will be studying terrain recognition. Today I want each of you to draw this map and lable it. Tomorow we will go over the locations and answer any questions you might have." she said. "The Assistant Weyrling Master will be on hand to see to any troubles." she added, with a look toward the 2 green riders that always seemed to get into mischief. With that said she went to the next table to assign Bellorai class assignments.

Cayana sniffed imperiously. Now whyever did Kathrein look at her, asuming she would be the trouble? Then again, thinking about recent evnts, maybe she was rightly worried. The blonde haired girl looked the image of attention and obediance until Kathrein moved on to the next table. Cayana could care less about the assistant Weyrling Master.
She turned with a flash of white teeth to her best friend, another Green rider, Yora, and gave her a knowing wink. Her friend nodded back. They both stood up and headed to the nearest blue or brown rider and tapped them on the shoulder, "Excuse me...but i hurt my hand collecting those thistly plants yesterday, and i don't think I can use it." She gave a tentative, innoccent looking smile.
It was then replaced by a slightly quivering lip, "An-And Weyrlinagmaster Kathrein will get so mad if I can't do this assignment. I-I think she really hates me. Oh please help me...wha-what do I dooo?" She proceded to bury her long, silky, hair-covered head in the poor, unsuspecting Weyrling's shoulder. Now who could resist a beautiful girl in distress, crying their hearts out on them.

M'nel jumped in his seat when two greenriders approached. For a second he thought it was the Weyrlingmaster who was going to reprimand him for staring at the girl on the opposite side of the room. He waved to the greenrider on the other side of the room and gave her his charming smile that made girls swoon. Ah, yes, life as a dragonrider would indeed be fun. He turned his attention to the two girls standing over him as he slouched back in his seat and gazed up at them. Well, in order to get to their face, he couldn't help but scan the rest of their bodies first. From legs to hips to waist to breasts to face. Yup, he approved them both. Now to move on to what it was they wanted...maybe it was the same thing he was thinking of...
He turned on his charming smile to each of the girls before his manly, but soft voice floated from his lips. "How may I help you lovely ladies?" It probably wouldn't help them escape the work since he was just as good a flirt as they were. They looked around his age, maybe younger. At her request, his sapphire eyes locked onto her hands. Aw, hurt, were they? She continued her story and he nodded. "I see." She wanted him to do the work for her. Well, he wouldn't do the work himself, so how was he going to do it for them? No matter, he had a perfect plan already prepared in his head. "Does it hurt right now?" His body slid as far as it could go on the seat with him still being able to sit properly on it as he spoke.
His hand reached out and took one of her hands in his and held onto the wrist in case she planned on pulling away. His other hand slowly traced lines over her palm so lightly they were barely touching. Sapphire blue eyes looked up into hers as he smiled again. "How does this feel?" If her hands really did hurt, then this should make it feel a little better. If not, then his fingers running across her palm should tingle a bit and feel good as well. Either way, he was hitting on her. Shaking back his black locks from his face, he continued to stroke her palm and smile at her until she gave him some sort of response. If she didn't like it, well there was always the girl behind her...
---------------------------------------------
S'mar rolled his eyes when he saw the two troublemaking girls walk over to the troublemaking boy. Well that was good for them. He didn't give a shard about them, although when M'nel waved over in his direction, it had startled him enough that it took him a moment to realize it was to the girl sitting on the other side of him. His brownish-gold eyes switched to the girl on his left. He sighed. No matter what he did he just couldn't understand the people around him. it was just better not to talk to anyone. His fingers ran through his blonde tendrils as he stared at the map on the board. Did he really want to draw that? No, he didn't. Who did?
Instead, he leaned back in his seat and glared at the map. Maybe if he glared at it enough, it would fall off the wall and disappear between. Unlikely, but the thought made him a bit happier than a moment before. The bronze weyrling sighed and relaxed in his seat.
((sorry, i had to change his name because i just realized his name is already in use by an older rider x.x)

