Amoare smiled as she let P’resh lead her by the hand, trying hard to keep from looking too excited. She’d attended hatching feasts before, but had always been rushed to bed before the dancing started and never before had she come with someone.
Reaching the table in good time, she took a seat and looked around again, amazed at just how many people were coming in so quickly. This sure was going to be a party! Laughing at her own thoughts she looked back to P’resh.
“Will the new riders be coming too? What about the hatchlings? Oh Look! There is the Weyrwoman Kyparla.” she asked as she pointed to the red-head across the room. “Is that the Weyrleader with her?”
~~~
E’mion raised an eyebrow at the Sodalis Weyrwoman as she patted his arm. Hearing her comment about the beaches, he smiled politely at her before glancing around the room again for any familiar faces he could use.
“Yes, the beaches here are well used, you can be sure. Perhaps you’ll have time to stay and relax in the sun before heading back?” he spoke in the same polite voice as he pulled out a chair for her next to Lateo’s own weyrwoman’s chair. Perhaps Kyparla herself would come to his rescue and distract Merda long enough for him to escape to the Helios table. More than likely he’d be stuck here until after the food though. He sighed as he took a seat.
Hearing the husky voice of Mariska, he turned his head to her nodding again. “Yes, the clutch was a fine one for a first I must admit.”… even if it was Malekith who should have caught her. E’mion was wise enough to leave this second part off, however, as he watched the brown rider from his wing seat the junior goldrider. This brought a slight smirk to his face to know that at least one of his riders would have a good chance at a gold. As far as he was concerned Helios should fly them all, but that was being greedy now wasn’t it?
Moments later he felt a slight tug on his sleeve and he turned to find a small, familiar face between him and the Weyrwoman. One word left the boys mouth before he rushed off again without explanation. There was no need of any, however, as the Helios Wingleader smiled a true smile, as brief as it may have been, for the boy. A green… and a fine green rider that boy would make.
~~~
L’nuo wandered into the weyrhall with a smile spread wide on his face as he instantly started weaving thru the many women in the hall; bushing up against this one, slipping an arm around another in a quick embrace and soft whisper in the captured ear before moving on to the next. Most he left with a pleased smile, others were left with a look of disbelief. Very few held a scowl once he was done with his words.
The true master of words and women, it was often wondered why L’nuo was placed in Helios rather than Desta with the ‘pretty boys’. As soon as you get him away from women, however, it was easy to see how well he fit in with the riders of Helios, a roughneck beneath the charm and bedsheets.
Finally reaching the Helios table, he looked around to find R’lan already there in an embrace with another man. Well that wouldn’t do… R’lan was his man. Stepping forward, he wrapped his arms around the two men clapping them both on the back roughly.
“What are we hugging about again?” he asked with a good natured smile as he refused to release either of the men.
~~~
Tschermak looked wide-eyed at the mass of people in the Hall. Where had all of these people come from? Was that what the humming was about? Looking around, he carefully moved thru the sea of legs to the next empty space against the wall before looking around again.
The lady at the crèche had told them all to stay in bed… and everybody was, but he was hungry and the smell that had been coming from the Hall had Mak out of bed and following his nose without a second thought. He hadn’t, however, been prepared for so many people! and all so fancy dressed! It was a sight that kept him wide-eyed as he tried to figure out where they were all hiding the food…
Gavanth, more than pleased at the queen's answer, flew to her without another word, landing with a precision his wing was known for. By Faranth, I swear I have never seen anything more beautiful than you this night Queen Zramuth. The stars may shine but you would always cast more light on Pern than all of them put together. the bronze was speaking in truth, for he had never found another dragon more attractive...and he had been around for tuns more than she. did you enjoy the Hatching? He wondered what Zramuth thought of Savath but he wouldn't say anything to bring up the other gold in Zramuth's prescence.
J'mie was not paying attention to what his dragon was doing but was instread thinking about his wing. Greeting each and every one as they sat down. He was pleased to see that they were the best dressed wing there. Hopefully good dancers the lot of them. Catching sight of the Weyrwoman and Weyrleader he smiled. They looked pleased and should be, that was a very well done first hatching for Savath. He would congratulate them later as they seemed to be enjoying eachother;s company more than the people bothering them with congratulations.
