M'nel sketched the map of the southern continent in record time, although there was good reason for that. It was very sloppily done, but the sooner he finished, the sooner class would end. He ignored M'ron as he came by, clearly uninterested in what he had to say. But with the greenriders all still working on their hides, he sighed and began again. This time he put more time and effort into it. It felt like forever since he looked up at anyone or anything besides the map on the wall, but his sketch was very much improved from his last one. His sapphire blue eyes scrutinized it carefully, then he smiled and leaned back to relax. It wasn't exactly what was on the wall, but he had to say he did a sharding good imitation.
The weyrling looked up and around at the others, who were busily working on their hides. One girl, Yuri, had already finished and was busily looking around the room as he was. M'nel tried to catch her eye and give her his charming smile, but she was immediately asked for assistance on her neighbor's map. He frowned at his bad luck, but it turned right back into a smile as he turned his gaze to Vindyea. As he reached Tonra, he tried a smile, but there was no charm to it. He knew she probably disliked him with all the looks he got during class. She was a hard worker, and M'nel obviously was not. He returned to Cayana, who was busy looking at the other females in the class as well. He offered another charming grin and then relaxed in his seat to await the end of class.
-----------------------------------------------
S'mar glared up at M'ron. He did not need his help. He just needed someone to get him out of this class. The weyrling started again, although this time he actually did listen to what M'ron had been saying. The end result was much better, even though he would never admit that it was thanks to the Assistant Weyrling Master, no way. He would just say that it all came to him right then, or something like that. The bronzerider stared down at the hide and waited for the Weyrlingmaster to either assign something new or for class to end. He sighed and glanced over at Yuri, busy helping another classmate. Well at least she knew what she was doing...

C'tan had his head bent over his map, doing his best to put all the names into his memory. He had heard many of them spoken of as he waited on tables filled with Riders, but now it mattered. Now he would be going there someday, with Terrenth.
He felt Terrenth's interest stir, so he tried to imagine the two of them flying along the coast, flying over the grasslands and going between.
See, my job is to learn all about these places so that we can go there when you are fully grown he told the curious bronze.
From those lines you learn this? Terrenth wasn't sure he believed this.
Its the start of learning. If i do this enough times, I'll be ready when you are. C'tan had heard enough complaining change to seriousness at the Weyrling tables as they reached the stage where they actually started to go places. He was going to take this seriously now and save the goofing off for things that didn't matter so much. Like peeling roots or making sure his sheets were completely squared off..

Tonra blushed at M'ron's compliment and felt a small glow of pride run through her. She always loved getting reconized for her hard work, and she was a hard worker unlike some of her classmates. Tonra had just finisghed lanbling her map and was checking to make sure she had everything on it like the map on the board when she noticed M'nel smiling at her.
He turned his head befroe he could see Tonra sniff at him and give him a look that clearly said 'don't even try with me'. Tonra didn't have time for lazy people, or for any person/people at all. She was to busy with Hialth.
With a nod and abrief smile Tonra was happy to see she hadn't forgotten any Weyrholds. Her map was readable, and far fom perfect, asTonra had no artistic ability what-so ever. Placing her hides in a neat pile, Tonra waited until the class ended. Daydreaming as she sat staring into space.

R'kul liked the low profile he kept in his classes. The others rarely bothered him, and as he was about the oldest weyrling in the class, that was fine by him. The others seemed so concerned with themselves, almost childish in their machinations against authority. He didn't have too much of a problem with it, though the Weyrlingmaster got on his nerves as much as any one else when she was being overbearing. He knew she had reasons, having been raised in the Weyr, and he knew why, but it still got old.
He shruged his shoulders, loosening the muscles tensed from drawing. He rolled his neck to relieve the stress, cracking quietly as he rolled it. Putting his charcoal down, he studied his copy of the map. Not great. Readable perhaps, accurate to a T, but not great. He would be happy when they could actually go the places they would need to know, and see them first hand. Being on wing was so much better than trying to imagine the land from a roughly drawn hide. He glanced around, as he rubbed his drawing hand, just in time to see the glares some of the girls were giving each other. He wondered what caused that, until he realized it was the same pair that had been flirting out of their seats a while ago. Who the heck raised children like these? It seemed every year the Weyr was saddled with spoiled daughters or lazy boys. He tossed a black look at the sleeping lad, knowing for a fact that he'd been into a wineskin the night before, late. Some blueriders were so immature, but the greenriders were worse, in general. He wasn't sure if he even wanted Rimgath to try to fly any of those in his class. Oh, they wer pretty enough, but so immature, looking down from his superior turns of 18, and the last six of those as a smith apprentice.
He sighed, and raised his hand, calling attention from Kathrein. "Weyrlingmaster, please check my work." He said in a respectful, if tired, tone. "You know I'm not much of an artist, ma'am."

