He’s never seen them in his long 76 turns and he does not believe he’ll see them in the turns to come. They are gone from Pern and they will not return. As for thread… He finds himself with mixed feelings about the possible threat. For now though, he concentrates his energies on keeping the people of his hold safe from the tension that threatens to engulf the rest of Pern.
Family:
Wife ~ Lady Whindle 71
The daughter of a cotholder, her lucky star was shining when she was introduced to Lord Solum. A caring mother, she raises her children to their full potential.
Son ~ Spero 28
The first son, Spero is the oldest and is the one that helps his father run the hold. Many are looking to him to take his fathers place. He holds his fathers good looks and his mothers soft touch.

The middle son, Kulant was amazingly never jealous of his older brother. He is now following his father’s young dream and is preparing to take his journeyman tests as a miner.

Son ~ Partus 13
The youngest son, Partus has almost no pressure on his shoulders and loves the freedom. Showing a talent in the stables, Lady Whindle and Lord Solum have been wondering if they should send him to the Beastcraft hall.
Pets: Only the necessary gelding to carry him quickly to his outlying cotholds and mines. He is not close enough to it to call it by name.
Appearance: Once black hair has now turned more silver and is kept in a clean, short cut. Amazingly, the silver hair remains thick and full, a receding line just recently becoming visible yet not enough to worry over. A strong jaw is covered by an equally full, and equally clean cut beard. Intense blue eyes are a family trait that he’s proudly passed down to three of his four children. They are eyes that have seen many turns and are wise, even for his elderly age. A warmth can be found in them that could easily comfort any hurting soul.
Years of growing in the forests of Nerat, Solum was not expected to gain lordship over his older brother and so had worked alongside the foresters before going to the Minercraft Hall. With such a background and such a hold to run, it is no wonder that the elderly man is still strong for his age. He is not beyond hard work and welcomes it with willing arms for both himself and his sons, all of whom he charges to work in many area’s of the hold. He uses his strong appearance and tall stature (an even six feet) to his advantage.
Personality: A gentle, but stern man, Lord Solum is a fair Lord Holder. It is often said that his sternness is his mask to hide his loving face. While this may shy some of the more timid holders away, it also give him the ability to command. His many turns has left him with much knowledge and a working view of how a hold should be run and Lord Solum does not hesitate to lead his hold into a bright future.
A gentle lover to his wife and a proud father, Lord Solum is more than happy to watch his children grow into find young men and women. He thoroughly enjoys bragging his families achievements to his fellow Lord Holders, giving him and air of indifference on whatever matters they may have come together to discuss. While this may frustrate many of the holders, Lord Solum finds it an easy escape. Seen as a nonsense man, many of the Lord holders have come to the point that they leave his hold out of many of the matters and discussions of the time. Just the way Lord Solum would prefer it.
Just because he finds an easy escape in his silly bragging to the other Lord Holders does not mean that he cannot be serious. It is quite the opposite. Should he choose that a topic is of importance to his hold then he has the ability to take a commanding stance and offer an argument that is hard to beat. A man good with words when he wishes to make a point, it is a wonder he never had ambition to become a harper.
History: Born the second son of the previous Lord Holder, Solum had never imagined he’d become the next Lord. Growing up in competition with his older brother, Solum always did his best to gain his fathers good graces and sometimes found it. Solum’s father tried to be fair to all his children, even if he was often bragging up his oldest.
In his yearly teen years, Solum gave up trying to impress his dad for his own personal happiness and joined the Minercraft Hall. Having grown up doing hard work, it didn’t take him long at all to find himself passing his tests and receiving his Journeyman knots. A pride to his masters, he was chosen to stand in during one of the rare wher hatchings.
His family was proud and all came to watch. The impressing, however had not going at all as planned, and everyone was shocked to find that it was not Solum who had impressed the little brown wher, but his older brother. His brother amazed, yet surprisingly happy, thanked Solum and apologized many times. For it was that day that threw the gaze of the council from him to Solum.
