Rider Information
Name: Ollandra
Gender: female
Age/Birthday: 72 / Midafternoon, early winter (born turn 2336)
Orientation: heterosexual
Location: Lateo
Rank/Wing: Weyrwoman’s Wing, retired Weyrwoman
Standing: Ollandra has only known the Weyr her whole life. She believes that the Hold should respect and tithe to the Weyr and has a short temper when dealing with Lords of any sort.
Family:
Father- I’san of Brown Criuth (deceased):
One of the most solid and steadfast men you would ever meet. I’san was loyal to the very end which was his undoing. He was a fantastic father and adored children of all ages, teaching and spoiling them as best he could. Nothing was more important than family and honor. Not the smartest of men but one could never find a truer friend. He died just a few years ago when he attempted to break up a knife fight between several men
Mother- Kyriselen (92):
A quiet and elegant woman, she had always been a hard worker and loved her large family despite the hardships it brought. Kyriselen had been a younger daughter of the Lord of Burach Hold she fled to the Weyr when promised to an abusive and ugly cousin. She has spent the rest of her life working quietly as a cook at Lateo Weyr and it was here she met and fell in love with I’san. Together they raised eight children, two of I’san’s by another woman. Never complaining and always loving, Kyriselen was as wonderful a mother as anyone could expect.
Younger Brother- I’slen of Bronze Weseaneth (59):
A bronzerider through and through, I’slen is a captiviating, jovial man. Much like his father in he passions and loyalties, he resembles his mother as well with his love of refined things and in his elegant manner.
Younger Brother- I’ken of Green Nimbeth (55):
An upstart and a prankster, it was no surprise to anyone when I’ken impressed a Green. His dalliances and partners were the talk of his sisters for most his life. In his loyalties is is almost the dead opposite of his father and seems to change his mind as fast as the wind can turn.
Younger Sister- Lariselen (54):
The oldest twin, Lari is much like her mother and after failing to Impress a dragon she too has settled down to a life as a cook in the Weyr. Mated to a very quiet brownrider, she already has three children.
Younger Sister- Fariselen (54):
Sweet to the point of annoyance, Fari would do anything for anyone. A bit of a stumblebum she has yet to find a mate or her place in life. She is Lari’s younger twin.
Younger Sister- Selena (53):
Much like her mother, Selena is quiet and calm. She chose to leave the Weyr when she fell in love with a trader that had passed through. She still sends word to her family and like her mother she has found much happiness in her man and has five children at the last count.
Younger Half sister- Mirhana (52):
Born to I’san by a Greenrider, her first mother cared for her but was unable to raise her. So until I’san had met Kyriselen she had been fostered with another woman in the lower caverns. A promising Weaver, she just earned her journeyman rank some years ago and is working on her mastership.
Younger Half Brother- I’rin Bronze Altoanth (51):
I’rin came into the world much the same as Mirhana did, he however regrets it and his first mother, while loving I’san and Kyriselen completely. A strong personality, he is easy to laugh and to get others to laugh. I’rin, although many years younger, he is I’slen’s favorite brother, perhaps because they have the most in common.

Appearance:
The years have not been kind to Ollandra, but then they have not withered her. The steel beneath has been revealed creating in her an austere, elegant appearance. Standing at about 5 feet – 4 inches she has shrunk just slightly with age. Her body is still lean and elegant, though the suppleness and stamina of youth is gone. Wavy klah brown hair has long since turned white. It is however, still full and forms a curly white cloud about her head. Ollandra cut it short when she Impressed and her hair has remained short eternally since.
Much like her mother, she has a dancer’s carriage. No movement is ever wasted and it seems everything she does is collected and controlled. Her eyes too are her mother’s a true grey as can be found, they are the color of a storm cloud and have been know to crackle with as much energy. Skin has lost the suppleness of youth, but a long life in the Southern climate have left her brown and tough as a nut. And her personality has left many laugh lines and crows feet on her face. Her face has a sharpness to it that has only increased with age, high cheekbones and a strong chin, Ollandra looks every bit the matriarch she is.
She has a passion for dresses and rich clothing and her wardrobe certainly proves this. Although, she has not a taste for anything garish or gaudy. With her light hair and eyes she thinks such things look terrible on her. Greens and tans are by far her favorites but on formal occasions she almost always wears the Weyr’s colors of green and gold. As much as she loves her dresses though, Olla is practical and wears relaxed pants and blouses around the Weyr. No sense in getting something fancy dirtied with dragon oil.
