How you heard of LW: I just EzBoard searched Dragonriders of Pern.
Rider Information
Name: Hamein (Hah-MAYN), honorific- H'mei (mei = may)
Gender: Male
Age/Birthday: 47 years (Impressed at age 14), Late Spring
Orientation: Bisexual
Location: Sodalis Weyr
Rank/Wing: Candidate Master/BloodChar Wing-Weyrleader J'ren
Standing: H'mei believes that the Holders and their people have simply fallen and need help back up. He thinks that they are all nice, they have just done what their human nature tells them to do- self-preserve. H'mei is often ridiculed for his beliefs, but to the naysayers, he says, "Will you fly Thread when it falls?"
Family: H'mei's father, a brown rider, died when H'mei was ten turns old. There is a dragon-sized hole in his heart, where his father once was. However, over the turns, H'mei has learned to live on. His mother, Saya (a greendrider) was always, well, a mother-figure to him, and loved him very much, even more after his father died. To her, H'mei was the only piece of her husband that she had left. H'mei is an only child.
His mother was already an older woman when Hamein was born, and they both believe that helped her to be a more stable woman and mother. She was in her thirty-ninth turn when he was born.
Pets: Brown fire-lizard named Tera, and a green fire lizard named Aparo.
Appearance: H'mei is a very solid looking person. He has dark brown, almost black, hair, and his eyes are almost as dark. He has a high forehead, which is becoming higher as his hair thins. Luckily, he comes from a strain of thick-haired people, so he will never, ever become truly bald. It also has many worry lines, from his days as Candidate master. He has a thin nose, and the end of his nose is barely thicker than the bridge of it. He has moderate eyebrows, which are not too thick, not too thin, and his eyes are shaped triangles, and they look very knowing...as if he sees through people. His lips are somewhat thin, and have smile wrinkles, also a reflection on his Candidate Master position. He maintains a clean-shaven face, with nothing but a small tuft of hair under his lower lip.
He is a lanky man, and he is very long legged. This often gives him a graceful appearance, and his grace is one of his good qualities. His arms are also long, but not really abnormally so. He has some muscles, which were gained after Impressing Sarith.

Personality: H'mei generally plays the nice guy, and he supposes that is why he is the Candidate master. He is very laid back, seldom angry, and easy to make laugh. His attitude makes the more nervous or shy Candidates feel more relaxed and at ease, and not so much like they have someone to impress (other than a Dragon, hahaha).
He likes to read old records, and this has made him a giant resource of knowledge. He can often be found late nights in the Records Room, brushing up on a bit of history. He loves to storytell, using what he has learned from the musty old skins.
There is not much that H'mei doesn't like, or at least, not think anything of. One thing he is not too fond of, however, is fake attitude. He believes (characteristically, of course) that honesty is the best policy. He doesn't like when people (especially his candidates) put on acts for other people. He shows this most oten when he tells his candidates, "Now, how do you expect a dragon to know if you are most like him if you are acting out for someone else?" He also expects his candidates to ask questions if they are confused or scared.
H'mei fears death most of all. This fear came belatedly, when his father died. Before that, he was a fearless young lad. What scared him most about his father's death was his brown dragon keening for the loss, and then, the sudden disappearance. H'mei found himself paralyzed that day, and even now, when a dragon keens, he feels it in his bones.
He is really good at making new people feel at home. He always has a smile on hand for the "youngins" of the Weyr, and a hug for a stranger if he or she needs it.
One thing H'mei is not about is throwing himself out. He is not "flamboyant" in his sexual desires, and many feel relieved after finding out as such. To him, it's all in the Weyr anyway. It truly doesn't have a matter to him.
History:Though H'mei grew up without a father, he had the love of his mother to fall back on in times of need, and he has gained that sort of personality from her. This is not to mean that he is a "mother Wherry," but he does enjoy his work with the candidates, who are often not as "brave" or "courageous" as they say they are. Often is the time that he has heard a teary story of homesickness, reject, or un-Impression. He hopes that he passes on his advice to willing ears and open minds, and hopes that the needful are satisfied.
H'mei was always a serious person, even as a teenager, when, as everyone knows, it can be hard to control emotions. Often times, he was accused of not being able to "take a jest." One such time, where he got in a bit of trouble for his temper, a certain young bronzerider was speaking of H'mei's mother in an unrespectful way. This lad had been talking about H'mei's mother for some time now, and finally, H'mei lost his temper. The young bronzerider found his nose bloody, though not broken. H'mei found himself with a great deal lot extra chores, and a berating from his mother.
"H'mei, don't you realize that if I am on that young man's mind often enough for him to think up things to say about me, that's well, rather flattering? It's okay, he's only a boy, where as I have lived for fifty turns now, and I haven't gotten here by punching every person who has said something rude about my loved ones," she told him. That calmed him down a lot, and went a long way in making him the person he is now. He found wisdom in that saying, about the flattery, and he uses it on the Candidates often. She also told him he was lucky that his dragon, now only nine months old, hadn't gone between from stress and worry. That definitely sobered him.