His eyes did drift to Mariska momentarily but he soon looked away, she ahd G'rec, that brownrider, with her again. He didn't understand what she saw in the man espescially when everyone knew the brownrider had a taste for women and never just one. Well, women were odd and he ahd never understood them. Seeing that the festivities would be beggining in a moment he cast a smile over to A'sero and said, "Have you found a woman to seduce yet?"
---------------
Morelia found she felt relieved to see L'kel there. "I'm so glad you found me... I wasn't about to walk in there alone." For not being afraid of much one thing the greenrider did not want to do was walk into trhe Lateo weyrhall where many of her ex relations were. A thought flitted across her mind, 'I hope B'leren is not here'. That would only cause problems. "I don't much care where we sit, I know enough people here. As long as you don't sit me at a table full of my exes we will be fine." At this she gave him a mischievious smile. -------------
Hanen showed up late, he was well dressed and had a dark expression on his face. He was of course upset about not impressing but one could not alway win. At least he would have the chance to see his friends once more before they went on to becoming dragonriders and forgetting all about him. As he entere he grabbed a flask of wine and tucked it under his arm. His tunic was a deep burgundy and his pants black. He was more handsome when in his darker moods. Finally he spotted Zylaera, she did look beautiful as always. He was happy she had impressed. In fact he felt she deserved a dragon. Walking up behind her slowly, as if to suprise her, he tapped her on the shoulder. "I've been looking for you. Congratulations."
A'sero looked up as Yuri entered, his smile brightening. "My dear Brownrider." He greeted her warmly. He remembered J'mie. "Have you two met. Yuri, J'mie. J'mie, Yuri." He leaned over and brought his "friend's" hand to his lips. "Could i perhaps press a dance upon you." He leaned over and whisperred in her ear, "If you wont lead." His blue eyes danced. This was going to be a fun night, he had two beautiful women already lined up to dance with. He noticed an old family friend, a new Greenrider with some of the Weyrlings and Weyrbrats. Mine, whats our friend's new dragon's name? Carseith. Lovely. He would have to congratulate Zyana next time he was into the healer's wing. "Have a seat Yuri." He patted a space next to him. The Weyrling tables looked full to bursting with the new arrivals. He smiled at J'mie. "Well, i would say i'm seducing this one here, but i hardly think she'd fall for it." He winked at Yuri.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mariska looked up as Corra came up to the table. She certainly did look good. She raised an eybrow as she noticed G'rec staring. "Corra, why aren't you an image." Not even Corra was going to mess up her night. She wore a one shouldered, drapy and flowy black dress that hugged her curves in simple elegance and was accented by the various bits of gold Mariska wore up her arms and down to her wrists that jangled when she moved. Her neck was bare and her now, just shoulder length hair was swept up with oly a few ebony locks escaping to frame her strong face. She liked to think that her interesting appeanrence drew enough attention without the extra frippery, but she did feel a little simply next to Corra. "Corra, have you met G'rec?" She asked politely as the Brownrider tried to look somewhat interested beside her. She looked over the younger Goldrider for the weyrwoman she really wanted to see; Parla.
Her attention turned back to E'mion, "Two bronzes to add to our numbers, not to mention a good looking bunch of Greens, Blues and Browns." She said , her dar keyes looking, well, less dark than per usual. G'rec gave E'mion an exhasperated and knowing look. He would bet that his Wingleader wanted to be back dowing wine with Helios as much as he did.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Zylaera frowned as it became obvious rylene had not Impressed. Well, there would be nmore chances...two more Golds were soon to come of age. Her friend would Imrpess sooner or later, she hoped. It was just a same they would be in the same class. She whirled as felt a familar hand on her shoulder. She felt tears welling up i nehr eyes. All the happyness she was feeling was about to spill over. She threw her arms around him and hugged him tight. Whe nshe realesed him she noticed how handsome he looked. She was slightly embarrassed that she was still in the clothes she had been wearing under her white hatching tunic. "Oh, fall, Hanen. Its so good to see you." She looked up into his eyes and could see that yet another of her friends would not be joining her. She smiled, "Can i have a dance then?"
