Galeden walked down to the stable with a purpose. One of the stable hands had informed him that a runner was ill. He, knowing that his stable's reputation would be at stake if it was serious walked down to the stable himself. There he was greeted with reapectful expressions of the stable personel. "We need another beastcrafter down here and place this runner in the quarentine stable. I don't know if this can be passed through to the others but I'd rather be safe. Best that we seperate him out." Galeden looked aty the horse. To him he seemed dehydrated but it was up to the beastcrafters what should be done with him. Galeden looked inot the brown eyes of the gray runner and placed a hand on the animals neck ever so calmly. "Bring him some warm water."
This was one of his special runners, as he recalled. One of his breeding stock, for his new type that he was developing. These runners would be able to run across the sands of the desert without stumbling adn faster than any other runners. At least that was his hope. It was a present for Eslana's uncle. the Lord Holder of Igen. He at least would appreciate such a gift. Though Galeden was beggining to wonder, in making a physically more agile runner had they made something that was less resistant to illness or had he runner simply been under the weather for a while before anyone noticed, either way he should have left this up to the beate=craft, but he always felt responsible for his runners.

Lewanna headed down to the stables as fast as her leg would allow, one of the drudges had told her that one of the runners was sick. She turned a corner a little too swiftly and threw herself off balance, she quickly shifted her pack to the opposite shoulder and regained her balance. Soon the stable was in view and she smiled. She was the first apprentice here. She would prove to her father that she was able to become a BeastCrafter, crippled leg or not.
She stopped and composed herself before she walked into the stables, it would not do to upset the stable hands. She walked in and froze, maybe she was mistaken, maybe no apprentices had come because a Journeyman was already there... Then she noticed that he did not have the BeastCraft knots on his shoulder and inwardly sighed. She had beat the others afterall.
She walked up to him and saw the poor runner, her trained eyes told her that indeed this animal was sick. Though sick with dehydration or something else she did not know, not without checking it out at least. She nodded at the man though soon her attention was back on the animal. She placed her pack on the floor and turned to the man, "Is this your runner?"

The Lord Holder turned to see an apprentice Beastcrafter walk in. "Yes all the runners here are mine, my dear. " No one would guess that the Lord Holder would be down checkiing on his runners and ahappen across an ill one. "You wouldn't happen to know where they keep the blankets down here would you?" He asked knowing that he was going to be in trouble with his advisors for missing a meeting about the Gather. He wanted them to invite all the Lord and Lady holders but they seemed heitant to invite Lord dorin, for the obvious reasons. He wanted the man to come... he would play a nice game of dares with the man. This would be his turn to host the conclave and it was about time they all came to an agreement on the man. Galeden would hold up a stern front. He would not be pushed around.
If he had had a choice as a child he would have become a beastcrafter. His brother should have had the Lordship and then none of this would be his responsibility. Now that his brother was dead along with his father he had no choice. Looking down once more at the beautiful runner... it was a color blacker than ink and it was obviously going to stay here if it had become ill... perhaps Galeden would keep the stallion as his. Looking back at the young women he guessed she did not know whom he was, but he might as well be more polite. "May I ask your name apprentice beastcrafter? I'd rather call you by your name than just say beastcrafter."

She ran her hand over the runner's beautiful hide as she lifted it's lips to check on the teeth and gums, "Lewanna." She moved on to the runner's ears and eyes continuously , "And you are?" She kept her eyes on the runner partly because she was following the mandatory checklist and partly because she was too shy to actually look him in the eye. "And yes I know where the blankets are stored, if you'll wait here I'll go get some." As she turned she got a glance of him and slightly blushed, though her head was turned so that only the drudges saw. 'He's attractive.'
She searched through the blankets trying to find the warmest ones. "He must be important judging by his clothing. I wonder who he is." She gathered the blankets and shook her head, "Who am I kidding. He would never pay attention to me, even if I didn't have a crippled leg." She walked back toward the runner and the gentleman with her awkward gait.

Galeden upon hearing her name smiled. Lewanna, a very pretty name. He would have to comit it to memory. When next he saw the beastcrafter in charge he would mention her. "Of cours, Lewanna." He waited with the runner speaking softly in its ear. His eyes fell on the ebony head with tenderness. These were his if anything was truly his, it would be these runners. "Get well my lord among runners... get well." He said as if the runner would actually understand him.
When the beastcrafter returned he immediately went to work covering the animal in the blankets and using the warm water the drudges had cbrought he tried to get the animal to drink though it refused to lift its head. He would need the tubes. "We need to get the tubes down his throat now... hes going to be dehydrated and then he'll never come back to us." Galeden figured the young woman knew what he meant as he reached for the tubes that he had another drudge bring him.
As he began to place the tube down the runners esophagus he answered her question, "I'm Galeden." He didn't think it was necessary to add, Lord Holder of Keroon. It seemed pretty common knowledge that he was the Lord Holder, besides he really wasn't the type to go around flaunting his title. Most people thought him a soft ruler but that was because he was compassionate. The young woman seemed to know what she was doing. "Lewanna would you mind if I made you caretaker for this runner...I can't send all day and night with him. He will be your only task until he is well. I'm going to check in as much as possible."
Then to the drudges that worked int he stable he commented. "This stable is now quarentined. No horses in here are to come out until we are sure what caused this sudden illness. I don't want all the runners ill. Especially not right before a Gather." He had a few sevendays before then but he really loved the winter races. They were more about which runners could do well on the hard or muddy turf. It really depended on the Hold, but here he would guess it would be muddy.

Lewanna helped him to get the liquid down the runner's throat and then went back over the blankets, making sure that the beast was fully covered. At hearing his name she paused for a minute and then continued with her work. She went over the stall and checked on the hay to make sure that everything was fresh. Lewanna handed a bucket to a drudge and asked them to bring her some warm water as the runner shouldn't be drinking cold water when it was ill.
She stood up and looked at him with wide eyes, "Caretaker?" A million thoughts ran through her head of all the things she had to do. But then her father's face came into mind and how proud he would be to learn that the Lord Holder personally asked his daughter to be the sole caretaker of one of his runners. She curtsided as best she could and replied, "I would be honored Lord Galeden." A soft blush came to her cheeks as the realization hit her, that she was getting a job fit for a journeyman, not an apprentice. A rare smile blossomed on her face as she curtsied again, "I would be deeply honored Lord."
