How you heard of LW: Been playin' here for quite some time.
Rider Information
Name: Kabhi
Gender: Female
Age/Birthday: Twenty-eight, Late Summer
Orientation: Bisexual
Location: Lateo
Rank/Wing: Wingrider in Luna Wing
Standing: Kabhi is indifferent to the holders in the North. She will follow the crowd as far as opinion goes, so that if the Weyrleaders defend the Northerners against Thread, so shall she.
Family: Kabhi's mother's name is Jawani, and she is a journeywoman weaver at Fotus Hold. She has light brown hair with eyes to match, and is somewhat plain looking at fifty-three turns. Having mothered six children, she no longer retains the slight frame she had after walking the tables, but she is still fit enough to keep up with her nine-turn-old daughter and still infant son. She was a loving mother, and all her children would agree that she always was there for them with all the love they needed or could ever want. She has a tendency for overprotection, and she occasionally can be a bit smothering. Kabhi and Jawani always had a good relationship, even with the rocky teenage years. She is pregnant again, and expecting in the fall. Jawani was a passive type of parent, usually leaving the rules and discipline up to her husband, Kasam.
Kasam, like his wife, holds the journeyman rank in the Weaving craft, and he is fifty-four turns old. Together, he and his wife made most of their children's clothes, saving a purseful of marks on clothing for their six children. Though he has dark hair to match his very tanned skin, his brilliant green eyes have attracted a fair amount of ladies other than Jawani, but he has remained faithful, excluding once after the birth of Kabhi, who is their oldest child. He is more handsome than his wife, and when he was a teenager, he was almost Searched, but he decided to stay on with his weaving. Weaving is Kasam's first, and many say only, love. He is more of a democratic parent, preferring to be diplomatic with his children then lord over them. For instance, when punishing his children, he often gives them a choice between two punishments: "You may clean the dishes for two seven-days, or you may sweep the floors for two seven-days." He doesn't deal very well with babies, and that is where Jawani often gets her work. He would rather work with his children when they become older, about eight or nine turns.
Kabhi is the oldest of their six children, and the next oldest is Kabhi's sister, Ko. Ko is now twenty-four, and she has inherited her father's strong face features, but with her mother's light brown eyes. She has her hair cut short, and is much more strong-willed than her oldest sister. She is married, and has a child of her own, Ri. Her husband is a simple holder, named Hay. She decided not to go the traditional family route and stayed out of Weaving, preferring to just raise her family and be a housewife.
The third child is Kabhi's brother, named Bariyan. He is twenty-three, and is at the Southern Weaver Hall. He doesn't look anything like his parents, since his hair is light blonde and his eyes are very dark brown. At first, Kasam was suspicious of his wife, but she promised that she, unlike he, had never waivered in her love for her husband.
Gham is Kabhi's next brother, and he is fifteen turns old. He still lives at home, of course, with his parents, but he is rebelling against their authority, like any adolescent. He refuses to go to the Weaver Hall, and instead, spends much of his time tuning and playing gitar. He has his mother's light hair and his father's piercing green eyes, and is becoming very handsome.
Tujh is nine turns old and is very vivacious and precocious. She is constantly questioning things and is very intelligent, and her eyes, inherited from her father, often appear to be her marker for that intelligence. Her light, almost blonde hair, curls around her heart-shaped face. She will grow to be a very beautiful, light hearted young woman.
Bol is Kabhi's youngest sibling (until Autumn). He is only two turns old, and he does not have all of his mental faculties. He is what the cruel would call "dimwitted," and if the Pernese healers on Pern had what Terran doctors have, they'd know he was mentally retarded. He can be very hyperactive, but if one looks in his eyes, they know he's not all there. He has light-blue eyes, symbols of his near-blindness, and his hair is very dark. He has not yet begun to talk, but his parents hope that he will learn to speak a bit in time.
Pets: None. Her family has several, but she decided to leave them all when she was Searched.
Appearance: Kabhi has dark colored hair, and has inherited her father's green eyes, though not so brilliant. They have flecks of brown in them, and there is a shape in the irises like tiny pools. They usually shine, and are very big. She has a high forehead, and a long nose that flares at the end widely. Her lips are small, and rarely do they part in smile, and her face is long, and as a child, she was called, "Runnerface." Her eyebrows are a little too thick, and her ears a little too big, but overall, she is the best mix of her mother and father than any of her brothers and sisters. Her neck is of average length, and she has a very medium build, muscular enough to take care of a dragon, but thin enough to be womanly and feminine. She keeps her shiny chocolate locks shoulderlength, a bit long to shove into a helmet, but she is not yet past the age where she'll be comfortable at the expense of beauty. She puts a kohl-like make-up around her eyes, but that is the only makeup she wears.
Her everyday clothes are a lot like her gather clothes in color, though not in texture and practicality. She likes to wear to red, and it brings out her eyes and medium tan. Her pants are always black, as are her boots, and her everyday tunics are belted with a black belt. She doesn't like her arms, and as a result, she usually wears long, though thin-clothed, sleeves. They are flowing and loose though, so she doesn't get too hot. She works hard to keep her boots clean and shined, and she likes clean clothes.