J'mie smiled to the brownrider in his usual waym, as he would to any rider of status. "Yuri it is a pleasure. please do join us." He stopped as he caught sight of a familiar person. Why was she here? Ahh well... He got up immediately and with a quickk word to the other two, "If you'll just excuse me a moment." The beuatiful woman he approached was not an old lover or ever would be, but an old friend. He knew hed get crap for this... but there was nothing like an old friend. Seeing that she was with a Bronze rider he smiled. "Morelia!"
Morelia caught sight of J'mie and let out a bright smile. "J'mie! Its so good to see you!" She looked at him and thought he seemed to be enjoying himself. "L'kel this is my old friend J'mie. My father was in his wing for a while before he retired." She moved from L'kel a moment to give the other Bronzer a hug. "How are you faring tonight?" Both of them knew what she meant.
J'mie smiled, "alright, I didn't think you would be here. If L'kel doesn't mind, I would like to steal a dance." J'mie caught the fact that the man was her lover and nothing needed to be said, he knew Morelia well enough for that. Even as a Weyrbrat she had always had her boys.
--------------------------------------
Hanen gave her the best smile he could muster and held her a moment where she was, hugging him. "You as well. Your Carseith is the lovliest green to ever hatch as her rider is the lovliest girl in the room." He said it charmingly, something he had been picking up the last few weeks. One day he would have plenty of charm to go around. There was of course always a serious side to Hanen.
He smiled at her emotional swings... she was overcome he would guess. That was fine, he would be the same if it were him. already he knew he could never begrudge her happiness even if it was from something he longed for himself. "As many dances as you would like." He knew she would not be dancing with him the whole night but he would like more than one ofr himself. She would soon be too busy with her werling trainings to go dancing for fun...and he would simply liek to monopolize her night but knew it wasn't possible. She had more than enough suitors in the weyr.
P'resh sat down next to his lady, and waited for the drudges to bring food and drink. Seeing one with a wineskin, he beckoned her over. "What is it?" he asked. "Fortus white, master," the young girl replied, blushing. P'resh rolled his eyes. "Right then, pour us some," he said, and then, upon seeing Amoare, "please." The drink ws poured and the drudge hurried away, leaving them to it. "I won't tell H'mei if you don't, Amoare," he said, after sipping his. It was smooth, of course, as Fortus wines always were, with none of that harsh foxiness of wine made from grapes grown in less-fertile soils. P'resh closed his eyes, savoring the taste of the wine, the scent of the air, and the pleasure of his company. When he opened them, he turned to Amoare, for he had sat next to her, and took her hand in his. "Would the lady care for a dance after the meal?" he asked at his most charming. ~~~ Merda nodded politely at the Helios Wingleader's words. "I bet they are," she replied, smiling. I will kill J'ren tonight, Caliath. He had better have an excuse good enough to eat for this, she told her gold, smile fixed firmly in place. Beodith says he's been sick and tired ll day, Merda, the gold replied alertly. She was awake now, sitting with the rest of her court that had accompanied her to the other Weyr's hatching. She was close to flight, and Merda knew that a large majority of Sodalis's bronze population was also there with her. I bet, she replied furiously. I think J'ren just told him to say that.Nonsense. None can lie to a Queen, Merda. None. And the conversation was over. Merda conceded to whats he knew was the truth. "Perhaps someday I can retire to this comfortable Weyr. Caliath and I are getting old, you know. I feel this could be her last flight, or perhaps the next," she told her excort, instantly regretting it as it put a most dismal look upon things. ~~~ Shereae and Milaka entered the Weyrhall together, not for any significant reason other than they had neither one Impressed and were feeling a bit sorry for themselves, more than either was willing to tell. "Ought to be a blast, Milaka," Shereae stated, looking around at the 'Hall grimly. "You'd think they'd have the decency to tone down their happiness, eh?" she said, joking, and yet sounding like she might have meant it a bit. "Now, you know they don't care about those who haven't Impressed. Besides, I'll dance with you later, if it makes you feel better," offered Milaka. Shereae instantly brightened. "That sounds fun, I'd like to dance."
Zylaera smiled, for once modestly. "You are too sweet. But you are right, Carsewith is the loveliest." Her tears had dried and her face seemed to radiate with love and happiness. "Oh, Hanen, its liek nothoing you could ever manage. I know we talked of it often and imagined what it would be liek but nothing...nothing." She stopped as she remnembered and added earnestly, "And i know you'll feel it one day too."
