Apri’s eyes grew wide as Killian sat straight up and looked at her with the strangest look on his face. Returning the look with one of complete confusement, she found herself blushing deeply as he spoke of it not being possible that she had never swam. Watching him stand, however, surprise was now on her face as her emotions flashed from one to another confusing her as much as the man before her now was.
At his mention of a harper being lost for words, she couldn’t help but giggle at the obviously shocked man. She hadn’t thought it was so strange that she could not swim… but then again she hadn’t grown up with so many beaches around either. On the contrary she’d never been to one till their trip here.
Seeing his demand for the ocean, she stood, still laughing at him, but did not move any farther as he dropped his hand and started talking to himself. When the question was directed to Apri again, she shook her head a grin on her face. Killian was just being funny now.
“No… I’ve never gone swimming before nor have I yet found the courage to get my feet wet in it… I’ve walked the beaches often while we were here, but always staying on the dry sand…”

Killian just gaped at her, blinking foolishly again before he turned his back on her throwing his arms into the air in utter disbelief. “How!” was all he said before he took a few more steps toward the ocean taking off his coat and pulling out a long strip of cloth he used to tie his sleeves up before he turned back to her hands on hips. “Well you heard me. Ocean now.” He pointed again taping his foot before dropping it again. “You are going to get your feet wet before we leave this island and now is as good a time as any.” He shook his head continuing to talk to himself, “haven’t even gotten her feet wet… we’ve been here for how long now… sheesh…”
He shook his head, scrutinized her again and turning around through his hands up again… words he was completely lost for words. He had grown up on an island sure so it was obvious that everyone here new how to swim… it had just never dawned on him that others wouldn’t know how too. He marched right down the edge of the water where its highest point as it lapped at the beach was inches from his feet before he stopped hands on hips again before he turned back to her, “well?”

Apri’s smile as she realized just what was going on was a genuine one, similar to that of a child who finally after waiting for what seemed forever, got there wish. Running forward a few steps she stopped suddenly and lifted her foot to take off her slipper. Tilting dangerously, she got if off just in time to catch herself and take off the next. Dropping them where she stood, she hurried up to where Killian was standing only to stop a step behind him.
Standing on her tip-toes, even though nothing obstructed her view of the water, she looked at it cautiously before lowering herself back down again her smile quickly fading.
“Killian… Mo…Quintak always said to stay away from the water… Or it would swallow me up…” a warmth warmed her face again, knowing now that she was older, it was probably something her mother had said to keep her safe. She couldn’t help but feel, however, that old fear she had always gotten just before she was brave enough to try dipping her feet in on her own. That was why she had not yet done it here… those simple words of her mother coming back again.

Killian smiled as he heard her come up be hind him, he was trying to push his own mix feelings to the back of his mind, focusing on his disbelief and so over exaggerating his reaction. But she did not pas him and move into the water, didn’t even come up next to him as she stopped behind him.
He turned around arching an eyebrow at her until she spoke at which point his face relaxed in an understanding smile similar to those he gave Corana when she mentioned some little superstition he had to set straight. “Apricus I have gone swimming everyday since before I could walk and it has never swallowed me up…” well that wasn’t exactly true… he still had nightmares… those rocks and branches like teeth, that black bottomless water like a throat waiting to swallow him…
He stiffened only slightly but continued to smile, “um… well… if you want I could go in first.” He thrust his chest out but did not move closer to the water, he could remember the rain the ocean the tree… He breathed a shuttering breath and blushed as he realized what that must have sounded like. “But… but you have to promise that you will come in too!” he shook his finger at her and took another breath but still didn’t move.
The silance stretched on before he closed his eyes and taking another deep breath and holding it he took one step and then another toward the ocean. Only thing was the water had gone out and was just now coming in. he had relaxed realizing that he had to move further in when a small wave washed over his ankles, it was warm but it maid him jump and stiffen none the less. He turned back the Apricus the blood gone from his face as he smiled a bit stiffly, “see… I’m still here… your turn.”