Her Gather finery consists of a flowy red dress that reaches either right below her knees or ot her ankles (she has two, formality depending on the occasion). They are both cut A-line and have tight bodices. She has black, open-toed sandals for more formal occasions, and light brown sandals for less formal, yet still dressy occasions. Kabhi likes to be well-dressed, and this comes from being raised by two weavers. Her mother and father have made all of her clothes. Sometimes she visits them to get more clothes as well as talk.
Personality: Kabhi is not very headstrong or talkative. She prefers to spend time alone, and is not very easily-trusting. She is a good friend once she gets to that level, and you'll never meet anyone more loyal.
She is highly afraid of being though of as naive, and so she tends to shy away from relationships unconsciously. She doesn't want anyone to hurt her. Mostly, she is a lonely girl that needs help to bring her out of her shell.
She learned how to operate a loom from her parents, but she's not very good at it. Kabhi is the average person: good at a few things, but not great at anything. She can sing okay, and she plays a crude set of pipes. She mostly likes to watch people do things.
History: Kabhi comes from Fotus Hold. She was raised to do as she was told and not to question orders. Her mother and father taught her loom, and she of course took her lessons from the Hold's harper, Fermon. When she showed an interest in pipes, the harper fashioned her a set, and taught her to play. She was Searched while she was playing, and never finished learning.
Kabhi is different from when she was a child. As a child, she was a bit more talkative and outgoing. As her mother had more children and therefore less time for Kabhi, she began to grow silent and more distant. Over time, she learned to self-heal when she had a problem instead of bringing it to those in charge.
Kabhi was with Fermon when the dragons touched down at Fotus for Search. The harper pushed her outside, telling her that it would be a great thing for her to be Searched and maybe Impress a dragon instead of wasting away at the Hold. She hurried to stand in front of the emerald dragon and was immediately in awe of the lovely creature. The dragon lowered its mighty head at the girl and sniffed curiously, and before she knew it, Kabhi was being told by the male rider to go to her hold and get what few belongings she needed and to come right back, because they were in a hurry. She ran to her hold, breathlessly informed her parents who wished her well, and grabbed her pipes, her clothes, and a gold chain she often wears. She and the rider, along with two other girls and a boy, headed back to the Weyr. She was fourteen when she was Searched.
As a candidate, Kabhi aquired a crush on a boy a bit older than she. He was seventeen and she was fourteen, but he didn't know she existed. Kabhi never told the boy, and he later Impressed a brown dragon, and the two didn't really have time to talk after that, so she just let it go. However, she still wishes that she would have approached him to make friends with him at least.
One day, she awoke to dragon hums in the early morning. The candidate master ran through the bunkrooms, calling for the children to arise and don their white robes and sandals. Kabhi was first out of bed and out the door, still struggling into the uncomfortable brown sandals which were not her own. She hurried out into the Bowl and into the Hatching Grounds, where the senior queen was crooning over her eggs. Kabhi had not Impressed yet in the four years she had lived at Lateo, and did not expect to today. Her surprise exploded like a grass hut on fire as the almost blue-sized green ambled towards her in the first half of the Hatching.
Hello, Kabhi. I have longed for you forever, she said. Kabhi dropped to her knees, ignoring the shooting pain that originated from the hot sands. "You're hungry!" she exclaimed, knowing the hunger to also be her own now. "Wait, but what are you called?" she asked frantically. She began to worry irrationally that maybe the green she so admired wasn't for her.
I am Alth, and I am 'hungry,' the green replied, inserting her warm assurance to the new rider. They left the sands and ate a meal like so many new weyrlings before them.
Dragon Information
Name: Alth
Color: Green
Age: 10
Description: Large for a green, light, almost mint-green, her hide is somewhat cloudy. She gives an almost opalescent look. Her claws, wingbones, ridges, and other bone-flesh areas are a lot darker, giving her a speckled look from a distance. They are dark green, almost black
Personality: Alth is an almost shy green, a rarity among the color. She follows after her rider in preference of no company to any, and the few times she is open to others is during Flight. Unlike her rider, however, she has a flair for the dramatic.
History: The small green nose pushed its way out of the hard egg shells and the rest soon followed. She spread her wings and almost fell over, unused to the new movement. After that, she squabbled her way to a crowd of white things and felt for a presence like her own. Finding such presence in a white blob with something drak on top, she shook the rest of the residue and fluid from her eyes and stumbled to her chosen rider. Hello, Kabhi, she said. I have longed for you forever. The girl fell, it seemed, and Alth pushed on her elbow to steady her. After an exchange of names and words, Alth finally guided her new rider to the place that would satiate her hunger--the Weyrling table.
As weyrlings, Alth and Kabhi didn't excel or fail. They worked hard through the training and graduated knowing everything they would need to. They had a lot of fun together learning to fly, where they fell out of the air a lot. Learning how to go between was highly more successful for them, and they were the first to get to the exact point they needed to be at.
Now they have been together for ten turns, and Kabhi knows that Alth is the only company she's ever needed. Maybe someday soon, a rider will come along to change her mind...