He hardly seemed syounger than her. He was tall and handsome and much more mature than the boys of her own age. She smiled. "You'll be my favorite partner of the night," She said honestly. He was a good dancer, that she knew alreayd, and he was her friend. She looked back towards the new Weyrligns and back at Hanen. She wanted to stay with him. She knew thta after this night she would see alot less of hi mand wanted to make the most of it. "You brought some wine i see, how about a glass," She asked, her eyes twinkling with their usual teasing light.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
L'kel raised an eybrow at Morelia, "So we'll have to skip half the tables then." He smiled at her. He had long gotten over jealousy for her past suitors...he kind of had to. He nodded to the man Morelia intorduced him to. He held out a dark hand. "Its good to meet you J'mie," He went through lists of Lateo riders in his mind. "You wouldn't be J'mie, Wignleader of Desta, would you?" He asked after a moment. L'kel hoped to be a Wingleader by that age. The Wingsecond nodded slowly, "Well, i guess one dance wouldn't be too much for an old friend." He said carefully. he of course wanted her all to himself, but he would have to resign to that fact that his mate had many old friends here that would probably want a turn. "J'mie, sir, do you perhaps have a few setas to spare at you're table. Its filled up fast," He noted at the hall.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A'sero looked surpised as he saw J'mie head towards an older, but absolutely gorgeous woman. Now this was intersting. Perhaps an old lover...he guessed no as he saw the wya they acted around eachother. The giant next to the lady must be hers. Certainly looked a little young for her, but then, that wasn't what really mattered. He wodnered if they would ne joined and instead turned to Yuri. "You know, this is quite an odd occurence. The last time i remember J'mie actually having a covnersation with such a hadsome girl was well....i can't exactly remember." He grabbed a skin of wine from one of the nearby drudges and poured a glass for Yuri and himself. "Cheers."
Hanen nodded understandingly. "I would like to be your escort then, lady." He said it in a half joke, as most women did not attend such things alone. "I don't think they will tell you where to sit tonight. You are always welcome to sit with us." He added feeling that it would be better to have her at the same table, knowing he could not eat at the Weyrling one. "I will remember to save you if someone starts steppign on your feet." He winked, laughing a bit. Of course that would be funny.
-------------------------------
J'mie was a bit more serious as the man came up with his title. "I am he. You are a wingsecond, I think I was a wingsecond at your age as well. Ahh its been a few turns since then. blood Char is a good wing. One of the best in my opinion." He was being honest as J'mie was not one to give into flattery. The only exception being women. Of course he would flatter the ones he liked, though that did not happen all that often.
" You are both welcome to sit at Desta Wing's table." J'ie led the way to the table waiting for L'kel and Morelia to follow him. Morelia was pleased to see so many people she did no know. Wrapping an arm around L'kel she smiled. He was so good at not being jealous, she wished she could behave the same, but she couldn't help it.
J'mie introduced them quickly, "This is my wingsecond A'sero and brownrider Yuri." He indicated the two directly across te table from him. "Wingsecond L'kel and greenrider Morelia." Once again he felt out of the loop. Perhaps he should ahve brought a date just for comfort.
Hearing L’nuo’s voice and the rough hand of the brownrider on his shoulder, R’lan pulled back smiling. “This is my brother, J’yse of green Feroniath.”
“Yes, regrettably I am related to this dim glow.” J’yse punched at his older brother’s stomach before offering his hand to the dragonrider. “And you are?” The greenrider’s eyes danced a clear blue as he took in the look of the tall man. ‘Perhaps he should try to arrange Fero’s flight to happen at Lateo?’
Kyparla caught Mariska’s eye and grinned. It took her only a moment to push her way toward the dais of the Head Table, luckily most were occupied and only a few people stopped to congratulate. Looking down, she took her skirts in her hands so she wouldn’t step on the hem and tare the fine material. When her foot reached the small step the redhead looked back up, her eyes finding the tall dark Wingleader setting Sodalis’s Weyrwoman. A light smile played across her lips, a darker emotion ran through her eyes. “Corra, Mariska… you both look so beautiful tonight.”