Nodding as he waggled a finger at her for a promise, she stood holding her breath as Killian followed the water out a few steps, stopping just as the water stopped and began coming back. Seeing him jump, Apri found herself jumping with him as if she expected him to suddenly disappear. He remained there, however, and she smiled as he turned back to her, the strange light from the moon hiding his paleness well.
“My turn… right…” she said taking a breath of her own though her hesitation was for completely different reasons, much more childish. Waiting for the water to leave once again, she quickly stepped up to stand next to Killian. As soon as the water hesitated, however, so did she. Seeing it coming back again she let out a yelp and ran back to the dry sand before it could get her.
Reaching it she spun around and glared at the moving mass even as a laugh escaped her lips. “Oh… I don’t know about this…”

The blind man relaxed a bit more as the water moved out again making him feel as though he was sinking a good quarter of an inch. It had been so long but he was starting to remember the good times in the ocean. This was very different after all, it wasn’t raining, he was walking and not falling… no comparison.
But then Apricus yelped and he jumped again “what happened?!” he turned his head around but then realized what had happened and began to laugh, now much more relaxed, as he crossed his arms over his chest and taped his foot again, making the water splash up to his calves as it retreated again. “now, now Apricus here I am standing in the water and you won’t even come keep me company?” he tisked shaking his head
“Didn’t I promise that I wouldn’t let anything hurt you? Well to go with that I will promise that the water with not swallow you up.” He held out a hand to her motioning for her to come in smiling in that reassuring way as the water came back to play around his ankles.

Watching Killian tap his foot as if she were in trouble, Apri blushed but did not move closer to the water. At his promise, she looked back down to the water then up to the man again. Looking down, she took a step onto the wet sand again after the water retreated. She jumped back again, however, as it returned again to wet the sand.
“Oh but its so pretty from here…” she said with an almost playful smile. She knew she was being silly about this fear, but she couldn’t manage to get rid of that hesitation. Watching the water once again wrap around Killian’s ankles, she looked down to her own dry legs wondering what it felt like but still not stepping in.

Killian crossed his arms again scrutinizing her before he through his hands back into the air has he had done before and waited deeper into the water. It was to his calves when he stopped even if the water retreated he would still be in it. There he turned around scrutinized her again, crossed his arms and sat down. The water reached his chest and he put his nose in the air taping his arm with is fingers as he had been taping his foot.
“Fine then… if you don’t want to come it then I’m not leavening until you do.” With the way he was acting the word childish would be an understatement but it was all in good fun as he couldn’t stop a smile as he looked back to her and stretched his legs out splashing his arms in the water. “it shore is warm in here… a bit lonely… but warm…” he sighed over dramatic before he began to sing a slow winy song, “I’m all alone…… with no body here….. Beside ME…….”

This time it was Apri’s turn to throw her hands up in exasperation as Killian sat down in the water and began to sing in the most dreadful voice. If for nothing else, Apri would go into the water to stop it as soon as possible.
“Oh you big baby…” she said under her breath as she turned around and took a few steps farther onto the dry sand.
Turning around, she took a deep breath and as the water retreated she ran for it at a full sprint so that she would not be able to stop or turn in time to run away once it came back. Letting out a yelp as the water came for her she jumped only to enter the water in a splash. Slipping, she too found herself sitting in the wet sand as the water moved around her, her long skirt thoroughly soaked.
“ooo this is warm…” she said with another laugh.

Killian crossed his arms and stuck his tong out at Apricus, acting even more like the baby, before he turned his head a way and started singing completely out of tune again. He had to stop however at the sound of splashing water closing his mouth and bringing his hands up to block his face incase the water came at him.
Killian laughed outright at Apricus’s “ooo” brining his hands down to grin evilly at her, “told you so! And now I’m not alone and can stop singing… to be honest I was hoping you would come in just to stop me… that was starting to hurt my ears.” He laughed again and made to stand up only to be knocked forward as a small wave contacted with his back. It wasn’t strong enough to through him forward but as he was not expecting it he did stumble a bit and ended up over compensating and sitting back down, “ok… I guess I won’t get up after all…”

Apri simply smiled at Killian, a bare whisper of a chuckle leaving her lips as she turned her eyes to the water. The surface reflected the moon, but that was soon whisked away by another wave. Running her hands thru it, she let out a soft ‘eep’ as the water attempted to move up her skirt.
Pulling her skirt beneath her legs, she looked back at Killian as if to make sure he had not seen anything. Turning her head to face out to see, she smiled as the wind swept her the few loose strands of her hair back. A glance back toward Killian would have showed a mischievous glint in her eyes if he could have seen anything. As it was he couldn’t and Apri, without too much thought, tossed a handful of water his way.