Kathrein dismissed Ardere class to go get their harnesses and meet in the Weyrbowl. As she turned to Bellorai's table to collect her harness she noticed Cayana and Yora were out of their seats and flirting again. If that wasn't bad enough they had picked M'nel of all people. She really wasn't sure who was the biggest flirt but she was going to put a stop to this right now.
Since they only had eyes for one another Kathrein walked quietly up behind them. She stood for a moment as M'nel caressed Cayana's hand. "I recommend you start caressing that hide with your charcoal stick right now M'nel." she said in a stern voice. "Cayana, Yora return to your seat immediately and begin your assignment. Do not get out of your seat until you are finished and excused." She cast a glance down the table. Most of the students were busy with the assignment with the exception of S'mon. She cleared her throat loudly. That should get him going she thought.
She had an angry glare for the Assistant WM. "M'ron, the class is to stay seated until every one of the students complete their assignments. If one slacks off the others will just have to wait. That should be an effective way to forestall much slacking. If you need me then have Laroth bespeak Tath." she said in a voice loud enough for all of the Weyrlings to hear. She then turned and headed for the Weyrbowl.
M'ron sighed heavily. His blue Laroth was sunning in the bowl and detected his sadness. He reached out to his rider. Mine, why are you sighing? Is the class unusually troublesome today? No Lorath, I just made a mistake. I should have put those two back in their seats when they first got up. It will be fine. he reassured his dragon. He just hoped there wouldn't be anymore trouble.

R'kul watched as the greenrider looked for and found her target. He shook his shaggy brown head, and bent it to the task at hand. He began to trace out the map, not real well, as he was no artist, but it was just recognizable. At least the outline was, so far, he thought. He paid no attention to M'nel and Cayana, and was absorbed in his task, until the WM came back over. He nearly jumped out of his skin when she spoke, looking around quickly, and grabbing the scrubber to erase the mark his chalk had made when he jumped. He glanced around, and put his head back down to complete his task. He was a little slow at drawing, and would need all the time he could get.
Rimgath blinked sleepily up on the sunning rocks, as his rider's mind bent in concentration on the Southern coastline. So that's what it looks like? he asked in a sleepy voice, although in the classroom R'kul alsmost dropped his chalk. He still wasn't quite used to the intimacy he and the brown shared, and it usually startled him when unlooked for comments came into head. He looked around, noticed a greenrider staring at him, and he blushed to the roots of his hair, tearing his eyes back down to the hide in front of him. Yes, Rimgath, that is the coastline. I'm afraid my copy isn't much like the real map, though. He sighed, and bent chalk hand again to the task.

Vinydea was idly twiddling her thumbs, hunched over as she payed attention to Kthrein without vigor. She had been chatting with Chanith, but now the Green had fallen asleep. Pouting, Vinydea grapsed a piece of hide, pulling it close then glaring at it. She wanted to ask for a writing utensil, but the two on her left were having a very heated conversation--a very pretty girl and a boy Vinydea was attracted to.
Instead of innterupting them, the shy girl looked to her left. There was a sleeping Weyrling. Sighing, Vinydea stood and reached for a charcoal stick. As soon as she grabbed it she sat back down and glared at it along with her hide.

"Oh yes," Cayana giggled, "It hurts ever so much." She said, but her eyes glinted wit hthe pleasure she was feeling. this boy obviously new what he was doing, she appreciated that. She sat down softly on his lap, looking back at him with a soft wink. Yora, not wanting to be left out, went up to the young Weyrling as well, "Oh my hand hurts to!" She held it out expectantly. Cayana gave her a disgusted look. She always copied her, and certainly wasn't the brightest of the bunch. while no one would ever say that Cayana wasn't smart, Yora was a dimglow. "Ignore her," He whispered in the boys ear.
"So whats your name?" She asked playfully, "Mine is Cayana." She looked up startled as she saw Kathrein hovering behind her. Oh shells and shards! She agreed only reluctantly, "Yes, Weyrlingmaster." She motioned for Yora to follow her as they returned to their seats. The pair grudgeingly began the assignement. She leaned back slightly, so she could see M'nel and mouthed out, "See you later," with one of her trademark smiling winks. She noticed Yora was about to do the same and pinched her hard on the amr. "Idiot," She mouthed under her breath. Yora began the task again, still unaware of her own stupidity.

