How you heard of LW: Your advertisement a little while back at Weyrplug
Character Information
Name: Xantim
Gender: Male
Age/Birthday: Born in the turn 2482
Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank: Jr. Journeyman
Location: Recently stationed at Keroon Hold
Affiliation: Xantim's is a neutral personality, avoiding conflict but not taking great pains to preserve good relations with anyone. His jealousy of those with more talent can be used to influence him towards hostility, but without provocation it remains simmering and does not affect his everyday attitude.
Standing: Taught by his holder father than the dragonriders were parasites living off the grace of holder tithes, Xantim views them as obsolete and a waste of resources in this day and age. Without Thread, they serve no purpose, and until he sees otherwise he refuses to believe that the deadly silver rain will return to the skies of Pern. The songs and teachings regarding its return no longer apply, in his mind.
Family: Xantim's parents are both alive and well, much to his disappointment, and are as content as ever to steer his life as they see fit. His father, Natimmin, is a minor Holder in an insignificant Hold and has always had aspirations for his family, placing all but the eldest son in the various Craft Halls of Pern and marrying his daughters off to older, wealthier men with a taste for young girls. It was all calculated to spread his network as far and wide as possible, strengthening his own weak position through various alliances. His wife Tilla participated in this only by popping out as many children as she could, almost one a year for twelve turns, until the last one took her uterus with him and she was left barren.
Natil: brother, heir, 9 turns older
Temma: sister, married to minor holder, 8 turns older
Yateni: brother, Smith, 6 turns older
Pimani: sister, married to minor holder, 5 turns older, deceased
Fantima: sister, married to minor holder, 4 turns older
Kess: sister, married to Master Weaver, 3 turns older
Pellen: brother, Healer, 2 turns older
***Xantim, Harper
Redrick: brother, Tailor, 1 turn younger
Orolly: brother, Weaver, 2 turns younger
Lania: sister, married to minor holder, 3 turns younger
Prendra: sister, married to minor holder, 4 turns younger
His wife from an arranged marriage is Ana and, much to his frustration, she has born him two children in their four years of marriage. They are Timan, a three-year-old son, and Antina, a one-year-old daughter.
Pets: He owns no pets, having little time for barking or mewling creatures demanding his attention. His children are the closest things to pets that he ever wants.
Appearance: (Hair, eyes, height, build, clothing, etc. One paragraph, meaning five sentences.)
Personality: Xantim is an overall unhappy young man, his life planned and arranged for him with or without his consent. He rarely takes the time to fight the decisions imposed on him by his domineering family, finding it less of a hassle to just go with the flow and take what's thrown at him. He was never the dominant one among his siblings and rarely engages in conflict, keeping things as neutral and civil as possible to save face if nothing else. It's already gone so far from what he would have wished that, to a degree, he's stopped caring.
(This must be at least a paragraph and a half, meaning eight sentences. You can’t describe anyone all that well in less than that. Include likes, dislikes, personal qualms, skills, hobbies, etc.)
History: Born eighth of twelve children, Xantim's life began in mediocrity. With so many mouths to feed and only so much attention to go around, they were all well fed and clothed, but for the most part neglected emotionally. Their mother never had easy pregnancies and was usually bedridden for the last few months of one, leaving wet nurses and nannies to care for the children. Her husband certainly wasn't going to get involved in the domestic realm. That was a woman's business and he rarely spoke to his children until they were old enough to hold an intelligent conversation. Even then, his speech was more command than anything else.
His mother did her best to keep the pack in line, snapping out orders and complaints with equal fervor. After they reached a suitable age, each of his siblings was subsequently apprenticed out or married off depending on gender, with his eldest brother the only exception. There was always a neutral hostility simmering below the surface of sibling relations, each of the boys competing for their father's favor so that they might win a chance at their craft of choice. In the same light, his sisters were all expected to dress and behave as proper if poor young ladies, taking on little heavy work so that they would not be tarnished when it came their turn to be matched and married.
As the only child with any musical talent whatsoever, Xantim was the default choice to become a Harper. His talent is limited to a passably pleasant singing voice and a hard-won proficiency on the guitar. He's also good at keeping the rhythm with a hand drum, but only for short periods. His memory is also extremely good, storing away passages and songs with near-perfect accuracy. This theoretical knowledge, combined with his mediocre talent, is what elevated him to the Jr. Journeyman rank at the age of twenty-six. Before they move him up any further, his superiors want to see how he'll handle himself in an actual post and so sent him along to assist the new young Journeyman in Keroon.
He brings with him a wife, selected for him by his father, and his two young children. Their marriage is more a partnership of silence than anything romantic. She keeps the children occupied and away from him, and he makes little complaint when she spends some of his hard-earned marks on pieces of jewelry. It is a peacable, if cold and unhappy, relationship.
