Her muscles ripple when she moves, and her bay coat glimmers with health. She has a white star on her forehead, and a white snip on her lip. All four of her legs have white socks on them. Mo and Astrid have not found a Runnerbeast yet who could beat them in a race.
Appearance: Mowena is a thinly spread women. She stands at the impressive height of 5’9” and weighs the sparse weight of 125 pounds.
Mowena has absolutely gorgeous eyes. They are the only part of her that she will admit is beautiful and feminine. She has large hazel eyes. Her eyes are half and half, the top part is green and there is a slash of brown on the bottom, you can only notice that though if you look very closely. They look like they are one color, brown if it is darker outside, and a brilliant green if it is sunny. She as unusually long eyelashes and well shaped eyebrows. Her hair is a light brown in color, with natural sun highlights in it. It is extremely thick and wavy, she cuts it boy short, and generally doesn’t let it grow down past her chin. Her hair mostly ascends just a little past her ears. It is more convenient for her, the short hair look good on her, and it doesn’t make her look to much more boyish then she already does.
Mowena has a cute face, nothing more or less. She has a slender face and prominent cheeks not to huge though. Her nose is a tad bit to long for her face, but it isn’t wide. Her mouth is small, and formed into a permanent pouty look, that she can enhance in needed situations. Her lips are a light shade of red. Her nose is dusted with light freckles. She has a slight, small and much faded scar on the side of her nose. She slit it in two one day after a fall of a Runnerbeast when she was 7 years old. She also has a bruise that scarred on her stomach after running into a door handle when she was younger, it is in the shape of a door handle and looks like a patch of brown skin just randomly place on her stomach right below her breasts.
Mowena is a long and leanly built. She has pretty much no muscles and she brings a new definition to the terms skin and bones. The only place she has muscles is on her calves and thighs, which is from her extensive Runnerbeast exercising. She has barely any waist or butt, built more like a boy then a girl. Her breasts well let’s just say she is very late in developing.
Mowena’s clothes are not what a traditional woman would wear. She is very much the little rebel tomboy. Her clothes are usually old, faded, and well worn in. Her most usual outfit is, blue trousers that are too large for her and hang loosely on her so you cannot get an image of her figure. She has to wear a belt to hold them up. Her shirts are generally comfortable, mens’ shirts that hang loosely and allow her to be more nimble. Her favorite color is gold or red, and that is what her t-shirts usually are, she has a wide range of different colors to choose from though. Her shirts also hide her figure acutely from mens’ prying gazes. She has only has two formal outfits since they are not much needed for her. She has a beautiful dress that her father bought for her as a joke since she is so boyish. It is white with red threaded through it in an intricate design, she actually adored it, saying she doesn’t mind looking womanly; mens’ clothes are just more convenient. Mo has one skirt that is black, and a pretty red low cut blouse to wear with it. She has one obsession though…shoes, as a Runnerbeast women she has four pairs of riding boots. The boys who grow out of their boots usually give them to her because her feet are smaller then theirs, that is why she collects so many. She has one pair of everday shoes and on pair of fancy ones.
Personality: Mowena has a colorful personality. She is incredibly loyal to her friends and family there is hardly a better friend you could meet. She prides that people can come to her and tell her their deepest secrets with no fear, because she always keeps her promises no matter what. Be wary with her though, Mo, although always keeping her promises has perfected the art of twisting her promises. She is trust worthy, if you need someone to confide in. If someone does something to break her trust in them, she is quick to retaliate, but quick to forgive.
She may appear innocent but that is just a misconception, she is good a getting people to believe that mask of innocence. Behind that mask though is someone who is constantly watching and calculating. She loves puzzling out puzzles, and is rather good at it. People watching is something she is good at and she can come to very dead on conclusion, she knows things can be learned from gossip therefore she is a collector of it but not a spreader.
Mowena’s most favorite characteristic of herself is her tongue. She has a wicked fast one. You must never talk Mo seriously when she is insulting someone; she is so sarcastic that almost every other word she says is sarcasm. She teases practically everything that moves. The thing is though, she is an excellent liar and therefore no one can tell if she is being sarcastic or not unless you have known her for a very long time. She is quick to giggle in good humor, and likes to be surrounded by friends or family. She also loves an argument or debate, nothing serious like I hate you kind of stuff since she is a peacekeeper. She loves to fight for her beliefs in a words argument but when it comes to something more she backs out with dignity. Not that she hasn’t gotten into a few tussles now and then. Once she has begun an argument look out she doesn’t give up. She the kind of person that when she knows she losing she’ll get in one more good word or punch and then run away, claiming she still won the argument. Being a tomboy Mo rarely cries or express any kind of bad feelings in general and never in public.
When others are panicking over things, Mo is laid back. Nothing seems to bother her, and she doesn’t get panicky, she is the definition of calmness and optimism. You could probably throw something at her, and she watch it hit her and not worry about it. Mo’s ability to relax and think logically in a time of uproar makes her a good leader. When it comes to men, Mo enjoys their company, she has more guy friends then girl friends. If the suggest something more then friendship though she becomes nervous and flighty and that is the only time when you will see her like this. She gives a hard chase, and only a few have been able to catch her.
Mowena has a pet peeve though it is when people don’t take care of themselves or their animals. For instant not washing yourself and your animals. Oh…and swallowing to loudly her eye will start to twitch madly when you do that. Some hobbies and skills she has are people watching and Runnerbeast riding, she is also a good hunter. Her favorite food ever is fruit any type of juicy fruit. She’ll gorge herself on them she loves the sweetness and juiciness. Her favorite drink would have to be water, she doesn’t like klah, and she hates alcohol, and water is so refreshing and good for you. The saying she made up was, ’Let us not forget who we are while trying to conform to what others think we should be.’ ((Hint, hint, I made up that quote no stealing it, please!))