((I'm gonna wait for Dragonshadow before replying with L'kel and Asero )) Zylaera smiled mischeviously as she moved to sit with Hanen. "Its about time you were the one who did the saving." She brushed her long strawberry blonde hair over her shoulder, "Remember when we first met?" She thought back to when she had saved him from drowning. She sat down beside some of their old Weyrbrat friends and began picking at some food brought by one of the drudges. "How about this?" She asked between bites. "You get first dance after we eat and last dance of the night as well. Sound fair?" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mariska smiled as Kyparla reached the table, glad that there was now someone else there for her to talk to besides Corrra, although she guessed the Weyrwoman would be kept to busy that night to do much chatting. She stood up and embraced the petite redhead quickly. "Not half as beautiful as you do. I swear you almost look like you're glowing. You're a mom," She exlaimed pleasantly, sounding much mroe girly than was common of her "Well at least Savath is anyways. It was a wonderful hatching." She looked to her lover and nudged him slightly "Wasn't it G'rec?" She wasn't usually the gushy type, but she was in a pretty good mood. G'rec nodded to the Weyrwoman ,"Absolutely m'lady." He agreed before turning back to attack his food. Mariska readopted her usual calmer and huskier voice, "Anyways, i'm sure there are many other people you must speak with. We can talk more later." Remembering G'llahar she added, "Congratulations to you as well, Weyrleader."
Hanen thought back a moment but he did remember the day well. "I'll remember that, perhaps I should leave you to the inherent doom of having your feet stepped on without respite." His smile was wicked..."I don't think I could ever forget meeting you and Rylene. You'vre been the best friends I've ever had..." He smiled encouragingly. Then he sat down as well., loading his plate wth various foodstuffs. He ate three times as much as most the people there but he was growing and he still ahd a trim figure so he must be using a lot of energy, and he was. Most people did find a way to comment on the amount he could eat and still look thin. His respinse was always I'm i the middle of a growth spurt.
"I'll take first adn last dance... but don't be jealous if all my other dances are full." He was saying it as a joke though he probably would ahve plenty of people to dance with, his sister included.
((sorry for taking so long))
Yuri’s smile turned to a smirk as A’sero whispered in her ear. “That is quite the request sir, but I’m sure I’m up for the challenge.” She was actually quite good at letting others lead, as she was used to dancing with her father before she came here… at the hold no woman would dance with her.
Taking the glass of wine Yuri held it up repeating the “cheers” before sipping at it, no mater how tough she was it would not change the fact that she was a bit of a light weight when it came to drinking.
She held her hand out to the wingleader and then to the people he brought over in turn. Her handshake was a strong one as she griped the hand not just leaving it lip for the other person to shake. “it is a pleasure to meet so many wonderful people on such a wonderful night.”
***
Corra smiled again at Mariska, curtsying once again. The woman really did look beautiful, if a bit inappropriate but it was too good a day for Corra to worry about that, she didn’t want to argue so instead she would avoid looking at her too much. She did shoot a glance back over though at her rather girly exclamation of the Weyrwoman being a mother, that made Corra look Kyparla over again, she certainly was lovely… well she wouldn’t concern herself with such talk, it was not the kind of thing ladies should discus in public.
She only had to wait a moment before a young bronzerider, recently graduated, approached to pull her chair out for her. He was nervise she could tell, but was obviously well raised as he had come over after noticing she would not seat herself. She thanked him with a smile of approval that made him blush before bowing and walking back to his own table. That was certainly unexpected but it did put Corra into a better mood as she sat to watch the dancing.
