L'kel wiped his dark brow free of sweat, it seemed like every day was hotter than the last to him. He observed the line of dragons in front of him, making mental notes of who to watch during drills today. They stood towards the edge of the bowl rim, overlooking the land surrounding Sodalis. He looked from J'ren to D'lian and began to inspect safety straps. After they were all deemed secure in his eyes he nodded to J'ren and stepped back, next to Mnemozyth, waiting for the signal to mount up.
He and his Bronze had been training well and flying regularily so he wasn't anxious about this training sessions, but it was going to be a flaming killer, if he did say so himself. He took pride in that fact. With the games leering, he wanted to make sure his Wing would be in top form. Many of the weaker Wingriders would have trouble with today's schedule, which included, lots of sprint flying, agility and formation drills as well as other nice tactical, fitness and skill practicies. It had been a carefully constructed pratice, and one that would probably repeat itself in the next weeks. He had, with the other leader's of their Wing, gone to great lanegths to perfect their training regime. Only the best and fittest would fully succeed.
He would not tolerate anyone slackers and anyone doing less then their hardest could eaily be transfered to a less competitive Wing. This was the top Wing, the Weyrleader's Wing, and today his Wingriders would have a chance to prove they were worthy of it. Ready Zyth? As always, Mine.

"Shard it! By the Egg its cold! Naraleth!" The green continued to pull Morelia's blankets off of her bed. Morelia jumped out of bed so fast she looked about ten turns old. "You are one crazy green. What time is it anyhow?" We have drills today Morelia... "Thanks for reminding me last night before I had a little too much wine... and didn't get much sleep." Its your own fault for not sleeping in the bed. "I don't get to have any fun lately and this just ruined a wonderful evening..." Berelia would have liked to see you yesterday. I know... but he was sooooo cute. Have it your way slut. You are so much better...how many browns and blues is it your flirting with now? I'm a tease thats different. By now Morelia was fully dressed a smile on her face and a cup of hot klah in her hand. "Yes I had forgotten. You only let one or two fly you after flirting shamelessly with them. I'm usually surprised at your choices." I am suprised at yours. What was so great about last nights? He was fifteen turns younger than me, very attractive and wanted a light one night affair just like me. To top it off he's from Lateo which means I won't have to see him again.
Morelia checked her riding straps before mounting the green who still didn't understand her rider. "Ready to kick some younger rider ass..." We work harder than any of the other greens in our wing...thats certain. I'll be flying as good as ever with all the workouts we have been doing.
With that they flew to the meeting point at the Bowl. Morelia dismounted and stood ready for inspection. Her light brown hair was up and out of her face and blue eyes seemed to be concentrating on her dragon and nothing else. Her leathers were all on the right place as were her riding straps. She wouldn't fail inspections which was usual.
She walked over to the Weyrleader and his seconds. "Good morning,J'ren, D'lian, L'kel. Good to see we are all on time today." She noticed that no one else had arrived and decided to check in with them. Her white smile flashing in the morning sunlight. Morelia was not about to flirt with the bronzers but she did like to say hello to people in the morning. Morelia was just as happy that no women had shown up yet. Women were annoying and she didn't really care for green rider companionship. Naraleth agreed,We are good wingriders. As long as the young ones realize we are still in physical shape and more experienced we won't have to be angry with them. Quite right...but they are sure to be just as haughty as these Bronze rider in front of us. She wasn't sure how hard practice would be that day but she had a bad feeling about it from the way L'kel looked. Overly determined.

Sanura sighed as she tightened various buckles and straps on her beloved dragon, the blue waiting patiently for the dark-haired woman to finish her chore. Muttering things underneath her breath about early mornings and ‘company’ staying too late, the Weyrsinger let a grin curve her pink lips as she caught sight of E’lar’s brown winging off for his sweeprides. It was worth it. Come love, we will be late if you keep staring like that. Aramith warned, nudging his rider gently with the tip of his nose. Breaking from her reverie, the girl quickly belted the last clasp and stepped lightly onto the dragon’s outstretched foreleg, swinging between the neckridges and settling herself. Sanura had dressed for flight and fight that day, from her flying goggles strapped to her dragon’s harness to the tough wherhide boots that clad her feet. Her hair was pulled up tightly away from her face, not even a stand of chocolate brown escaping the tie. Taking the fighting straps tightly in hand, she gave her beloved the signal, and the blue leapt from his ledge to land in the bowl alongside his brothers and sisters.
Swinging down to stand beside her dragon, the girl could see one of her wingmtes greeting their leaders rather brightly, and Sanura snorted. If only she could be that happy in the mornings….well, it wasn’t to be. She was soooooo not a morning person. Stifling a yawn, the blue rider awaited the day’s drills, noting the very serious looks J’ren, L’kel, and D’lian seemed to have. That wasn’t a very good sign at all. The singer wasn’t the best at drills, but then again she wasn’t the worst either. Her and Aramith were a very well-matched pair, neither poor nor outstanding in their performance. Her skill was in song, and his in inspiration. They did not love the battle, but then again….neither did they hate it.
She stood rigidly as L’kel looked over her bonded’s straps, feeling a sense of one milestone overcome as he went away with an approval of her harness. One swirling blue eye found her, and the wingrider winked at the most beloved male in her life. One thing down, my love, now only the rest of the drills to go. Somehow, San, that doesn’t cheer me up. Aramith replied, but his mindvoice was laced in humor. They both knew they would do decently in their performance, even if they weren’t going to win any medals with it. Grinning, her cobalt gaze focused on J’ren, waiting on his next instruction.