After being a wingrider for some time, he became friends with the former Candidate master. A few turns later, he retired from the rank to be a Searchrider, and he recommended H'mei to the spot. He assured the Weyrleaders that H'mei was dependable and nice, and could really be a helping hand to the candidates and Weyrleaders. At first, H'mei was aghast. He didn't want to have the responsibility of having children depend on him and come to him for comfort.
The now-Searchrider talked him into it, however, and told him storoes of how much fun it was ot work with the children, and after two seven-days of refusal, H'mei gave in. Since then, he has had much fun in the job, and he is now glad that he accepted the responsibilty.
H'mei also has two fire-lizards, a green (Aparo) and a brown (Tera). One day, he was visiting the beach, on a bit of a vacation in his off-time, and he heard a purr that sounded like dragons at a Hatching, only from far away. He looked around, and wlaked a bit, until he found a nest. It was situated about a half-dragonlength from the surf, just far enough so that the eggs would die from the coldness the water would impose upon them.
He ran up to the nest, and found a golden mother there. She hissed at him warningly, but he didn't leave. Instead, he pulled three meatrolls out of the tunic pocket that he had been planning to eat as midday-meal, and held them ready oin his hand. He had heard that fire-lizards, unlike dragons, Impress to whoever is nice enough to shove food in their mouths before the baby fire-lizards devour each other.
First to react to the low singing and Hatch was a bronze. H'mei didn't get to him fast enough, and the tiny figure hissed at and bit the dragonrider! H'mei, surprised, also missed a gold that hatched next. The third fire-lizard was a green, and he grabbed the baby and tucked her underneath his arm, into the crook of his elbow. He shoveled a piece of a meatroll down her throat, and suddenly, a hunger (similar to, though not exactly like, the hunger he has felt when he Impressed his blue, Sarith. Unbeknownst to him, a small brown had Hatched and was warbling at him. H'mei pulled the brown closer to him, and shoved a larger piece into its watering mouth. He turned back to the green, and put a bit in her mouth again. When he faced the brown, a new wave of hunger washed over him. He had Impressed the brown inadvertantly by giving him a bite! H'mei laughed aloud, and loudly, startling his new green a bit.
He wondered what their names were, and wondered if he named them. As he thought about that, he felt a sort of presence in his head, not quite at the same level as Sarith, but definitely there, nonetheless. The green was looking at him, eyes whirling green and red, and a word...actually, more of a picture...appeared in his head. The picture meant "Aparo," even though H'mei didn't know how he knew that. A second picture appeared, which meant "Tera."
At the end of his time, he was tired, and he hoped that the babies would fallow him back to Sodalis. He called Sarith, and told the dragon (who, during the entire excitement, had been napping, half in the water and half on the sand) that it was time to leave. In his mind, he projected the picture of the Weyr's bowl to the two lizards, and told them, to go there. He climbed upon Sarith, whose eyes were slowly whirling blue and green merriment, and gave the three dragons a pictuer of the Weyr bowl again.
Once he appeared in the bowl, he saw his newly aquired fire lizard friends there, and signed in relief. He went to pay respect ot the Weyrleader and Lady, and then took his dragon and lizards to his weyr, and to bed.
((Is it bad that most of my history is about the fire-lizards? Do I need to condense that?))
Dragon Information
Name: Sarith
Color: His hide is cornflower blue, and his belly and the leather of his wings are a deep sky blue. His claws are black-blue, as are the bone-skin of his wings. ((yeah, I'm going back to the Crayola days.))
Age: 33 turns
Description: Sarith is a larger blue, only a bit smaller than a brown. He is somewhat agile, but he real strength is...well, strength! He has a wide wing span, and a long tail.
Personality: Sarith himself is a solid dragon, and he is about as laid back as a dragon can get without being lazy. He enjoys laying in sun a lot, and he loves for H'mei to scratch his hide and give him a bath. Sarith likes fire lizards a lot, and he often will let his rider lay on the sands at the beach and simply let his tiny cousins wash and rinse his lovely hide. More often than not, his eyes whirl a content green-blue. Also, he is quite the flirt, often whirling those big facety eyes at cute greenriders and greens.
History:
Sarith was not the first, nor the last, to hatch. Rather, he was somewhere in between there, and at first, no one noticed his browny-mustard-yellow egg hatch. Most everyone's eyes were one a fine looking bronze hatchling, and very few noticed the blue. Hamein himself hadn't been watching the blue, and the first he noticed him was when the hungry dragonet crooned in his direction from a third of a dragonlength away, and said to him, Please, pay attention to me. I need you.
At first, Hamein thought it was the bronze talking to him, and he was surprised. But as he saw the small bronze stroll up to another lad, he adopted a confused look and glanced back at the eggs. He spotted the the sapphire, glisteny dragonet stumbling in his direction. Please, here I am, right here, the blue dragonet said again to H'mei. This time, H'mei ran up to his dragonet, and stood back for a moment. "Are you for me?" he asked, incredulously.
Yes. I'm hungry, and my name is Sarith, said back the little dragon.
H'mei dropped to his knees and hugged the dragon, who crooned back at him. Finally, he had done his father's memory well. Opening his eyes, he saw Sarith's eyes wavering a mix of blue content and red distress. H'mei stood up, grinned goofily down at Sarith, and led him off the sands for some good food.
