Morelia was still carrying the sleeping child when she entered the Weyrhall. The little girl had her arms around her mothers neck and her legs wrapped around her middle. Berelia's small head rested on the slender shoulder of her mother.
Walking to a small table in the corner, Morelia sat down. slowly the little girl opened her eyes a quick smile appearing almost instantaneously. "Mommy! I told them you were coming."
"I know dear, they told me all about it." Morelia smiled at the girl.
"I missed you. Why didn' you see me?" Berelia pouted.
"Sorry darling, I was so busy this week. You know I come see you when I can. I missed you too, Bera." Morelia let the little girl climb off of her and onto her own chair. "Are you hungry? I'm going to have get some food from the drudges."
"I want some juice." Berelia said in a tone her mother would not approve of.
"What did you just say?" Morelia glared at her dauhter, giving her the mommy look. Berelia flushed and looked down at the table.
"I meant, may I please have some juice mommy."
"Yes, you may." Morelia said, smiling at her daughter in approval. She was going to find out who was talking so bossily around the girl after she had been working so hard to teach her proper manners. Of course Morelia never thought it could be herself. Must be a creche Nanny. It had never occured to her that Naraleth could also be saying things to the child that were less than good for a child to hear.
Morelia returned to the table with juice and klah. Then went back for a small platter of fruit and bread. Before she would let Berelia eat she looked at her expectantly.
Berelia looked at her mother and quietly said, "Thank you."
"Now Bera, tell me how are you getting along with the other children?"Morelia smiled knowing that the child was good with the other children. The creche workers always said she shared well.
"I don't like the other girls." Berelia blurted out.
"Why not dear?" A concerned look had come across her face.
"They tell the most horrid lies about people mommy. Then they make them into stories and pass them along. I thought people should always tell the truth?" Berelia looked at her mother in a curious way.
"Your right, people should always tell the truth, even your grandmother thought that way. She didn't much care for stoires like that. Neither do I. That kind of story telling is known as gossip and you would do well to stay out of it." Morelia dsaid to her daughter. "Do you have any friends down there? We could all go on a trip to the lake and Naraleth could come."
"Well my best friend is Gaven. He likes to talk about dragons. There is also Boril and he likes to read me stories. Kedarin likes to pick flowers with me and he always helps me get out of the creche to visit you at night. Asrane is a bit of a bully but he listens to me and usually leads games of tag and such."
Morelia realized how many young boys were playing with her daughter and thougth she was done listing them off when she started up again.
"Direl is a bit shy but he and I like to talk about when we grow up. He says he wants to be a dragonrider and I told him I was going to be too. He is my boyfriend."
Morelia felt a bit stunned. Her daughter, a boyfriend. The girl was only five.
"When do I get to meet this boyfriend of yours?" Morelia asked a bit more amused than she probably shoudl be. Did the little girl need a male authority figure around? Maybe then she would stop only playing with boys...
"Well I don't know how much longer I want to be his girlfriend. He went to get my blanket for me yeaterday and ended up giving it to another girl."
"Oh I see. Well then he obviously hurt your feelings. Were you angry with him?"
"No mama, I wasn't angry I was jealous." She spoke the mature word loud and clear.
"I guess he is a cute boy then, huh?"
"Cute? I just thought he was nice."
"We will talk about cute another time. I'm glad he is a nice boy. Berelia is there something you wanted to ask me? The creche nurse told me how much you tried to escape this week."
The little girl grew quiet for a moment, paling in her face."I...someone said a nasty gossip that I was offended by. they said you had so many boyfriends that you didn't know who my daddy was."
"Who said that?" Morelia was angered.
"One of the drudges, but mama, they didn't know I was there."
"And we both know how drudges love their gossip. I know who your daddy is, rest assured, but he is not ready to be a daddy, so you are a secret. When you are a little older we will take a visit to see him alright?"
"I wish grandpa were here." Berelia said matter of factly. Morelia could have cried. She did miss him too.
"I do too Bera. I do too. Remember he can't come back."
"He went between to another place." Berelia said, "But not between like you go on Naraleth."
Morelia leaned over and picked up the girl giving her a hug.
"You have been a busy girl this week. do you want to stay with me and Naraleth tonight?"
