How you heard of LW: I just EzBoard searched Dragonriders of Pern.
Rider Information
Name: Pareshan (Pair-eh-SHAHN), Honorific- P'resh
Gender: Male
Age/Birthday: 25 years, Late Fall
Orientation: Heterosexual (Erm, rigidly so...)
Location: Sodalis Weyr
Rank/Wing: Wingsecond/BloodChar Wing
Standing: P'resh hates the Old Ways, and believes that the Holders and their families do not deserve to be protected in the time of Thread. The cruelest part of him wants them to suffer the consequences of doubting the Dragonriders. He will, of course, fly Thread when it falls, but it will be because that is what he and his Dragon were made for, not for the damned Holders.
Family: P'resh comes from a family of Weyr-people. His mother was a Kitchen Drudge named Doranna, and his father was a bluerider of no consequence (his name was M'shan). As such, P'resh has severed ties with them all, and though he has one sister, he chooses not to acknowledge her. His family is very pained, and his sister, Clayna, hates him as well. P'resh couldn't give a damn less.
Pets: A green fire lizard- Raaton (like "Rotten"). She, quite contradictory to her friend, is loving, and her caresses and crooning often put P'resh in a better mood.
Appearance: P'resh has a tannish complexion, but that is mainly from living in the South Continent for his life. He enjoys keeping himself well-shaven, and he maintains no side-burns, beard, or mustache. His eyes are cocoa brown, and his hair is a rather dark dirty blonde tint, that looks medium brown in most lights. P'resh's nose is shaped like a bell and really flares down at the end. His upper lip is highly thin and his lower is a bit thicker, though not much. His cheekbones are well-defined and his jaw is big, even better defining his high cheekbones.
He has a semi-muscular body, and as such, he doesn't look like a Terran "body-builder," more like a male model. He has muscular arms, but he kinda has wherry legs...yuck.
As it is hot in the south, P'resh prefers to wear sleeveless, thin tunics. His casual shirts and work shirts are either a light brown color, or a deep crimson. Because of his legs, he doesn't like to wear shorts. Instead, he wears thin, tailor-made pants made that taper down to his ankles, which are colored brown or black. His belt buckle is in the shape of a bronze dragon. P'resh always wears boots, no matter the temperature, which are only half-calf high.
His formal wear is much more handsome than his casual wear. For gatherings, Hatchings, and other such parties, he likes to look his very finest, and he accomplishes this by wearing his favorite colors. P'resh is a very vain man, and he knows which colors accentuate his coloring and which colors make him feel good. His three dressy tunics vary in shades of deep greens, and that brings out his dark brown eye coloring, and makes his tan really show up. He also has a red one that he likes particularly well. All his tunics have embroidery on them to embellish their look, the green tunics having golden thread, the red having silver. He always wears black pants, and the boots that he wears for the formal occasion are black and well polished. They also go three-fourths up his calf, almost meeting with his knees. His belt has a buckle which goes with either color of tunic, and it is of a gold dragon entwined with a bronze.
He has a bit of jewelry, which include arm bands that he wears for gathers and other social events. He has a necklace that he wears all the time. It is a coppery-bronze necklace with a pendant on the end of a bronze dragon sitting with one claw in the air, wings outstretched. As one could tell, P'resh is properly obsessed with Bronze dragons.
Personality:
Having a constant chip on his shoulder often proves to be trouble with P'resh, and there had been many a time in his weyrling days when he was given extra chores for disobedience. Nowadays, though, he may mumble about taking an order from a "lower-ranking rider," but he'll still follow it. His greater strength is giving orders. P'resh is a charismatic speaker (one reason why he is so popular with the ladies), and his face can display a wide range of emotion at P'resh command. He also has a great smile, which goes a long way in helping people to trust him.
He is able to take control of a group and give them orders, and the orders are always carried out. He is not above breaking a nose (arm, leg, face) to get what he wants. He's not necessarily a bully, just a mean sunnuva bitch. He rarely has to break limbs however, because his charismatic abilities as a leader are "please" enough.
