Character Information
Name: Corlanes, or Cor to his friends
Gender: Male
Birthing Turn: 2390 (Early Spring)
Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank: Lord Holder, Ista Hold
Location: Ista Hold
Affiliation: Cor is fairly peaceful. He won't interfere with any other Hold's business, just as he would not appreciate someone else's interference with his.
Standing: As a child, Cor listened with wide-eyed wonder at the stories Harpers told of the legendary dragon-rides. His parents, especially his mother, would chastise him of his interest in them, saying their time was long past and that he better put his mind to important things like how to run a hold. But Cor, deep in his heart, believes there are still dragonriders out there. And he'll be there cheering them on when they return.
Family: Father: Lord Crineas (deceased). Mother: Lady Orlea. 3 sisters.
Pets: Cor has no pets at the moment, but is looking to impress a firelizard. Oh, he would like that.
Appearance: Cor is a spitting image of his late father, something he takes pride in. At 6'0, with short, dirty blonde hair, green eyes, and a strong chin, he has grown into a handsome young man. It is a stark contrast to his personality. He has a nice build and wears well-tailored clothes: "Things that are fit for his station," as his mother would say. But he could care less about what he wears, as long as its comfortable and he can get his work done.
Personality: Cor is a quiet young man. He hates arguing or fighting and tends to be shy around new people, and would much rather be alone when he works or outside fishing or suprevising. He's always been this way, which is why it was so easy for his mother, who was no help to begin with, to take control. Deep down though, he is his father's son. There is ambition, pride, passion, and strength. When he is deeply involved in his work, or something strikes an interest with him, he can be transformed to an almost entirely different man. One with intensity and authority. A man his father would have to lead their Hold. But will those qualities be able to surface, now that Crineas is gone? He is also caring, and a good listener, but how this will help him be the Lord his father wanted him to be, he doesn't know.
History: Corlanes is the only son of Crineas and Orlea. Since Orlea had such a hard time bearing children and then only one son , she doted on her only son. Some would say too much. His father was a good man, and Cor looked up to him like any son would. Corlanes became the Lord Holder of Ista only recently, when his father passed away suddenly from problems with his heart. Cor was forced to grow up fast, since his father's death had been unexpected. His mother was there though, to help and comfort her son. She knew what was best, and would be there to help Corlanes in his new-found duties. At the time, this sounded great. He wasn't ready for this. Cor had thought he would have turns before he actually had to take over the Hold himself. But he soon found his mother could be very over-bearing and domineering, and Cor was being pushed into decisions he didn't want to make. Like being bretrothed to Onora, the younger sister of the powerful Lord Dorin. Of course, he had to go along with the arrangement. To be honest, he had no choice. He was not one to go against his mother's wishes, and Lord Dorin was a powerful man, building up armies and conquering Hold after Hold that didn't align with him. As meek and timid as he may be, Cor did not want to see any harm come to his beloved Hold. What would his father think of that?
All these things began adding up. For a long time, Cor had been fine with going along with his mother's suggestions and advice, but now he was beginning to get sick of it. First, he had always pictured loving the person he was with and having the woman return those feelings. He looked forward to marriage and many children. You could call him a romantic at heart. Now, thanks to his mother and politics, he was betrothed to a woman he didn't know and, more improtantly, didn't love. If only he could find a sympathetic soul to share his problems with and help him.
He knows he has to step up. Who knows what else Corlanes will be pushed into against his own will if he allows his mother to continue controlling him. Who knows what will happen to the Hold. Deep down, Cor realizes now is the time to be strong, for the Hold and himself...but realizing and doing are too different things...Will he find the strength in him to be his father's son and the Holder he needs to be?