Killian was just relaxing in the happier memories of the past and thinking of all the new ones he could make with Apricus when it hit him… he went flashing back, the rain on his face, lighting cutting through the darkness just enough to allow him to see the ocean coming to meet him as he fell his stomach lurching at the rate of the fall. In his mind his entire body stung as again thousands of cuts where ripped open at once.
Physically Killian brought his arms up to cover his face, reenacting that night just as he was reliving it in his mind. It was like the many nightmares that still plagued him 12 turns latter. Only he wasn’t sleeping as he reeled turning around in the water and trying to catch himself only to fall fully into the water. He cried out is more in fear though it could be confused for surprise. He was dripping all over as he sat back up on his knees his arms wrapped tightly around him. Its only a dream… a night mare… it was a long time ago… he chept telling himself though this wasn’t a dream he really was wet as the sea breas blew through his wet hair cooling his skin.
But it wasn’t raining… and he wasn’t alone. “Apricus…” he said the name out loud using it as an anchor brining him back to this place and this time. He remembered all of the effort he had gone through to get her here to make her happy, she was just playing… like a child splashing him… well unlike her he was raised on the beach.
An evil smile split across his face as he turned his head to face over his shoulder at her with a high pitched “hehehe.” He cupped both of his hands into the water and flung it back at her.

There was something there… something about the way Killian had jumped… but Apri couldn’t place her finger on it. Even so, her face paled as she wondered if perhaps she had made a mistake as he came up out of the water again to hug himself. Hearing her name, she rolled onto her knees ready to get up and go if he should ask her. She had done something wrong hadn’t she? Why did she have to do it now? Why this night?
A strange smile, however, was turned upon her rather than a request for her to go. Not sure if she should have been relieved or not as a child-like laughter came from his lips. Spotting the sparkle in the air that was the sign of water in that moon-lit night, Apri threw up her arms to hide her face. Little good it did her, however, and she soon found her shirt spattered with water droplets.
Laughing she flung another handful of water toward him, she stood to run only to find her skirt heavy with water and trying to drag her down. Bending over quickly she gathered a good deal of it in her hands and lifted it above the level of the water before sprinting down the beach out of reach of Killian’s throw.

Killian threw another handful at her just to be hit again by anther of hers “hey!” but he was laughing as he too tried to stand his pants, like two skirts weighing him down. He fell down again, and though he couldn’t know he did the same thing Apricus was doing and gathered up the large pleated pants to chase after her. “Hey not fair! I can’t see where you’re going!” but he was smiling and he could hear her.
The sound of her foot steps in the diamond sand was fait in comparison to the sound of the ocean and his own splashing but Killians ears where keener then most and just as he was leaving the water he dropped his pant legs to get one more hand full of water and sling it at her. “ooohhh Apricus!!” he called out in a sing song voice holding still and listening for any of her movements, “where are yoooouuuu!!”

A thought came to Apri and she came to a sudden halt in the ankle deep water. He couldn’t see her… he had to chase her by hearing her. Smiling, she realized that if he couldn’t hear her, he couldn’t catch her. Her suspicion was confirmed as he stopped to, calling out playfully to know where she was.
Wondering for a moment how on earth she was going to be quieter than the gentle whisper of the waves upon the shore, she slowly picked up a foot to place it down ever so gently. Carefully she pulled herself away from the water until she was where she could stand on the sand whenever the water left. Each time the waves moved back, she took another careful step until Killian turned away from her.
Before she had time to stop and think about what it was she was about to do, the woman threw her body into his attempting to knock him down into the wet sand. If it had been any other man she would have never considered the idea, but with Killian, the man she had learned to trust above all other people in the world, she found herself comfortable for the first time since her childhood here in the moonlight.