M'nel's grin grew wider with hers, his hand still stroking her hand delicately and with a finesse of one who knew exactly what he was doing. As she sat on his lap, the weyrling let go of her hand and instead wrapped his arms carefully around her waist. They quickly, and yet so smoothly pulled her closer up against his chest and gave her a slight wink with his sapphire eyes on her the entire time. M'nel kept the arm that supported her waist in the back stay there, but the other slid from her waist. The hand started at her hip, and softly let his hand slide down the entire length of her leg to her knee. "I would be honored to make it feel better." He picked up the hand he had been holding previously and gave it a soft peck of the lips that lingered just a moment longer than what was appropriate. Yora spoke then, reminding M'nel there was another female to attend to.
He didn't want the Weyrlingmaster to see that he didn't shared, afterall. M'nel's deep blue eyes fixated on Yora as he offered the same charming smile. "Yours too?" His hand moved towards her when Cayana whispered softly in his ear. He dropped the hand and gave her a playful wink. "Don't worry, I just think it would be wrong to leave her out." M'nel quickly added in a low voice for only Cayana to hear. "Maybe just you and me can get together later." He smiled and then turned back to Yora, who was still pretending her hand hurt. With only one hand to help her out, since the other was still around Cayana's waist, it was harder to accomplish, but with her hand in his with his thumb rotating in small and soft circles on her palm, he mastered one-handed hand comforts, if that made any sense.
He looked back to Cayana as she spoke. "M'nel." She offered her name in return, and his charming smile stretched on his face while his second hand returned to around her waist. "That sounds like the most beautiful name I have ever heard of, Cayana." Before he could go on, the Weyrlingmaster inturrupted. He nodded and let Cayana go, although not without giving her hand a small squeeze. Yora followed the other girl like her own little pet, and M'nel had to smile. A very interesting pair, especially Cayana. Luckily he had been looking their way, because he caught the girl's words she mouthed to him. He nodded and grinned, then picked up a charcoal stick. The map was certainly less important in his mind at the moment, but the sooner it was done, the sooner he would get out.
His hands worked quickly on the hide as small shapes with labels became the world of Pern. Every once in awhile, he would look up and back to Cayana where he would smile again. Looking to the far right, he noticed a girl glaring at her hide and just sitting there. What was her name again? No, he didn't remember. The only name he knew so far was Cayana. The rest of the room was full of those he hadn't quite gotten personal enough with to receive their names. He shrugged, sure that soon they would be introduced and he could see what he could do then. If the Weyrlingmaster wasn't so picky about people standing up, he would have walked over there. But if she hadn't cared, Cayana would still be on his lap. His fingers brushed through his black locks and sighed. Just finish the map and try to sneak a note to Cayana on when and where they could meet...
-----------------------------------------------------
S'mar didn't even jump as the Weyrlingmaster cleared her throat. He hadn't even realized that it was for him until he looked up to see who it was for and he found her glaring directly at him. He quickly sat up in his seat and looked at the map. She couldn't really be serious. This was completely boring, for lack of better words to describe it. The weyrling started to sketch the map, although most who saw it would never even guess it was a map. He wasn't too good in the drawing area, or singing, or fishing, or anything other than taking care of His. It was probably a good thing that he Impressed, or he would have been a good-for-nothing man that just wandered throughout Pern. Maybe a trader wouldn't be too bad..
He finished at much too fast a time that he looked at it again to compare it with the map on the wall. It was no masterpiece, but in his mind it was pretty good. Which meant it was not even close to acceptable by the Weyrlingmaster. He grabbed a new hide and started over, this time trying a new technique. Thinking about drawing it and concentrating at the same time. It was not hard for him to do, unless it had to do with Weyrling Training. Which was probably why he was having trouble finishing this small map. He sighed. They still had plenty of Weyrling Training left, so he needed to get over the fact that their training didn't revolve around the dragons. S'mar looked around the room and saw that flirting weyrling guy continue to look at the two greenriders. Or was it just one? Not that it mattered to him. Girls were just annoying with all of their complaining. He would know, with three younger sisters. S'mar returned to his hide, slowly outlining the terrain in a much neater way than before.

