Character Information
Name: Viden
Gender: Male
Age/Birthday: 16/late summer
Orientation: Heterosexual
Location: Lateo Weyr
Rank: Lateo Weyr Candidate
Family: Viden only has a mother, Dia, as his father left them for another woman when he was only 3. Dia is quite small with almost white hair, as it has been bleached by the sun. She lives in a small cottage near Lateo Weyr, and earns money through insignificantly small jobs. She is 42 turns old, but looks and acts older.
Pets: None
Appearance: Viden has very dark hair, slightly bleached into a medium brown with light ends by the sun. It is normally messy, but is combed for formal occasions, little though they are. It is kept quite short for the same reason. His teeth are yellowing, although he brushes regularly. He has thin lips, curving down at the ends, giving him a stern appearance. His eyes seem slightly oriental, tilted upwards, and are startlingly blue in contrast to his dark hair. He has a long, pointed nose, emphasising the sternness. His skin is tanned a light brown by the sun, but where the sun has not touched his skin is extremely pale. He has a muscular body, and is very tall for his age, standing at 6 foot 2.
He usually wears long sleeved shirts and trousers, as he seems immune to the heat, but occasionally dons dark t-shirts. They are usually black or brown in colour, and very scruffy. When travelling, he wears a black cloak for extra warmth and as a shelter from any wind or other weather conditions. He looks after his appearance, and is often praised for his cleanliness.
Personality: Viden is usually friendly, although prefers his own company. He tends to seek the friendship of those who are otherwise ignored, and also feel alone. He enjoys most leisure activities, whether they are group activities or not, and does not mind if he does not take a lead position. He usually lets others win a game, even if he is very skilled at it. He tries to see jobs through to the end, and is highly thought of because of this. He enjoys studying, and is an adept at remembering difficult information. However, if something bores him for too long, he will complain loudly and for a long time, until he is satisfied. This often takes weeks to halt.
Although he is evidently hard-working, Viden can be impatient and cannot wait for important events. This often heightens complaints. When the event comes, however, he is polite and respectful, and looked on as a quiet individual. He does not try to attract attention from "popular" or powerful people, instead letting them look for him if they so wish it.
Viden is skilled in reading and writing, and often imagines situations for dragons and their riders to be put through. This results in many, largely discontinued stories, which he spends a lot of time writing. He uses every opportunity to write these down, but stores them mainly in his head for later use.
History: Viden lived with his mother for most of his life, but treasures the few memories he has of his father, who left home for another woman when his only child was just 3 turns. Due to this separation, Viden tried to stay with as many friends as possible, feeling lonely. At 5, he was sent on the first of his errands, and was praised highly for his manners and performance. This presented an opportunity to his mother for her son to be a great help to many, and she sent him on many errands to the most important people she knew of. This led to his vast knowledge of good manners and the way to behave to those more powerful than him, and kept him from causing trouble or burdening his mother further.
After a visit to Lateo weyr, Viden became obsessed with dragons, riders and their journeys, and took up learning to read the messages he was given. He soon succeeded, and began to write his own stories using charcoal and any materials he could find. Discovering this, Dia sent him to the weyr to further his knowledge of dragons for his detailed stories. Instead, Viden became determined to be a rider and persued the career with great interest. He tried to make friends with the few riders he knew, but only succeeded in meeting other, more permanent inhabitants of the weyr. He still persues his chosen career path with interest, but keeps largely to himself.