Vinydea had finally finished a small corner of her map when another Rider, probably the only one mature enough to not be flirting, held up his hand. Vinydea flushed a bit, but continued just as carefully, being precise if not totally detailed. She felt wierd. Like the oldest one forced into a class of youngsters. Shaking the notion from her with a petite wriggle of her hand, she shook her head, pulling out the tong tying it back deftly.
She didn't try to look nice, but her wavy, golden brown hair shook gaily, and she did indeed look nice. Niavely she bent back over her hide and finished the coastline, adding little waves, a icon for the great, salty oceans. Shuddering at the thought of water, Vinydea wondered if Chanith would want to swim. The girl would sit near waters for her Dragon, but wouldn't dare get in. She usually sat on a ledge overhanging deep waters to be near her ever-growing Dragonet.
Finally she was done, but being she she just slightly raised her hand, not really raising it high enough to be noticed but hopefully the Weyrling Master would notice. Hopefully.

As much as Cayana hated to admit it, Yora was awonderful artist. The girl had already finished her map and was raising her hand for Kathrein to check it. The other girl swatted it down quickly. She knew what to do, "Hey Yora, look at mine." She had pruposefully drawn it horribly. "Oh no Cayana that just won't do," Yora simpered. She grabbed Cayana's map and in a matter of seconds had made it a very presentable peice. Excellent! Cayana thought, Yora was just stupid enough to do all of her work. Cayana now raised her hand high, "Oh Katherein...i'm done. Come check it." She said regally, with not a please in her sentence.

(Thanks Rayne, fixed it.)
M'ron watched as the class finished drawing. He knew that some of the weyrlings weren't trying too hard but at least they did it. "I want every one of you to study your maps. We will have a test tomorrow." he said. "Class dismissed" he said. Make sure you report for your assigned chores." he added

(psst, didster, i think you meant m'ron. lol ) M'nel didn't even look at his map as the class was dismissed. At last! He stood, folding his hides and charcoal sticks to dump into his satchel and flung it over his back. Most of the class began to file out, but he waited an extra moment before striding to the door. Pretending he forgot about the greenrider, he casually started to leave the classroom. In reality, his sapphire eyes were searching for Cayana from across the room, and then staring off ahead as if he was actually thinking about something other than those of the female gender. Riight. -------------------------------- S'mar didn't even fold any of his materials together before her jumped up to leave. His arm swept across the table to pin his working tools and map against his side before he began to jog out of class. The sooner he was out of class, the more time he would have until chores. They barely had any time at all. Maybe a candlemark or so before he had to start his chores. What were they today? It was either stable-cleaning or kitchen duty. He had latrines tomorrow. His nose wrinkled in displeasure at the thought. Well, better to spend his free time with His rather than waste it walking to the Weyrhall or something to socialize. Really. He wasn't the social-type. As long as he had his bonded, he was has happy as he would ever get. ((blah, way too short...not much I can think of for leaving the class though))

Vinydea looked at her map with a sigh. So she wouldn't get praised or anything. So what? With another groan, she pciked up her map carefully and carried it in her hands, letting her thumbs slide across the smooth pages and her fingers trace delicate lines filled with intricate deigns, following the shorelines ever so carefully. Chanith was asleep, atleast. Vinydea didn't have to explain her dissapointment to her. Hopefully she'd forget about it by the time Chanith awoke. She really did wish someone would praise her work, even if it wasn't the best.

R'kul frowned for a moment, then shrugged in his nonchalant fashion. He knew he'd done a decent job on it, and it was he who would have to learn from it, after all. Why should it matter if the AWM praised them or not? Obviously it did, to judge by the looks on some of the other's faces. He smiled slightly, thinking...what children some of these are. Will they be ready? Will I be ready? when that fateful day comes...all too soon. Thread would once again threaten their very lives. Excitement and trepidation filled him as he thought about the stuff portrayed in song and legend. He shuddered, and stood up, carefully rolling his new map so as to not get the charcoal smeared. He'd have to do a few fine touches, and swing by the records office for some setting spray. He was actually a little proud of it, and intended to hang it on his barracks wall. Why not, after all, nothing else hung there at the moment. He gathered his materiels. and left without a backward glance, mind already on the chores ahead.