Tonra had been watching the flirting of Cayanan and M'nel go on from her seat. She frankly thought them stupid to be trying to gte away with flirting in class. She already had the outline and a few of the Weyrholds neatly scetched onto her own hide.
Tonra wasn't one for flirting, she thought it a waste of time when you could be doing someting productive. Like classworkShe thought angrely as she glared at the sleeping Weyrling sitting only two seats from her. Tonra looked around the class and smirked at the three Weyrlings who had been flirting, feeling slightly better that the Weyrlingmaster had finally noticed them. She hated slackers, that included people who sleep and flirt in class while she's trying to be a good student and learn. She sighed and continued lableing her hide.

R'kul scratched his head for a moment, as he tried to figure out why he couldn't get the coastline just right. He sighed heavily, and happened to glance up. His eyes widened slightly when he saw that flirty greenrider actually sit down on M'nel's lap. Some guys had all the luck. He watched the action, as even Yora got in on it, following Cayana's lead as usual. Would that girl never show her own initiative? He chuckled when the pair was glared at by Tonra and another greenrider he could never remeber the name of. Normally he'd ask Rimgath, but he could feel the brown's sleeping mind even now. Sometimes it really creeped him out, being so close to anoher living being. But he wouldn't trade his chosen for anyone or anything. He drifted off a moment, in daydreaming reverie, as he remember Rim's Hatching.....<sigh> ((ooc:shouldnt everyone know each other pretty well by now? They've been in the same class for months and there's not that many of them....just wondering.. ))

Yuri, watched the Weyrling Master with complete attention but she could not help but smirk as the other brown rider gave the assignment, What is it love? Her brown asked sleepily, the Master wants me to draw a sketch of the southern continent, the brown merely snorted in amused understanding before curling back up to rest in the sun. Yuri continued to smirk and shake her head at the irony as she reached for a large peace of hid and a sharp stick. She twirled the charcoal stick a few times between her nimble fingers before placing it against the hid.
The map was done before the Weyrling master even looked back over at their class, more then that she was adding in all of the little details including light shadowing on the mountain ranges and forests, drawing the holds with as much detail as the size of the charcoal would allow. Finally satisfied with the map drawn in even more detail the original, Yuri looked up in time to see the two most flirtations girls walking back to their seats.
Arching one eyebrow in puzzlement she leaned over to the bronze rider sitting beside her “hey S’mar, what did I miss?” she stopped however looking down at is progress so fare, she had to tilt her head a few times before she could figure out exactly what he was drawing before she pushed her own map a little closer to him, “hear, maybe it will help if it’s closer and not on a wall.” Yuri took a quick scan of the rest of her wing mates before shaking her head again, it seemed as though a few of them where skilled with a bit of hid and a pen but over all most where not having a very good time.
Shrugging her shoulders the brown rider leaned her chare back, balancing it on only two legs, and placed her booted feet on the table before pulling out her own pack of bound parchment and a thinner peace of charcoal for her own personal use. She then lifted one knee to use as a table and flipping though a few pages again put charcoal to paper…