History: Mowena was born in Burach Hold she was the first of the future ten children. Her father was a Journeyman Beastcrafter and her mother stayed at home minding the children and occasionally being a midwife. Being the first she was cherished and loved by both her parent. After all her dad and mum loves kids. Which is why one just followed the other again and again… Olarodin always wanted to have a boy, so he could teach him his trade and ways, and etc. He loved the girls as well but he didn’t feel justified in teaching them like men would be, but after producing only girls, he decided to pick a favorite and teach her as if she was his son. He took Mowena, who had many pet names he called her Mo-Mo, after all she was his favorite. When she was five years old he took her to the stables where he worked and breed Runnerbeasts. This was the first time she was introduced to Runnerbeasts and she immediately took a liking to them.
As the year proceeded she began to change quickly, she went from frilly dresses to mens’ clothes, and she became more and more Runner smart everyday. Her father began teaching her how to ride on a little pony named Swain. Meanwhile, Samemha bore him more daughters. All of them were more girlie, the one most similar to Mo-Bo, as her siblings called her, was Petula. Mo was the ‘special’ child though because daddy took her to work with him. He taught the other girls how to ride to but not until he deemed them fit for it.
Mo grew older and more boy like everyday, although she always considered herself female. She was smart and grew to be much prized for her input in the stables. She also began making friends with most of the boys around the Hold, who saw her as just one of the ‘guys’. Her sisters were more traditional, but they had open minds they didn’t care what other people did with themselves. Therefore she had fun with her sibling as most people do when they look back on everything. They had tons of fun, teasing each other, insulting each other, bickering, playing, and privacy was a word that didn’t exist in their house. Everybody new everything about everyone else. Mo also began to help more in the house with her mother who was laden down with all the children. She helped her mother with the youngsters, and her father was still showing her the ropes around the stables, although she didn't really need to be watched anymore. She knew who to help feed, groom, and ride. She grew used to responsibility and duty to others.
By the time she was ten she had eight sisters, and her mother and father decided they were done with having children. The boy look also had completely taken over, she had short boy cut hair, and took up their styles. Most traditional women in the community frowned open her seeing her as a blemish to their good name. The guys of the community adored her as the kind of girl who understood them, and was fun and not prickly to be around. She was very independent and took care of herself and did her usually duties. Her father prized his daughter, his most often comment was, ’Yes, I know, she’s quite the prize that one, the intelligence of a women and the toughness of a man.’ That year he bred a fine filly from one of his mares and stallions, she was a prize that one beautifully made. He decided that his daughter deserved her more then anybody and as a gift he gave it to her to train, care for, and love. That she did, she named the mare Astrid. They are both renowned around the town for an excellent runner and rider team. There isn’t a runner who can beat her, and Mo has been noted for her excellent riding abilities.
As she grew into a teen she couldn’t be more happy and optimistic about life. She had many guy friends and a couple of girl friends who appreciated her as the way she is. She also became an adamant person for womens’ equality on Pern. Trying to prove to the more traditionalists around the Hold that though she acted and looked like a boy, she was in fact a woman. When she was fourteen her father as an inside joke bought her only beautiful dress. She became the butt of many jokes in her house after the gift as presented to her. Petula would often walk by her and say, ‘Mo-bo is going girlie, wow, finally giving up on the boy thing.’ Mo would say right back, ‘At least I look good girlie…’. That week there was a Gather and of course they all attended. The boys, that is what she called her friends, dared her to wear her dress. Who was she do back down from a challenge? Her and her eight sisters trekked to the town and bought a lovely pair of shoes to go along with the dress. They were flat slippers like things, but not slippers they were soft and squishy on the inside, and silk on the outside. They were red to match the dress, they then went back to the house were Mo let them do her all up and pretty. So to say the least when she came to the gather she turned quite a few heads. The boys were amazed at her appearance, ‘Wow, you really are a girl.’ Was what they said. One who had had his eyes on her for a very long time, asked her to dance, she accepted with a wink for her sisters. They danced the whole night away, at the end of the evening he led her over to a corner although still in plain view of everybody. ‘You know you’re really quite beautiful when you’re a girl.’ She laughed quietly her green eyes sparkling. She kissed him quite passionately and he returned the favor, ’I don’t think that was from a boy, do you?’ He went in for another kiss, but she put her fingers to his lips, “You’ll have to chase harder then that!’ And with that she slipped away as a shadow into the night. When here family met her at home, her father clapped her on the back, ‘Well, done!’ something that father’s would usually say to their sons to their daughters their usually like no, bad. The next day she was much the same boy as ever, although she noticed that the boys watched her with closely in a different way then she was used to.
When she turned 15 they found out that Olarodin and Samemha had had an ‘accident’. She was pregnant once again. As if the world had played a great joke on their family when the baby was born it was a boy. All Petula could say was, ‘Poor lad has all us sisters to deal with, it’s going to be hard for him.’ All Mo said was, ‘Father I didn’t have to be a boy for you!” she was being sarcastic of course. ‘You are the best one for the job. The best son substitute I could have had, and you are probably in many ways better then a son.’ That is where Mo is in life right now, she is still as much as a tomboy as ever, and as much her father’s Mo-Mo as she always has been. She likes who she is and doesn’t plan on changing.
