Character Information
Name: Terriel
Gender: Male
Age/Birthday: 15 Winter Solstice Birthing Day
Orientation: Heterosexual
Location: Sodalis Weyr
Rank: Candidate
Family:
Father - T'ren (33 turns) Brown Rider of Drasynth
Mother - Lyrriel (32 turns) Serving/Cooking Drudge
Brother - Terelyr (16 turns) Weyrbrat/Cooking Drudge
Sister - Lyrre (11 turns) Weyrbrat/Serving Drudge
Pets: None
Appearance: In most cases, one would almost mistake Terriel for a girl not only for his hair, but also with the way he clothes himself. Terriel's hair is very long for a guy. His waist-length hair is very silky and shiny that any girl would envy. He usually has his hair up in a pony tail. However, once in a while, he lets his hair down and lets it fall freely down his back. During the day, one would notice that Terriel's hair has a bluish tint. However, at night, his hair is the blackest there is. Apart from his unnaturally long hair, Terriel has deep blue eyes that are almond-shaped. The edges of his eyes have laugh lines proving that he smiles a lot. However, his eyes are very expressive that one would know his true feelings no matter how much he hides them behind a smiling face. His eyes are the windows to his soul with the way that they reflect every emotion that Terriel feels and every thought that Terriel thinks. Inheriting his height from his dad, Terriel stands six feet and five inches tall. His is an athlete's body build, lean and trim. Yet despite his size, he is fast to act in defense or offense if need be. In addition, he is very well coordinated and rarely trips on anything. Terriel has inherited his bronze-brown complexion from his mother. However, one would say that his complexion is perfect being that his skin is not too fair and not too dark in coloring. In addition, on his right chest is a very unique birthmark. The birthmark is lighter in color from his bronze-brown skin and is shaped, oddly enough, like a dragon in flight. As for his face, Terriel has a perfect set of white teeth. Which is something that he looks at first in every person that he meets. His nose and lips are average enough compared to everyone else. However, make no mistake, his face is one that catches the eyes of ladies and men alike. And when he speaks, his voice has such a dreamy quality that most people who are listening are mesmerized. For clothing, Terriel will wear anything so long as it does not clash with his look and that they fit him to a tee albeit a little loosely.
Personality: Terriel is someone who believes in chivalry. He loves to help animals and damsels in distress whether they be young or old. But despite his chivalrous attitude, he believes in doing things by yourself if it should help you to improve in something.
Terriel loves the great outdoors. He likes to run through trails in the forest or walking along sandy beaches. However, usually, Terriel likes to run on runner's routes just to be out and about. However, despite his love of the outdoors, Terriel is a very hygenic person. Never a time would you find dirt in his person or even a disshiveled hair.
Terriel loves and respects all dragon riders from gold to green, for in his heart of hearts, he hopes to someday be a dragon rider himself. Terriel's father, T'ren, had a love of reading and writing that Terriel grew up learning to love writing and reading himself. However, he did not restrict himself to just hide records, he also desired a good, strong, and healthy body. Which is why, he befriended Runners and would sometimes run with them.
Terriel is a pretty quick learner and has a talent for remembering things, obscure or otherwise, better than most people can. However, his best skill is his eloquent speech. He uses wit, intellect, some sarcasm, and a whole lot of charm to appeal to people… it’s a common consensus that he could probably convince a Thread to turn around and go back home just by talking to it. During his free time, Terriel likes to alphabetize things, or arrange things in color gradient patterns, and hire himself out as a writer for those who are unable to do so (be it for illiteracy, blindness, laziness, etc.). He enjoys swimming, and sky-gazing (he’s the head-in-the-clouds kind). He also likes to visit and talk with Artists, if that can be considered a hobby. As for his faults, one would say that his low opinion of those who are considered dimglows or deadglows is a failing trait of his personality. He also thinks that other men do not compare to his sense of fashion when it comes to choosing clothes that will not clash colors. And another trait that may be considered a fault is that when he gets engrossed in his reading, he would normally ignore his surrounding so you'll have to actually physically disturb him to get his attention.