S'mar looked over at Yuri and watched her for a moment. "Yuri, right?" It had been eight months, but he didn't always pay attention enough to remember everyone's name. But he had remembered hers, for whatever reason that might be. It could be because she Impressed a brown, which was interesting for a girl. That was not common, but it did happen. S'mar looked over at the boy and girls still flirting while they were back in their seats. "M'nel over there was flirting with the two greenriders, or visa versa, I don't know which. Anyway, the Weyrlingmaster told them to sit, and their still going at it while in their seats."
He noticed her trying to understand his map and sighed. Okay, okay, he wasn't a good artist. But at least pretend it looked good. And then she pushed her map over next to his. He stared at it blankly. He didn't have vision problelms. S'mar could see it just as fine on the board, but he just couldn't copy it for his life. "No, it's okay. I can see it on the board just fine. I'm just not a great artist." He scrutinized his work, seeing again how it looked more like a deformed bubbly pie than anything else.
The bronze weyrling chose a new hide, annoyed at himself for taking so long. He hadn't brought that many hides, so there were only two or three left. If he didn't get this map finished by this next hide, there was a guarantee he would have to go back to the barracks to grab a few more hides. His charcoal stick was getting pretty short as well. He should have enough of those though. Giving one last look around the room, S'mar finally returned to his work, while every once in a while he sneaked a peek of Yuri's hide.

M'ron sighed again as he walked around the table. He reached the sleeping Weyrling and tapped her on the shoulder. With a startled jump she woke and began to appologise profusely. Taking up her charcoal stick she began drawing the map.
The chatter from the other table as the riders and weyrlings of Bellorai class discussed the how to's of cleaning riding harnesses was minimal, and shouldn't interfere with this lesson. M'ron walked past each student drawing. He noticed some of the students were having a little trouble. It seemed to be more of a lack of interest than a lack of ability in some cases. He began talking as he continued to walk around.
"I know that some of you might find this assignment a little boring but the importance of terrain recognition can not be understated" he began. When flying straight, you must know where to go and how to get there. In flying between it can make the difference between life and death." He paused here to let that sink in. "Drawing a map teaches you the proper direction and location of places you will one day fly to. You will be able to remember it better if you draw it yourself than if you are just told." he finished.
He continued to over see their work, approval or advice as needed. "Good work there, Tonra. Good eye for detail there Yuri. It's really coming along R'kul. S'mar, try picturing the map in your head as if you were giving Lormyth directions, then put it on the hide. It might help. M'nel, pay attention to your work, not Cayana. Cayana, Yora, and Vindyea you need to get started or you will end up making the entire class off schedule."

Yuri merely shrugged at the bronze rider as he started over yet again, she watched him for a little wile before moving her gaze over the other students in her wing. She looked up as the assistant Master walked by and offered her a complement on her detail she smiled in thanks but said nothing as she watched him continue his rounds.
Still leaning back in her chair she made her decision and began to draw again choosing one of her fellow brown rider who was poring over his hide with much concentration. This was her only real talent as fare as she was concerned, sure she was a fare fighter and hunter but over all she was the best at drawing, there was nothing she could not capture on parchment, no emotion no hidden desire nothing could hide from her charcoal stick.
When she was finished with the boy, depicting his concentration effortlessly she moved on to his neighbor a girl green rider by the name of Tonra who too was working hard as usual though she seemed to be further along with her map then her neighbor.

Cayana smiled sweetly at her new "friend." She couldn'y wait until this boring excersize was over so she could go and hang out a bit with him. She drew a small part of the terrain map...but stopped quickly. This was just too boring. She sat back in her chair and studied the girls in her class. There was Tonra...whom she disliked. The girl was too studious. There was Yuri...whom she disliked. What was it with female Brown riders. Kathrein was enough. And then there was Yora, her best friend... whom she detested. Something about being a sharding deadglow.
She leaned back farhter in her chair, closing her lids over violety blue eyes. She began to daydream about her first flight. What self respecting greenrider wouldn't. Neineth hd matured quickly and would no doubt be the first one to rise. She jerked forward in her seet sharply at a sharp pinch on her arm. "Yora!" She spat venemously. All the serebne bauty that had rcently filled her face was rplaced by fury. "Don't ever do that." And she smacked the gril on the back of the head. She began to draw again fevorishly, with dark, grinding styrokes that indented her hide. her eyes flashed almost savagly. Even the smallest thing could set her off the wall.