Cayana stood up slowly, taking time to brush the wrinkles out of her skirt and toss up her hair. She pulled Yora up by the arm before whispering harshly in her ear, "Ok now...i have M'nel. You can hang around with us but he's mine." She pulled away with a sugary smile and sauntered off. She left her mess of course. Someone else could clean it up. She walked pruposefulyl towards M'nel, her hips swaying toher gate. She walked up and slipped her arm throguh is nonchalantly before looking up and smiling at him. He had stunning eyes. "Hey M'nel. Glad that task was over. It was so boring, don't you think?" Most boys just nodded along stupidly to anything she said. She hoped M'nel would be a little less braindead.
She twirled a lock of hair in her long slim fingers smiling flirtatiously, "So what were you planning on doing now. I hope you aren't actually going to chores." It was a rare day that Cayana actually did her duties. Yora mimicked her earnestly, "Oh yah...chores ar so...so stupid!" The girl flipped her much less magnificant brown hair over her shoulder, trying to copy Cayana but having none of the flare. Cayana leaned in closer to the other Weyrling, whispering in his hair, "Remember what i told you before? Just ignore her."

C'tan put everything into his pack except his slate. that would be propped aginst the wall where he could see it in their room. Terrenth was now sound asleep, he should have a little time to study it as he finished cleaning up their room. He had to have it learned by the evening meal or he was in trouble. Terrenth expected his attention in the evening and did not understand why he shouldn't have it.
He hadn't expected his biggest problem in studying would be a demanding dragon. He was either going to have to get quicker at memorizing things or he'd be joining j'zyn's late night studying. He didn't want to give up his candlemark of leaning against Terrenth and talking to him.

Chanith had awoken. With a little exasperated sigh, Vinydea stopped in her tracks, walked slightly to the side of the room and hall, and explained what had happened, why she was a bit dissapointed, but then assured Chanith that it was absolutly nothing.
When Vinydea finally looked back up, she saw much more then she had ever, ever wanted to see. Trying not to laugh, she saw that horrible Yora imitating Cayana. Cayana wasn't so bad, but Yora was absolutly horrible. Vinydea could not stand her, even though Yora was basically a copy of Cayana. Vinydea was wondering how Yora Impressed at all when she absently leaned againist the wall, deciding to see what M'nel, who wasn't that bad anyway, would do in reply to horrible Yora and alright-but-I'm-not-sure-about-since-I-don't-really-know-her Cayana.

M'nel's lips curled up in a smile as Cayana's arm slipped through his. Exactly as he had planned it. He wasn't as happy when Yora started to tag along with Cayana, but he had to say, the more, the merrier! Even if Yora was a complete dimglow, she was female. Any of the girls in the class were fine for him, although at the moment Cayana was the first to come on this strongly to him and he jumped at the chance to follow it through. She started on about the class, and he had to chuckle in response. "Aw, come on, you have to give me some credit. Although the map was boring, sitting on my lap must have been an experience to remember." He grinned, making his deep blue eyes sparkle with mischeif.
They began to leave the classroom, walking away as one of the last few left. Vindyea was leaning against the wall, as if waiting for something, but for what he didn't know. His charming smile fixed on her for a moment as he gave a brief nod, before he turned to Cayana. Yora mimicked the other greenrider, making M'nel sigh mentally. He had a perfectly good answer to Cayana's inquiry and she just had to ruin the moment. Ah, well, he could just use it anyway. "Chores? Well, I was hoping you wouldn't think that joining me in the dining hall for some lunch would be considered chores. It sounds better if we say that we are both enjoying ourselves. Maybe I could make it a bit more interesting while we are there?"
He smiled mischeviously to Cayana. But how was he supposed to respond to Yora? "What chores do you have today, Yora?" Cayana's whisper didn't go unnoticed, and he gave her a quick wink in reply. They strode off to the weyrhall where he could finally get to the real flirting without the Weyrlingmaster hanging over their shoulders. Besides, that was where most of the female riders went at this time anyway. Again he quoted, 'The more the merrier!'

Yuri finally looked up from her sketch pad before allowing her chair to fall back down onto all for of its legs, when the Assistant Weyrling Master mentioned a test. A test? A test on what? How well we can draw the map? it should be easy for you then Yuri smiled at Norith’s assessment of the task ahead. It really wasn’t that fair to grade her work beside the other Weyrlings, she was sure that a few of her wing mates might have he raw talent with art that she did but she wasn’t sure if they had honed it quite the way she had over the turns.
The Brown Rider took her time packing up, wanting to talk to the Weyrling Master or even the Assistant Weyrling Master before she left for chores. But she was not the only one hanging back… roling her eyes Yuri couldn’t help but mutter out loud at the sight of Cayana and M’nel, “pathetic.” To be honest Yuri wasn’t sure who she pitied more Cayana for being the way she was or Yora for wanting to be the same. Certainly not M’nel the way things where looking he was going to get laid and two was always better then one, or so she had heard.
what is ‘laid’? Yuri’s eyes widened at the sound of her browns voice and the interest in it, she had been warned about such things when she impressed though the Weyrling Master had emphasized it more fervently to the green riders but she was to obey the same rules. “Now how on earth do I answer that question?” she couldn’t help but speak the question out loud.