P'resh, though he is quite an ass, is completely trustworthy, and he scorns gossips and naysayers. He believes himself above all that drama, and he will often give gossipy greenriders intensely dirty looks. He doesn't enjoy listening to other people's problems, and he doesn't share his own. He isn't a conventional ass, gossipy and idiotic. He is just more obsessed with himself than almost anything else (with the exclusion of Kaunth and Raaton), and it shows when he walks away from conversations with other people, especially when they are talking to him. He doesn't like to talk much, because he kinda believes that people should know what he wants and just do it. When he does talk, though, his honey-sweet, warm voice demands the ears of passers-by. P'resh talks to himself a lot, mostly, and only when he knows he is alone, like in his weyr with Kaunth.
As for Kaunth, P'resh sees the dragon as his only equal. He figures that since a dragon chooses someone most like himself, they must be pretty well matched. And he is right, Kaunth is as much of an ass as P'resh...but I digress.
P'resh knows the ladies love him, and he often uses this knowledge to take advantage of the women of the weyr. He has even been known to use his good looks and charm on shy and fearful candidate girls! No one ever accused P'resh of being the nice guy, and he isn't. P'resh is arrogant almost to a fault, and he is highly sure of himself. The confidence must be a turn-on for women, because they keep coming back for more, as he sees it. P'resh is one person that you will always know where you stand with. He is honest, to a point of brutality, and he isn't afraid of anyone.
P'resh always had thought he would be a bronze rider, for nothing else was good enough for him. His ego is the size of a bronze dragon, so it is appropriate that he have one.
He likes a bit of good wine in the evenings, and his favorite food are sweetrolls, especially those of the headwoman of the Weyr. He enjoys food very much, almost ot the point of gluttony. One thing P'resh absolutely hates is tubers. As a child, his mother made him eat tubers every night of his childhood life, and as a result, he grew a fat dislike of them. He never eats them. Ever. He is also not so fond of babies, though he has several. But he doesn't eat them...erm...
P'resh fears sickness. In his sixth turn, he became ill with what the Ancients knew as Rheumatic fever. This is the reason why he has little chicken legs. The sickness came down on him during a growth spurt, and as a result, he has never been able to break the 5'9" height barrier. He hates when people bring it up. (I love tiny dictators...))
History: There really is no reason for P'resh to behave as he does. It would seem that he was born with a chip on his shoulder. When he was old enough to understand that his parents were "nobodies," as he put it, he left. He was about thirteen turns when he did, and though his family tried to talk him down, he wouldn't have any of it. He hasn't spoken to his father (or sire, as he calls him) since he was fifteen turns, which was ten turns ago.
After leaving his family, Pareshan went and lived in another small familial compartment in the lower caverns by himself. He still attended lessons, still learned his craft (weaving) and ate in the caverns, just alone. When he turned 14, he suggested himself to the Candidate Master for candidacy, and the Master's blue dragon declared him fit. He was accepted. That turn, Bronze Beodith flew Gold Caliath, and Caliath clutched. Kaunth was in that clutch, and he was Impressed by Pareshan, or P'resh, as he now called him. P'resh had Impressed his first time on the sands, something he uses as bragging rights and is still immensely proud of.
Living on his own for a year had affected P'resh's abilities to take orders. He had been in charge of himself for so long, that when the Weyrling Master told him what to do, P'resh sneered and said, "Who are you to order me around?!" His brash actions often found him extra chores to do. At first, the boy weyrlings looked to him, but as they realized that he didn't like them either, their admiration slipped slowly away. The ladies always tried to be his friend, and even though weyrlings don't have "relations," P'resh still had many self-proclaimed "girlfriends." He would always just smirk and roll his eyes.
As time progressed over the year and a half it takes for a weyrling to become a full rider, P'resh found that taking orders and not talking back was often much easier than extra chores (which cut into his sitting-around time), and so he decided to just do as he was told. He knew that someday he would be the one giving the orders, and so this little bit of tribulation that was occuring now was just training for that day.