In addition to hide records and the outdoors, Terriel loves animals, big and small. He hates it when they are hurt, abused and neglected. He does not like them to suffer and would do anything to make them comfortable, safe and sound.
Terriel loves to listen or dance to music although he is no musician himself. Terriel loves to make friends and be in the thick of things, but for all of that, he always comes out unscathed. He is very respectful of his elders and betters although they had to earn his respect. Just as he believes in earning his respect among others.
When given a task, he never procrastinates and completes them in a swift but efficient manner. He believes in honesty and sincerity, and hates those who lie and cheat.
Although he likes to flirt with women and the rare man or two, he believes in having a long lasting relationship with someone who loves him for all he is.
For all that he would love to be a dragon rider, he has a great fear of heights.
History: Terriel was born to a loving family. When Terriel was born, he was named after the combination of his father's former name before becoming a dragonrider, Teren and his mother's name, Lyrriel. He was a very lively baby and was the life and joy of his mother, father, and brother. He did not cry at loud noises nor did he cry when strangers took care of him for a little while although his brother, Terelyr, usually took care of him when their mother was busy. Terriel's father, T'ren, was boisterous, sometimes even obnoxious unlike his quiet wife, Lyrriel, who is well-mannered, thoughtful, and surprisingly sophisticated for a drudge. She has two sons, Terelyr and Terriel, and the youngest, a daughter, Lyrre, who could probably spit fire if her temper was stoked enough. But Terriel takes after his mother in personality, even if he has his father’s looks.
As a child he was fascinated with history forever plaguing his mother and father for tales of the old times especially those of dragon riders. Terriel loved history so much that his father deigned to introduced him to the weyr's harper to be taught his numbers and letters at an early age of 2 turns. However, Terriel started to speak at the age of 13 months. His first word was predictably "Dada" but his father did not hesitate to educate him in other words and phrases to increase Terriel's vocabulary. By 2 and a half turns, Terriel was able to converse with his parents and his brother Terelyr. Unlike Terriel, Terelyr then 3 and a half turns old, was not as fascinated with history as Terriel. Terelyr was more concerned with just being a kid. But even though Terriel and Terelyr viewed history differently, they both loved each other and spent time playing or what not with each other and also with their parents.
Though he had a love for history, Terriel also loved to make friends and playing when he could. But because of his great understanding of the spoken language, his friends were usually older than him. Terriel thought that those of his age were not worth his time because they did not understand the things that he did. Sometimes they played rough forgetting the fact that Terriel was really young. Therefore one day, when he was four turns old, while he was playing with the other older kids, he got accidentally pushed out a window and fell five feet to the ground. He got a broken leg and arm which both healed nicely enough without any visible scars. However, since that time, he has been afraid of heights. So long as there is solid ground or floor beneath his feet that he could visibly see, he was fine. However, place him near a window and he starts to freak out; and sometimes ends up fainting because of his fear of heights.
At the age of five, Terriel had already an understanding of reading and writting albeit not as neatly as his father who was the litereate one between his parents. Because of his love of history, Terriel was given the freedom to read as much as he wanted to while his brother was given his freedom to play like any other kid. In addition, at this time, his mother, Lyrriel, gave birth to his sister, Lyrre. Terriel was so fascinated with his new sibling that he helped his mother as much as he could. He loved his sister as much as he loved his brother but he can take care of Lyrre more often than his brother because his brother was usually busy helping the cook. And because of this, Lyrre viewed Terriel as her second mother and favored him more than her other brother Terelyr. However, she loved them both just as dearly as any sibling should.
At the age of six, Terriel started helping out doing little chores here and there. He usually tried to help give his dad's dragon, Drasynth, a bath. However, during his first time of helping out with his dad, he had been so excited that he didn't listen to his dad's warning of not going to far into the water. Because of this, Terriel stepped into a deeper part that made him sink into the water. His father was close enough at hand that he was rescused right away before anything worse happened but suffice to say, being suddenly immersed in water was not an experience that Terriel wanted to happen anytime soon. Therefore, whenever he is given a warning or that he needs to be cautious around something, he makes sure to be cautious or to mind the warning so that nothing bad will happen to him while he does a task.
