Though if described to him, or given first hand accounts the fear will decrease exponentially, and become only a dull throb.
History: Harac was born to Daran and Theere at Fort Hold. Daran and Theere were herb growers for the healer hall. From the very beginning Harac was submerged in the plants and herbs of the healer profession. He learned the names of the journeymen, masters, and plants before anything else. He had many times where he learned which were not healing plants and which where the hard way before listening to his parents. There was one such incident with Comfrey where Harac was sick for several days.
When the time came he went to learn the teachings, and took to them. He had a nice tenor voice as well to sing the songs with. Yet his parents did not want him to go to harper hall so he didn’t go. During the teachings several boys made fun of Harac because he always smelt of herbs and medicinal stuffs. Harac would also miss out on classes because it was harvest time and his parents would need his help. Though taunted Harac made several friends as well who liked to help with the herbs and plants. Surit, Jonac, Marc, and Twendl were Haracs four good friends.
It was with them, when he was seven turns old that Harac got into misceif. During one of the dinners at the healer hall Surit and Marc were serving dinner. Twendl, Jonac, and Harac went and got some Hyssop. They added it to the roast, just sprinkling the top, and let the boys carry it out. The master healer took on bite and immediately told everyone to stop eating. When he asked who had done it nobody stpeed forward. Finally, miserable and dejected, Harac admitted and claimed all responsibility. Then Jonac stepped forward and also claimed part of the act, the Surit, Marc, and Twendl followed suit.
The master healer left the table and took the boys away leaving everyone to eat. He then lectured them on why not fooling around with medical supplies was important. He then sentenced them to study under Journey woman Gleen about plants, supplies, and infusions. When Harac began to protest the master healer interrupted and said he obviously didn’t know or he wouldn’t have used a potentially hazardous substance.
The boys learned and Haracs interest in the healer profession grew. He began to ask questions and get answers. During this time his mother became pregnant. She explained the process to her nine turn old Harac and when she gave birth he waited outside the door.
He didn’t have to be a healer to know something was going wrong whe the nurses began running around bring journeymen who came out shaking their heads. Soon Haracs father arrived and spent some time in the room alone. Daran then called his son in. His mother lay on the bed pale and breathing hard. She smiled when he came in and lifted her right hand.
She told him several things about how to care for babies, and how his father and the nurses would help but he had to be there for his baby sister. She moved her left arm and the lump turned into a small, red, wrinkled face wrapped in blankets. She placed her in Haracs arms and continued. She told him how Keera would need him to be there for her. Then she told him the one thing he would find it hard to forget: I love you, and someday you’ll make a great healer, but understand this. You won’t win every time. Take the wins and the loses equally and you’ll make it. Theere died taking with her the dead twin son Harac wouldn’t know of for turns to come.
From that day forward Keera was either with Harac or his father, but mostly with Harac. When he went to tend the plants she was playing in the dirt beside him. When he went to lessons she played quietly in an adjacent room or took a nap. For five years he taught Keera and helped her, then the healer hall opened their doors to him and he became and apprentice. Keera didn’t understand at first why he had to leave, then slowly learned and accepted the change. Harac found it hard to leave her, but under the tutelage of Journeywoman Gleen he worked hard and adapted swiftly.
Of the original four friends only Jonac came to healer hall as an apprentice. They stuck together and made new friends but none could come between Jonac and Harac. The turns of apprenticeship were hard and uneventful; classes, practicals, classes.
When Harac passed the exam for journeyman he was 20. Jonac still hadn’t passed but would the nex tyear. Harac was given Nerat Hold as his first assignment to help Journeyman Laeer. Laeer was a hard old man who insisted upon drilling as much knowledge into Haracs head as possible. Since Harac had only stitched a leg or two, created infusions, and learned the theory Laeer was giving him hard core information and training. Harac absorbed it all amazed at the extent of the craft. Druing the turn with Laeer Harac dealt with needlethorn, bear bral injuries, accidents, and people. He learend hot to handle the holders and their lack of medical terminology. He made friends with the kids and took care of them. But the time came and he was assigned Ruatha.
Turn after turn he was shuffled from hold to hold, major ,minor, to other craft halls. At each was a new perspective of the healer profession, but of them all Harac leaned toward surgery. The stitching of wounds, setting of broken limbs, and the general taking care of the major injuries.
When he came back to healer hall Harac had spent ten turns traveling. His first objective was to find Keera. She had grown into a beautiful woman of twenty five turns. The both greeted each other joyfully. Keera and Harac re-established their bond and enjoyed a seven day uninterrupted.
For two more turns Harac studied working towards specializing in surgery and passing his exams to become a master. During free time the well built Harac either romped with the hall brats or helped Keera with the herb garden. Also during this time Harac met Nemran, Keerans long time suitor. When Harac approved of him personally, and their father gave his blessings Keeran and Nemran were married. The ceremony was simple yet touching. Daran then left Fort Hold for Ista where he died a couple turns later.
Harac passed hi Masters exams and let it be known he specialized in Surgery, but had a proficiency in everything. The healer hall kept him on for two m ore turns before relenting and allowing High Reaches to claim him for tow turns. The first turn there Harac met Seeta. Though eight turns younger both fell in love and the next turn were marreid. By this time Haracs father was dead of lung disease and could not attend.
When Harac came back to healer hall it was to stay. He and Seeta settled into a daily routine. Harac would go and teach in the mornings, do surgery in the afternoon if needed, and come back home. Seeta would clean house in the morning , go to the market at lunch, and work in the garden till Harac came home. Two turns of marital bliss followed before a son was born. This birthing Harac paced the hall, nervous, only to enter and find a small, red boy in his wifes arms. They named him Novarin.
When Novarin was three turns old there was a major accident requiring Haracs help at one of the minor holds near Fort. During the construction of a stone wall one of the piles of stone slid and killed three men and injured four others.
Upon his arrival Harac went straight to surgery and took each of the injured in turn setting broken, splintered leg bones. Cleaning wounds and stitching gashes. When the fourth man was brought in Harac stopped. It was Jonac. Over the turns they had lost contact, and now Harac had his life in his hands.
Upon examination Harac found a crushed chest, splintered leg bones, a cracked pelvic girdle, and numerous gashes. When he asked why he hadn’t been first Harac found that Jonac had just been pulled from the rubble. After a long time working on him Jonac opened his eyes. He told Harac he wished they had kept together, and died.
Harac went back depressed and angry that he hadn’t been able to save Jonac, but less than a turn later he was reminded of his mothers last lesson. Seeta gave birth to another son, and upon entering the room Harac saw not Seeta, but his mother again. They named their second son Jonac.