P'resh is now a Wingsecond, and he knows he'll be a Wingleader someday soon. He enjoys working with his group, and they have become as tight-knit as they can be with such an ass in the group. The way there was when P'resh gained his horrible reputation for rudeness. He took a lot of chances, stepped on a lot of toes, and said some really horrible things to get where he is. The goal he is currently working toward is getting Kaunth and himself in tip top shape for the next gold flight, be it the Senior gold or the junior. Either is okay with him...although Kaunth likes the junior queen, Rylonith, more, and P'resh is pretty sweet on Revonna. He thinks she's pretty, and she has a personality to rival his own...
He grew up in the Weyr, which is obviously on the Southern continent, and before he Impressed, he went out on his own to find a fire lizard clutch. He had seen the things flying around, and he wanted a mini-dragon for himself. He set out with naught but a pocket full of sweetrolls and a container of water.
He had started out early in the morning (unbeknownst to the Candidate Master, the poor man), and has walked along the beach until well after noon. At about his sixth hour of trekking, he heard a light humming noise ahead, about half a dragonlength, and ran to find the source. Having been raised in the weyr, he kenw the sound of a hatching, and this sound like a tiny one.
Upon his arrival at the clutch, several tiny bronzes and a gold glanced at him, but continued their humming. The first egg cracked, and a tiny green poked her head out. For once in his life, he decided not to be too picky, and he started to put bites of his sweetrolls in her mouth. While he was wishing he had brought some meat, he realized that in his haste to leave the weyr, he had also picked up a couple of meat rolls. He shoved tiny bites of meatrolls into the green's mouth, wanting to make the three meatrolls last a bit longer.
After a good fifteen minutes of lizard-feeding, the tiny green crooned at him, and fell asleep in his lap. This afforded him moment of rest, as well as a large feeling of love in his heart. He looked down at the chartreuse being, and grinned. "I think your name will be Raaton, you spoiled brat."
With that, he picked up his green, cradled her in his tanned arms, and walked back to the Weyr, being very careful not to jostle her too badly.
Dragon Information
Name: Kaunth
Color: Bronze
Age: 11 turns
Description: Much like his rider, Kaunth is a smaller bronze with a larger ego. He has caused much male/female drama for his rider, and because of Kaunth's lusty behaviour, P'resh has many children.
Kaunth is a coppery sort of bronze, but his underbelly is almost a sandy color. His wings are also the sandy color, though a bit more metallic. His eyes most often whir a mix of deep blue self-contentment and purple lust.
Personality: Kaunth likes to prove the old adage "size doesn't matter" by beating other dragons in the games and sometimes even in green flights. He has a big personality and he is a "flirt," so to speak. One can often hear him crooning to other dragons, and he has been known to be so audacious as to croon sweetly at golds, even when they are not in flight. Usually when P'resh is in a scowling mood, so is Kaunth, though he doesn't know why. Draconic emotions being what they are, he generally just follows what his rider is, and is often a line somewhere on the graph of discontent or lust-filled, though there are times when the pair are happy. Those moments are spent in each othere's company, as Kaunth is the only thing P'resh truely loves.
History: Kaunth was born believing himself a superior dragon, despite his relatively small size. In his clutch, there was actually a brown about his size, bigger, if nothing else, but Kaunth didn't care, because his was the bronze hide. As he came slowly out of his shell (there was no rushing for Kaunth), his head made a hole in the top of the egg, and popped out. Next, his claws scraped the sides of the egg until it fell apart around him. He corrected himself, and stood up. Looking around, he did a double-take at Pareshan, and glided smoothly towards him.
Hello, P'resh. Kaunth has been waiting for you. he said, calmly. Greens and blues and browns were crashing into candidates around the tiny bronze dragon, but he paid no heed. Neither did P'resh, as he felt the horrible hunger of the baby dragon.
I am hungry, he said, sensing P'resh's discomfiture. Then came the warmth of Kaunth's mind pressing to P'resh's, and for one extreme moment, P'resh remembered all the happy things he had ever done or had happen to him. His heart started pounding, and P'resh felt dizzy. Then he came back to reality, and, without that warm fuzzy feeling dimmed in the least, said, "It's good to have you Kaunth. I love you."
I know. I love you too, P'resh. The new rider led his dragon off of the scorching sands and over to his first meal.