L'kel nodded as was courteous to Green rider Morelia, but it was only a small inclination of the head. He wasn't really of the real world right now, he was in his own special place, where him, his dragon and his Wing were the only things that existed. Menmozyth of course, was a little less serious, C'mon Mine. Its only drills. Lighten up a little won't you? Zyth...i don't understand. How can you always be so calm.
His bronze snorted in reply and a few seconds of silence went by. You know who is looking good today...Naraleth. Oh honestly Zyth...are you purposefully trying to set me off. She's a green! And older then you as well.Well, if you want Revonna then practice on some Greens would do you any harm. Besides, you need some fun. The dark rider didn't answer.
He glanced at each riders face, his eyes resting on Sanura momentarily, she was an interesting one, a female Blue rider. Naturlly, he wasn't sure he approved, but she was intriguing nonetheless. In his Wing book where he wrote down personal thoughts on his Wing he had scribbled, 'Better harper then rider. Blast it all!' But then. he was having a bad day, and didn't have an appreciation for the arts on a good one.
Glancing at the Wingleader, he signaled for the Wing to mount up. A, carefully practiced, uniform movement of riderss climbing to the the top of their dragons was initiated. Once a few moments passed and all riders were on the weyrmates, he mounted Mnemoxyth himself. Hopeully, Dlian had done the same, the Weyrleader would most likely be thast last up as was his position. L'kel took only a couple mounds to mount his latge Bronze, gfor as big as Zyth was, he was a giant himself. He scooted into a comftorable position on the harnesses and waited for J'ren.

After greeting the Bronzes she didn't expect much, so when L'kel merely nodded offhandedly at her, she wasn't phased. Her lithe form moved back towards her waiting green. Naraleth was in good spirits that day though Morelia knew that in a few days the green would be as cantankerous as a female feline in heat.
Mounting the green only took Morelia a moment. Turns of practice made everything so effortless. Morelia knew how to mount her dragon faster than any youngling. It was the reason she was in this wing. She was one of the Weyrs best, certainly one of the best green riders. She knew her duty and followed orders well. Plus she prided herself on never getting involved with a wingmate and all the issues that would cause.
Naraleth watched the wingleaders intensely, not wanting to miss a cue that would get them an advantage to taking off. Morelia double checked her own straps as usual. She was fine, but it always made her feel better to double check. She would hate to fall off of her own dragon... how humiliating would that be.

J'ren popped his knuckles and waited, his jaw set. He barely acknowledged the green and blue riders... His thoughts were else where. Mainly with the new Lateo Weyrleader... 'By Faranth...' His eyes trailed to his second... 'Why couldn't he have flown that blasted child's gold? A child Weyrwoman... and now a smokeless weyrling for Weyrleader... he isn't fit to even be Wingleader.' The old man wasn't angry at D'lian... but disappointed yes. It took a moment to realize that Bloodchar was looking to him to give the order to take off... he pumped his arm in the traditional manner and grabbed for straps as the air all around him became a flurry of blues, browns, and greens. {i]Tell L'kel to relay the flight plan once everyone has evened out...[/i]

L'kel and Menmozyth rose steadily into the air, until they were at a good height. He waited for the wing to steady themselves. Right then, Zyth. Orders are: Spread into proper V formation. Bronzes center to Greens on the far ends. Make it quick and precise. Once in order, Menozyth will bugle once. This is the signal to sprint at 95% Blue speed to the far mountains. Once we are back in order there. We will repeat until it is flawless. His bronze dutifully relayed the orders and waited for agknowledgement. He often used Blue's speed as the set, for they were towards the middle. Greens were great sprinters, Browns great at distance. Bronzes were great at both of course.
Ok Zyth lets go! The huge Bronze let a loud bugle out into the air. Without hesistation they sped off.