At the are of seven, he had the honor of attending a gathering with his family. He was so enchanted with the music and dancing that he developed a liking for listening to music when he grew older. He also learned how to dance in case he gets to attend another gathering with his family. However, though he tried to develop his singing voice or to perform on an instrument, he never quite got proficient at them. Therefore, he is content with just listening to music or dancing to them should anyone oblige.
At the age of eight, Terriel has grown up to be very charming and deigning to wear clothes that would greatly be an asset to his personage. He also developed a fascination with his mother's long hair. His dad's hair wasn't too interesting in his opinion since it was such a common dark brown color and it was cut short to boot. But his mother's, his mother's hair was the color of the blackest black there is. It was also very well taken cared of because it was smooth, fine, and very shiny. Even his brother, Terelyr, had inherited his father's course brown hair. Besides, Terelyr keeps his hair far shorter than his dad's that he need not trouble himself to comb his hair even after a bath. Realizing that he had inherited his mother's fine black hair that in his opinion, was more beautiful than most girls', he wanted to be different than most men and decided to grow out his hair.
At the age of nine, Terriel noticed that his brother and a few others of the older weyrbrats seemed to be more muscularly built than he was. He wanted to have a body that was quite fit and healthy like his brother's and the other weyrbrats. He realized that it wasn't enough that he excelled in reading and writing. He needed to do something that would give his body a better workout aside from doing the little chores here and there. Therefore, he started to hang out near the weyr entrance and hoped to make friends with the Runners that passed by. However, one time, he stayed out too long waiting for a Runner to run with that he almost forgot about a chore that he needed to finish. He had ran back to do his chore but he had done it so haphazardly and in such a rush that the person in charge of the chore gave him a good lecture about responsibility and doing things in an efficient manner. When the person who had given the chore got the reason why Terriel had done such a poor job at his chore, Terriel was punished by being prohibited to run with the Runners for the next day. Since Terriel rather liked running with the Runners, he thought that he rather deserved the punishment enough that he never forgot to do his chores on time and making sure that they were done right and efficiently the first time around. Besides, he was rather humiliated because he was given a lecture in front of his friends.
At the age of ten, while out running, he had come across an animal that had been hurt. He felt sorry for the poor thing that he took the injured animal home and nursed it back to health, with the help of a few pointers from the animal healer. However, his first try at helping out the first animal that he had found hurt did not give a fruitful result. The animal had died three days later because of it's injuries despite Terriel's help. It was also during this time that his mother had gotten exceptionally sick that she was bed-ridden for a few days. Terriel saw the animal's death as some sort of failure on his part that he took great care in making sure that he got everything right when it came to helping taking care of his mother. When his mother got better, he viewed his helping to take care of his mother as a success and one of the reason why his mother had gotten all better. Because he hated witnessing the pain of others, he had developed a propensity for helping out the weak and suffering, young or old, man or woman, and man or animal. Most of the time, he liked to take home those injured animals that his family almost wished that he was not so. Still, they loved him for his compassion towards others even if their home sometimes resembled a menagerie from all the animals that decided to stay with them once healed. However, he would not lift a finger if he deemed that you needed the pain in order to achieve some good.
While growing up to this day, even though he had an abundance of friends mainly older than him, he never developed any great love among them. At the age of fourteen, he was presented for the cluch of Gold Caliath who was caught by Bronze Beodith. He and his family was so happy that when he didn't Impress, it was rather disappointing for him and the family. His father rather hoped that he would Impress. However, just because he did not Impress the first time around, this did not make him stop being a Candidate. He stayed at the Candidate Barracks doing Candidate Chores until the next clutch and the next and so on. So far he has not yet been asked to have his hair cut. Although he would greatly dislike having his hair short, he would still do what was asked of him if it meant he would be a dragon rider. He has been a Candidate for a turn now and hopes to Impress a dragon soon. Finally, after a turn of being a Candidate, a large brown hatchling Impressed on him. T'riel didn't care that Werunth was not a bronze. He was happy just to have Impressed Werunth and have his love for the rest of his life.
