Father: Halnate is a well known bovine herder, famous for his abilities to handle a herd and train dogs to work a herd. He is 42, tall and rangy with brown hair and eyes, bronzed by the sun with crows feet by his eyes and a runner-riders bowlegged walk
Mother: Donlia, Headwoman of the Hold, 38 years old with black hair and brown almond shaped eyes. She is a medium height, very slender woman somewhat infamous for wanting nothing to do with the bovines unless they were already in a form to make steaks or stews out of.
The two are a happy couple whose territories never conflict. She rules inside, he outside.
Sister Danima 23, a female version of her Father. A journeyman BeastCrafter assigned to a farming Hold to the South
Sister Manina 21, assistant to her Mother after a bad fall from runnerback left her with a limp at 15. She has become quite a good cook and is courted by several of the Herders.
Younger brother Karlin, 13 apprentice Smith. He never seemed to want to work with the Herds, preferring to solve puzzles and to learn to mold metal.
Pets: none. The hold runners and canines are working animals
Appearance:
Haldon is 5ft6 and around 115 pounds, thin, wiry and still growing. He is strong and tough with calloused hands and deeply tanned skin. His hair is a dark brown, thick and cut so that it will not blow into his dark brown almond shaped eyes. His normal wear is sturdy brown pants, leather riding boots, loose long sleeved off white shirt and a colorful bandanna around his neck with a second stuffed into a pocket. He has a light colored wide brimmed hat to keep the sun out of his eyes and off the back of his neck, the hat can tie up to either side depending on wind and sun conditions.. He wears a braided leather necklace holding a large feline tooth and a braided leather belt with a knife and a water skin.
Personality:
Haldon is a mostly even tempered and very self confident fellow. He is sure of his place in the World and sure his parents approve of him. It takes a bully or some fool who feels himself superior to others to ruffle his calm. His parents blame themselves for this failing, his mother rants about fools who feel their sweat doesn't stink and his father cannot stand bullies, whether of animals or people.
He is afraid he is starting to grow again as things seem to fall out of his hands or get kicked more often then usual, fortunately it is not a problem once he is mounted. When riding, he doesn't have to worry about too large feet. Being clumsy around animals is not a thing to be, and he hates looking like he doesn't know what he is doing.
Thus far his roping skills are still OK, perhaps due to him upping his practice times.
Haldon loves working with scraps of leather to make bracelets or necklaces, and watches for bits of stone or bone to work into his creations as he rides. He hates klah, drinking water or teas instead. He gets much grief for this, but the stuff even smells bad to him. He can eat a truly amazing amount of food, particularly steaks or stews.
He can carry a tune, and will sing to himself and the animals sometimes, but does not consider his voice to be good enough for other humans. Beasts are an uncritical audience, people can be cruel. Besides, if his voice where that good, the Harpers would have apprenticed him, right?
History:
Haldon was brought up in a Bovine ranching hall, where there is some farming and raising runners, but the main focus is on growing bovines for the Weyrs and for food. His father is acknowledged as the man who knows the beasts best is the Hold, he consults daily with the Holder and is admired by the other men.
Haldon grew up wanting to be admired for his skills as much as his father is, and has been working to learn about Canines and runners and bovines since he was allowed to leave the Hold buildings. He has had some training from the Hold BeastCrafter in how animals think and behave and has combined that with his fathers instructions to watch everything and to try to feel what the herd is thinking. He thinks he is starting to be able to feel the herd, though it is far easier to know what a canine is feeling.
He has had a few falls from runnerback, leaving him with the painful knowledge of having cracked ribs and a sprained wrist. Scrapes and bruises are things to be ignored. People have died from falls, he has tried to learn caution from his. Falling is from being reckless and can cause you to spend months at the Hall helping the cooks and being lectured by his Mother about recklessness is NOT worth it. He checks his straps and gear with the care of a much older man now. He has no intention of taking another fall if there is anything he can do to prevent it.
He has proved himself enough to be taken on his first bovine drive. 1200 head are being taken to Lateo Weyr. This is the first time he has been off the large Hold grasslands, and perhaps best of all, his Father is not coming. This is his first taste of adult responsibility and he is loving it, amusing the other herders with his careful attention to doing at least his share of the work, and doing his best at it.

Background: Was the sixth to hatch....had a piece of shell stay stuck to her nose and wondered...err charged around blindly for awhile...until her chosen rescued her...