Solum’s father did not have a problem with the new adjustment, although it took him some time before he grew use to bragging up his new ‘heir’. Solum moved back to Nerat to take over in his brother’s studies of holding while his brother began his own studies as a miner. It was shortly after his 36th birthing day that Solum’s father passed away, leaving Nerat Hold in Solum’s care. For the next few turns, Solum was surprised to find that he’d already gained the peoples trust and that the position of Lord came naturally to him. Easy to talk to and good natured, Solum was found along-side his people as often as in his study.
He spent several years as a bachelor before he met Whindle. The daughter of a small cotholder, she had come in for a gather. Even before Solum had learned that she was in fact a cotholders daughter, he had been swept off his feet by her. Dancing the night away, their love seemed to happen like magic. It did not take much urging on either part to find excuses for Whindle to visit the Hold often. A scant turn later Solum asked for her hand in marriage. Whindle’s parents were pleased and she accepted happily. Finally married at 47 turns, he was pleased to find that Whindle would bare him three strong sons and a beautiful daughter.
Durring his 48th turn, Solum learned that Whindle was with child. The next nine months were spent in eager anticipation as Whindle and he kept each other close. The birth was not a difficult one and Solum was blessed with a healthy baby boy. Donned with the name Spero, he was the picture of a bright, hopeful future.
Happy and content with one son, it took Solum completely by surprise when he learned that Whindle was with a second child seven years later. Apparently born to be a mother, Whindle was met with no difficulties during the labor and a second strong son was the product of the late night. Named Kulant after Solum’s father, it was quickly learned that he’d have a special bond with his mother.
Whindle was joyed beyond belief with two strong and healthy sons and began to dream of having a daughter. After talking with Solum, they agreed to try for one more and a year later their wish was granted. Long hours were spent in labor, but afterwards a small baby girl came forth screaming for food. Happy that they had received a girl right away, they named her Jynex, this time after Whindle’s mother.
Deciding that they were more than content with their three children, they concentrated now on raising them the best they could. Honesty, fairness and the blessings of hard work was well taught to them all. Solum also took some pride in teaching his sons what he had learned as his years as a miner, about the Skybroom that Nerat is known for and how to fight hand-to-hand combat.
As Spero turned into his 16th turn and Solum into his 63rd, both received a present from their mother. She was with child again. Spero was happy for her, but wondered how she would fair at her age. This brought the first lines of worry to Solum’s face as he realized his son was right. Only five years younger than himself, Whindle was beginning to show the signs of age. She was confident, however, and reassured their fears.
Whindle had no problems at all during the labor which made all present thank the stars. The baby, however, was smaller than was healthy and was amazingly silent as it met the air for the first time. Worry line’s deepening, Solum named his last son Partus and prayed for his good health that night, something he hadn’t done since his mother had passed.
The next few years, Solum’s attention leaned heavily toward Partus. The first few years were trying as he watched Whindle worry over the babe’s silence. After three turns, the fear of having a mute child was abated as Partus spoke his first word; Spaarooo. Joy replaced the worry in Solum’s heart and he restored balance to the attention given to his children; well between Spero and Partus at least. Whindle was the one who doted over the middle children.
Entering his later years, Solum enjoys his family more than ever. His eldest son, has already won the heart of the people of Nerat. Found with Partus nearly every waking hour, Solum only finds the two separated when help is needed while harvesting the Skybroom wood that Nerat is known for. It has become a common site to see his son shirtless and a heavy, two-handed axe resting on his shoulder.
Kulant, to Solum’s surprise, has followed his fathers early footsteps and has left for the Minercraft Hall where he prepares to take his tests for Journeyman knots. Jynex, while showing an interest in healing, remains with the family in Nerat where she helps her mother. Learning to run the hold nearly as well as Spero, she prides herself in her abilities.
Solum, while wishing to keep Partus close, is also happy to see him begin to take interest in something other than the tales of Dragonriders that the harpers insist on telling. Finding him in the stables more and more, Solum has noticed that his son has a knack with both horses and herd beasts alike.
In the recent years, Solum’s handsome face has begun to show worry-lines again as news of the Telgar holder continues to reach his ears. A young Lord, by the name of Dorin, has been conquering lands to which do not belong to Telgar, including a Major Hold! While Solum only wishes to remain neutral as the tension rises, he fears that the Lord will soon look to Nerat’s forests with hungry eyes.