Morelia had Naraleth place herself in a good position on the outer edge of the wing. Naraleth was experienced enough to be one of the outer riders. Sometimes it was harder to be so, because you were responsible for keeping the wing in the shape that it had started in. I hate being put in the back... I'm faster then those pesky blues and browns. we are doing what is best for the wing.... As if the wing cares whats best for me....they just want to see us greens drop out from the strenuous tasks the Bronzers have obviously put in place. Naraleth...don't get angry, we have work to do. Shells I hate having wing practice when your in a testy mood. Testy? Testy!? I think your the one being an ungrateful rider...and accepting being put in the back. I tell you I hate rankers sometimes!
This is our chance to prove we are the best green team in the wing... you wouldn't want to give that up. No Naraleth wouldn't, she had been workign too hard. The dragon tried to concentrate a little, but Faranth knew that wouldn't last long with Naraleths short attention span. Morelia was glad they had been working out, hours a day, preparing for this. She was certain this drill was meant to find the weak links in the wing... and rightly so, before the games. Her mind concentrated on the task at hand as they waited for the dragons in front of them to begin moving. 95% Blue speed was slow for a green, not a sprint anyway...the browns were no doubt having trouble with it though.

Aramith held out a considerate foreleg as J’ren gave the signal for riders up, which his lady stepped gracefully onto and swung up upon his back smoothly. Rising into the air along with his wingmates, the blue settled into his regular spot between the browns and greens, beating his wings slowly to hold his position. Sanura frowned lightly as her beloved relayed the instructions he received from Mnemozyth, allowing her cobalt gaze to rake over the path they would be flying. Nodding, she tightened her gloved hands around the leathers that circled her dragon’s muscled chest, her heart beginning to beat faster as she focused on what was ahead. Sounds good to me, love. Are you ready? She asked her bonded, slapping him affectionately on the neck.
Of course, San. Blue speed would be my speciality. Aramith remarked dryly. That earned a chuckle from his rider, who then ran one gentle hand down his suede hide. Hearing a loud bugle from the Wingsecond, the dark-haired woman leaned down over her dragon’s neck. Sprinting forward along with the rest of those in his wing, the blue was careful to hold his position as they darted towards the mountains. The Weyrsinger held tightly to her straps as they cut through the air, concentrating tightly on staying balanced between the neckridges and watching carefully that her beloved did not loose his place.

Mnemozyth and L'kel fleq at about 55% to 60% speed. The speed was made even easier by being in the center. They were still going fairly fast however, he kept looking behind him, as Zyth sped ahead, to make sure everyone was in formation. They all looked quite good. He almost did a double take at Naraleth and her rider. Zyth was right, they were looking good, excpet not in the way his bronze meant. They were obviously in good shape, of course, being towards the older end, they would hav to be the very best.
He and Zyth, after J'ren were the first to make it to the mountains. After a small pause his bronze bugled again, signaly the second sprint, back to where they started from. They would do this a few times before splittingoff into color specific activites. browns would do some long distance trecks and greens some agility sprints etc. He just hoped he didn't catch any of the browns popping between from time to time to hurry along their set track. Mind you, some of those slacking, dimglows wouldn't be with them for the games.

Naraleth was feeling much better than her rider that morning. She was glad Morelia had forced them to do strength exercises every day. Her own father did not stop wingriding till he was 72 Turns. It was something to think about ...she still had time to enjoy dragonriding. The better shape she and Naraleth were in the longer they would be part of their wing. Of course Naraleth and Morelia loved flying anyway and laziness was disgusting to them. All those slackers would never catch Naraleth when she flew in a few sevendays. Morelia ran her hand delicately along the green's gleaming shoulder. These sprints were fun as far as NAra was concerned. They were on the outside on purpose, Naraleth hated being stuck intbetween slow pokes and she was not about to let the distance get to her after all the training she had been through. Morelia was a workaholic in a bad way. It was worse since her father died and she could not seem to get herself back to the way she had been. Naraleth knew something was troubling Morelia but could not press her about it. Age had to do with it. Morelia had always liked being young. Then there was her lack of relationships...actually losing interest in men most of the time unless it would be very uncomplicated and she was not sober. The brunette seemed to be avoiding going to the creche somedays...only on the bad days. Naraleth was convinced that they had to prove themselves, which would help Morelia with her issues. At least the dragon hoped so, not that Nara thought to far in advance, but she was increasingly worried with Morelia's behavioral changes. Morelia could not wait till this increasingly boring drill was over.