Burn scars curl up her right thigh and stomach from an accident as a Weyrling, when Shim came out of between too close to another flaming dragon. The damage was mostly superficial but the scars do ache in the rain now. Lucky for Ollandra she is far past the age of wearing short clothing so hardly any know about the scars and many less have seen them.
Personality:
Ollandra is collected and stately at all times when in the public eye. Spending so many years as a Weyrwoman has affected her so that very little surprises her enough to crack. A very intelligent woman, she can banter and barter with the best and does at free rein. Olla is in ever possible sense a matriarch and used to being treated as such. As such she believes it is her duty to set the example for her Weyr to follow and even now after she has retired, she still holds herself to this standard.
A temper quicker than a flash fire has tested Olla on many occasions and she has learned to keep it under a tight lid, however it still manages to escape at times. When a rider has hurt their dragon during an avoidable and stupid error is about the only time Ollandra will totally fly off the handle. The dragons are her life and passion and she spends every waking minute with them and loving them. The people of the Weyr are a close second in her affection, and given the opportunity she will mother them all.
In her youth she had been a woman of wild and barely tamed passions, but they have long since been tempered and she finds much more amusement in watching the antics of youngsters instead of engaging in the foolish activities herself. Olla believes in always moving forward and never regretting. Learning from the past is of vast importance to her, but she sees life as too short and too precious to regret.
She never found that love of her life, A’dan was a partner and not a love. Her passion has only been for her wonderful Shimeath. Her heart has always been filled with dragons and she simply never found the human partner to her heart.
Her juniors have always been like daughters to her since she was never able to have any of her own. A fact that still haunts her heart of hearts, Olla loved her large family and always wanted one of her own. She has since come to regard the Weyr as her family and the youngsters and hatchlings as her children. Since Shimeath stopped clutching, she has stepped down from the position as Weyrwoman. And while she knows Kyparla has a good head on her shoulders the transition has not been easy, for Olla is a woman who has never been idle. The thought of being outdated and useless haunt her often and the thought of simply withering away has been a fear she has had to face more and more. But being who she is she has told none of these inner fears, since A’dan passed she has found herself more and more alone.
History:
Ollandra’s family has always been in the Weyr, when her father still lived he would often claim that their ties went al the way back to when the Northern Weyrs were still in strength. But no matter the case their family has always had many who became Dragonriders. Hey mother, Kyriselen fled to Lateo when forced into a marriage she wanted no part of. She worked as a kitchen drudge not two moons before she met I’san. The Brownrider was everything she wanted in a man and everything that the man she’d been promised to was not. They fell in deeply in love and she soon moved into his weyr and several moons later Ollandra was born. She was the eldest of eight children, but no matter how large their brood got, Kyriselen somehow always managed to find time for all of them. From the start Ollandra was a bright child and always the leader of the packs of children that played in the lower levels of the Weyr. Iaselen, now I’slen was born when she was 13 turns and after him her mother had a child almost every turn. But I’slen was the oldest next to Olla and as such they were always close. It would be Olla that would come up with the mischief but I’slen who would lead the brood on their ‘adventures’. Kyri never fostered out any of the children and indeed even adopted two others who were born of flights that I’san’s Criuth had won. Olla remembers her youth fondly and still keeps in close touch with all her siblings.
It was three months after Olla turned 18 that she was Searched. She sat down to her studies and chores as a candidate with passion. After all she was too old now to be running around with Kyriselen’s gaggle of children. When Ulmerath’s clutch hatched, Ollandra stood as a Queen candidate. She still remembers it as the scariest and most wonderful point in her life. The golden egg hatched fifth and Ollandra stood in awe of the wet little creature that spilled out to stare regally at those assembled around her. There was no hesitation in the hatchling and from that point onward Shimeath became the love of Olla’s life.
Weyrling training was hazardous to the both of them, despite their incredibly intense bond they were a terror in the skies. Ollandra’s obstinate and rebellious streak began to show and Shimeath didn’t help matters. They pushed things to the limits and as a result Ollandra often had latrine duty. It wasn’t until the accident that either of them learned. Olla’s class had just started learning how to fly between safely. Of course Shim and Olla had already practiced this and in their minds they were bored for they were sure they knew all there was to know about between. An older class was nearby practicing flaming and manuvers and Shimeath decided it would be much more interesting to play with one of the bronzes over there. The pair jumped between and came out just as another dragon was flaming. It hit Shim’s shoulder and Olla’s leg. They were rushed to the infirmary but luckily the incident had caused no real damage but it did instill a very valuable lesson in the young pair’s minds.