Zylaera ate a modest amount of food, but she was much too excited about the festivities and the dancing to eat a proper meal. She gave him a mischevious glance, "And don't you get huffy when the rest of mine are called as well." She smiled an held out a hand as she finished. "Shall we dance?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A'sero smiled at Yuri. He loved that while being so strong a woman she could still be so feminine at times. He nodded to the two visitors from Sodalis and moved over so that they could be seated. He loaded himself up a full helping of food and didn't hesititate in getting started. He leaned over to J'mie and asked in a teasing tone, "Now why didn't you tell me you had such a beautiful friend." He nodded at the greenrider. Too old for him, but he had respect for beauty at any age.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
L'kel sat down with Morelia by her friend, his wingsecond and his err...well it wasn't really apparent what the brownrider was. He said his greetings and shook hands but stood relatively quiet. Soemtimes Morelia was better at starting the conversations than he was. He just hoped there weren't any of her exes nearbye.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mariska raised an eye brow at the thoughtful Bronzer by Corra. Once he had returned to his table Mariska turned to the younger rider. "Well Corra, it seems you have an admirer," She took a sip of wine, wondering how much of a hard time she coudl give Corra without making a scene. Well...as much as she'd love to, it probably wasn't the place. "Now don't be shy, ask for a dance if you wish." She added. "I'm sure you'd rather be dancing than just watching." Before giving Corra a chance to tell her about the innapropriatness of thos remarks she stood up, nodded to the table and led G'rec off to the dance floor.
"Finally," the brownrider said as he placed a hand on her hip and held her fingers lossely in his hand. She just smiled as they started up to the music. She always liked a good dance.

Hanen finished what he was eating and cleaned his face quickly. "I doubt I'll have time to notice..." He said in a fast retort...knowing full well he would be watching out for her. She was ready to dance so he took a quick swig of wine and stood up. As quickly as he could, Hanen stood up and offered his arm to Zylaera. "Weyrling Zylaera might I steal this dance?" He said formally, almost mocking the older riders and their traditions, a playful sheen to his dark eyes.
----------------------------
J'mie waited for the women to sist down first and then seated himself. He hoped A'sero wouldn't ask too many questions about the greenrider she would ahve a hard enough time in this room tonight. Looking down the Desta table he hoped to Faranth none of them started hitting on her. The Bronzer seemed very attached and he wouldn't want his wingriders to cause a scene. "A'sero I know many beautiful women, very few of which I will be introducing to you." He had A'sero there. "Besides I had no idea this particular beauty would be showig up tonight."
As he looked around, obviously he noticed people getting up to dance. Seeing that he needed to eat first he tried not to think about who he would dance with.. he had two dances lined up already... why did he feel nervous? He was an excellent dancer.
--------------------------------
Morelia smiled in her own dazzling way as she was greeted. They were talking about her as if she wasn't there which made her a bit angered. Her blue eyes were piercingly so as she wanted to ex[;ain herself but was finding again how much she hated rankers...never let her speak. Her emotions were always high and J'mie ought to know that.
"Perhaps I came because I wanted good food, fine wine and plenty of dancing." Her words were almost venemous in tone, though she tried to keep it more nice than she really wanted to say it. It was more the way she annunciated I when she spoke the sentance that sounded like a reprimand.

A'zon stalked in, late and with his usual dour expression. At least he had thought enough to wear some formal clothing. His dark eyes darted around the room all but skewering people with his gaze. Why am I here again. His bronze still lounged on a ledge outside. Miroth snorted and replied to his touchy rider nonplussed. You are the Weyrleader's second, its your duty. Shard duty, I hate crowds like this. Once again the dragon snorted. Says the man who lives in a Weyr.
A'zon found a relatively unoccupied table and sat down, grabbing a glass of wine and a bubbly pie from a passing drudge. He hated feasts of any kind, they really were a waste of time and energy. At least the clutch had been good, he hoped this batch of riders wouldn't be as empty headed as some of the others. They needed men with good sense when the thread came. None of these frivolous greenrider females who were out on leave more than active duty. The bronzerider took a sip of his wine and stewed. Really now, if you look like that no one is going to come over and talk. I don't want anyone to come talk. I want this ash blasted thing to be over with. The bronze only chuckled in response.

Zylaera smiled and took the Candidate's arm, "It would be an honor, beastcrafter Hanen." She smiled as they walked to the dancing floor. As they started she looked up at him, a small frown, "You'll stand again wont you?" She asked hopefully, "Look at me, i've been standign sicne before you're age. Sometimes it just takes a little longer, don't lose hope." She said and then said nothing more of it, a smile lighting up her face once gain as they began to dance. "D'you like this song?" She asked, her hand rested gently on his shoulder.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A'sero shrugged, "So you don't trust me?" He asked jokingly, "Well, you have good judgement." He smiled and took another bite of his meat. His hand trailed down to rest on Yuri's leg and he gave her a wink.