L'kel was having a great time! For once he was getting to lead the drills. J'ren seemed lso tin his own thoughts. This would be a great chance to prove himself. Once the group reached the mountains yet again he signaled to stop and Mnemozyth trumpeted the stop sequence as well. He would now divide the colors up for specialized drills to be lead by a color leader he would choose for today.
Ok Zyth here is the second set of instructions to send out: Attention! All Green dragons, your leader for today will be Morelia of Green Naraleth. You will be working on agility sprints. You will be required to fly at your fastest while navigating around various landmarks on the ground. Report to Morelia of green Naraleth. All Blue Dragons, Your leader for today is Sanura of Blue Aramith. You will be working on formation flying. You will be required to fly at various speeds and in various directions while keeping tight formation and changing them on command of your leader. Report to Sanura of Blue Aramith. All Brown dragons, your leader for today will be T'man of Brown Doth. You will be doing long distance flying on a set track surrounding the Weyr. Report to T'man of Brown Doth. Bronzes will be supervising. The three Bronzes would be supervising the three group's activities as well as participating.

Morelia was suprised at the message Naraleth relayed ot her, but she did not let it show on her face. alright Naraleth. Lets get these greens in hand. We need all the greens to seperate from the group moving below the others and to the right. On my signal. Morelia had her arm up and then dropped it, the signall for all the greens to seperate from the group. All of them seemed to follow that instruction. Good. Now that we have more space. Everyone in wing formation. We are going to be doing agility trainging. Naraleth show them what I want to see.
Naraleth relayed everything well. She was doing really well today. Morelia herself had taken charge much more easily than she had thought. It wasn't long till she was leading the other greens in manuevers that no blue or brown could hope to achieve. The sun seemed to shine dazzlingly off of the green hides. Morelia was pleased so far. A few of the greens seemed to have been slacking off on their free time and were falling behind a bit. Sometimes the larger greens had trouble wiht the agility but were better with sprinting due to their slighlty larger wingspan.

L'kel had picked the leaders for reasons, not just randomly. First of all Morelia, not only did she earn it by the work she and her dragon , but she had helped him in a rather embarrassing situation before and hated being in debt to a green rider. He reasoned that giving her this honor would ease his guilt and make them even. Then he could go back to his usual airy indifference to her color.
Sanura had beeen to test her, to see if she really deserved to be in the top, most competitive wing. Sure she could sing, but L'kl didn't really give a grubs a** about that. If she pulled this off admirably, he would cut her some slack for a while.
T'man was fresh out of the Weyrling wings and showed promise, however he had yet to be tested. This would be the lads chance to prove himself. He was a strong rider but it would be a challenge to see if he could control and command respect from riders with many runs more experience.
L'kel would be with the Green group for a short time...he would rotate to the other groups in do course. He almost sighed to himself as he noticed the authority with which she commanded the others and the prowess her dragon showed. Although he hated to say it, she deserved to be in this wing and he would give credit where it was do. Zyth. Please tell Naraleth that she and her rider have obviously been traing hard and they are performing expetionally. His dragon laughed at him and L'kel felt his cheeks burn. Don't say a word mine.Well at least you are now paying attention to the greens. L'kel didn't answer and just told Zyth to join in the fomration. They would do the drills alongside the greens. Although he lacked some of the agility, he coul;d make up for it with his power and speed.

Naraleth recieved the message from Mnemozyth and felt very good about spreading it on to Morelia. Mnemozth's sent us a message, he says we are performing expetionally. Morelia was caught off guard a bit by the compliment, she would never have expected something like that from L'kel. The Bronze rider continued to suprise her today. People sometimes had a change of heart about others, but she had never pegged him for one of those people.
Morelia knew that she herself could be stubborn when it came to people so she knew that was as much as she would ever get out of the man. To Naraleth she said That was a nice compliment coming from L'kel wasn't it dear one? Though I am partial to browns, I do find Mnemozyth a very attractive Bronze. You would. Whats that supposed to mean? You know that your getting proddy and that means you are emotionally not yourself. I'll do well to remind you that you are not yourself either. Thanks dear one. Now have them sprint 500 yards at 80% and do two double loops then swerve quickly to the right as if dodging thread. After which they must sprint another 500 Yards turn around and repeat the exercise. After every relay they should swerve to the right. This will end when I signal it. I ask that they space out a little more than they are at the moment. Be mindful of their surroundings, I don't want anyone crashin into another dragon. Trust me there will be consequences if this does happen. As soon as this message is recieved they are to begin.