Shimeath’s first flight was fast and intense, the young gold was caught quickly and Ollandra soon ended up in A’dan’s arms. There were very few flights after that his Bronze ever lost. The pair became Weyrleaders some turns after and while they were never in love they were a good team and worked well together. Under them the Weyr prospered for many long years. The Weyrleader began to get sick, it was just little things. But they got more and more frequent as the years passed. Around midsummer A’dan finaly died and Azmoveth went between. The Weyr went into mourning, but it couldn't function without a Weyrleader so G'llahar, once A'dan's second stepped up. IT was agreeded he would stand temporairly untill Shimeath rose again.
The aging gold did not rise again and it took Ollandra some times to come to terms with this. But eventualy she had to do what was best for the Weyr. She annouced that she was stepping down and that the Weyrleadership would be open to the next gold who rose. It surprised everyone when it was Savath and Kyparla, the youngest of the Weyr’s mature golds. After all was said and done, Ollandra approved heartily. Although saying she was going to step down and stepping down were two different things entirely. Something inside Ollandra had simply faded away and she knew well and truly then that she no longer had what it took to lead.
Since then most of her days have been spent advising the young Weyrwoman and teaching the youngsters. Shimeath spends more and more of her time sleeping in the hot southern sun. And both for the most part are content, if not dealing with their age as well as some might.
Dragon Information[/b]
Name: Shimeath
Color: Gold
Age: 54
Description:
Age has darkened her hide so much that Shim is almost bronze along her joints and stomach now though even in her youth she was a dark, lustrous gold. She is just over the average for a golden Queen in size, stretching 72 feet from nose to tail tip. Her long wingsails are tapered and thinner than most, giving her more speed but drastically shortening her stamina. However, now a days Shim spends most of her time imitating a rock soaking up the sun on her weyr ledge.
Her face is a long tapered wedge, with eyes set far apart. Like her rider, Shimeath can only be called elegant. Long in leg and tail, she is still a shapely dragon in her age. Muscles no longer ripple under a sleek hide also she has lost her sheen and power now. There are scars on her right shoulder from the same accident that injured her rider when they were Weyrlings and they too pain her.
Personality:
Proud and charismatic, Shimeath attracts attention despite her stature and odd coloration. She is a very vocal Queen and leads the Weyr with an iron claw. Her bond to Ollandra is incredibly deep and rarely can one or the other ever hide their thoughts. To those she is close to, Shim is a fount of love and support and extremely protective. Even after her clutches hatch she keeps track of her offspring. And her contact with them as they grow never ceases. Now that she has stopped clutching this doting on her offspring has increased even more.
But make no mistake she is a Queen, as demanding as she is loving. Shimeath rules the Weyr and there is no question in anyone’s mind on that note. People hop to her wishes as do the dragons. And if they don't it makes a very unhappy Queen indeed. As wild as her rider was in her youth, Shim too has long since calmed to a normally serene presence. It was Shim who chose Azmoveth time and again, bringing both riders into a mutual partnership if not love. His death hit her hard and she has stopped her baiting and teasing of the Weyr’s bronzes since.
She regards all that is in the Weyr as hers even if she is no longer Senior. Shimeath was simply the foremost dragon in the Weyr too long for her to ever change. Although with her blood slowing she would much rather tell Savath what she think should be done rather than doing it herself.
History:
The sands were hot, so very hot. Ollandra shifted back and forth, a cold pit in her stomach and a lump of apprehension in her throat. A brown hatched and plowed over a Candidate who got to close, Ollandra couldn’t watch but she knew the young man would never move again and the metallic odor of blood permeated the air. She pulled at the collar of the traditional white tunic, and her eyes darted about looking out for awkward hatchlings. A group of 11 girls stood arranged in a semi-circle about the golden egg which was just now rocking with effort. Ollandra couldn’t help but want to take several steps back, Ulmerath was so close and so very large.
Suddenly the golden egg split and then shattered, sending a wet unrecognizable lump spilling out onto the sands. The little gold was dark and as she dried it became apparent that she was healthy and well formed. She surveyed her new world with a regal air that she would maintain the rest of her life. Her red eyed gaze fell on Ollandra with conviction and steadiness.
I am Shimeath, now you must feed me.
Ollandra’s mind was flooded with love, hunger and a thousand other emotions she could barely comprehend. The feelings were so wonderful, so intense, the young woman began to weep and wrapped her arms about the little Queen.
What is this, are you not pleased?
“Oh my Shimeath, oh my dear, dear Shimeath.”
Lucky for the little gold the pair was escorted off the sands to make room for others and Shim soon got her first meal and nap, settling down contentedly.
