Kabhi rushed from her own Luna wing weyr to find L'nuo's weyr. It was a month from the time they had met in the Weyrhall and danced. Groaning, she hurried along. She couldn't believe Alth had let this happen to her. She, afterall, would have known before Kabhi would have. When she asked Alth, the only reply she recieved was that the dragon had forgotten. Rolling her eyes, she shook her head and mumbled about incompetent draconic memory.
Back off. It's not my fault, Kabhi, Alth said, sounding affronted.
Kabhi made quick with the mental caresses. "Of course not, Alth. I don't blame you one bit. You're the best, most beautiful dragon in all Pern," she told the dragon, smiling.
She spotted the door to what would be L'nuo's weyr. Knowing his somewhat lecherous habits, Kabhi figured the best idea would be to not burst into the weyr and demand ihs attention. "Alth, please bespeak L'nuo's Enuth and tell him I'd like an audience with his rider."
Alright.

L’nuo… Kabhi wishes to speak to you. Tell her to wait till morning. It is morning. Then tell her to wait till evening. But she’s already here.
“What?” he asked outloud, this time in groggy voice though soft enough to not wake the woman he was entangled with.
She’s outside. She wants to talk to you. Goodness be polite. You said she was a fun one anyways. Nodding to himself as he agreed with his dragon, he carefully freed his limbs from the sleeping woman. Walking to the door, he looked down at himself and sighed. It would be rude to speak with her outside and in the nude nonetheless.
Turning back to his messy room, he kicked some things around and pulled on a pair of loose pants. As he tied the drawstring he leaned over the sleeping woman and spoke softly to her.
“I have company. If you have nowhere to go this morning you are welcome to my bathing chambers. I shouldn’t be too long.” He said simply. Turning away from her, he ran his hand thru his messy hair a few times as she got up and left for the washroom. Hearing the door close behind her, he moved to the entrance of the weyr looking for the world as if he had just gotten up, which he had.
“Good morning Kabhi.” He said cheerfully with a warm smile on his face even as his eyes squinted against the sun. “Why don’t we go ahead inside… the morning is chilly.” As if to accent the comment, it was easily noticeable that L’nuo’s body felt it chilly as well with no shirt to cover the evidence.

Kabhi, who had been awake all night with worry over what the man would tell her, had barely noticed the cold, and suddenly understood why Alth had told her that morning to put on her long sleeve dressing garment, thicker than her day wear, and lined with fur. Hugging it closely around her to hide her sheer nightclothes, she nodded tersely, tensely, barely registering the fact that L'nuo was half-naked. Belatedly, she realized that he had probably been busy with some woman, but she also knew that it wasn't her place to berate him for such doings.
Following him into the weyr, she opened her mouth to speak first. This whole thing would be easier if she could get the words out without him interrupting her. "Okay, let's see...I've been rehearsing all night with this, but all the words are lost from my head now...Alth? Oh, she's asleep...well, okay. Uhm, see, L'nuo, it's like this..." and on that stuttering note, the woman burst into tears.

L’nuo had lead the woman into his bedchambers. Half listening to her broken up sentences, he opened up a pot of day old klah and smelled it. Nope. No way in fall he was going to even thing of offering that to the woman. Looking around he regretted having nothing else in the room. The sound of tears and a shuddering voice, however, brought L’nuo’s attention back to the woman.
Spinning around to face her, he frowned, but instantly put on a more comforting smile as he rushed to her side and sat her down on the bed gently. Sitting beside her, his arm went instinctively around her back as he spoke in what he thought was a soothing voice. Char it all why did he have to do this so early?
“Shh… Its okay Kabhi… What’s wrong? What is it? Don’t worry… I’m here… I’ll help, whatever it is.” He said expecting some sort of man problem or maybe even some family crisis. He often found women he had slept with coming to him for comfort for a time after until they found other men more willing to settle down with them.

Kabhi's tears subsided after a couple minutes of comforting words from her one-time lover, and she knew his words were as truthful as he meant them. "But I dunno," she said, sighing. "You're a pretty good man, but this is big...oh, please don't be mad, I didn't know, I swear, but L'nuo...I'm pregnant."
She looked at him through grimacing eyes. "I don't mean that I want you to...you know, settle with me, or anything...I just thought you ought to know." She closed her eyes, waiting to hear his reply, and hoping it wasn't going to be explosive.

Finally hearing what all the tears were about, L’nuo’s face visibly paled and his hand that had been gently caressing her side hesitated. She was… with child? That meant… That meant… he was a father… a father… Placing his hands on her arms, he physically turned her to face him with more than those beautiful eyes. Looking in them, searching in them for a long moment he swallowed.
I’m a… a father Enuth… You’ve been a father for several years now, L’nuo. But this is different… She told me… I know… before the baby is born… Enuth failed to see the difference.
Without a word, L’nuo slid his hands down from her arms to the hem of her shirt. Not sure if she’d let him, he carefully took hold of it and gingerly began to lift it up. He wanted to see, even though she had not begun to show, that stomach that held his child… a child he actually knew about.

She did indeed let him see her tummy, though she wasn't showing quite yet. She supposed that he wasn't involved with any of his other childrens', and he must have at least a few, lives. "Are you mad?" she asked, quietly, watching his face instead of his hands. His reaction so far had been to lose color, and lose words soon after. If the situation hadn't been what it was, it would have been amusing to see the normally eloquent, smooth L'nuo become speechless, but at the moment, Kabhi failed to see the humor in the situation. She sat on tenterhooks, though she was abnormally subdued now that she had delivered her news.

Finding himself allowed to lift the shirt, he took it completely off. Letting his warm hand slide across the flat skin, he finally tore his gaze away. A baby… His baby… He had a baby… It was there… In Kabhi… His…
“How?... How did you know?... Are you sure its… its mine?” he asked stuttering for the first time in nearly eighteen turns.

Kabhi almost stopped him from pulling her shirt over her head, but at his words, she sighed and allowed it. "How do I know? Surely you must know about a woman's time of month? Well," she said stoutly, worrying, "I haven't had one. Since you and I...well, you remember the evening we spent together? Well, I haven't been with anyone since then," she said, lowering her eyes and perversly loving the feeling of his hands on her stomach. "That's how I know it's yours. And because the last time I was with a man was Alth's flight, four months before that night."
She knew that in the Weyr, sleeping with many different partners was not taboo like in the holds, but she was, and always would be, holdbred, and as such, kept to herself forthright. "So, then, you're not angry with me? I need to know what you think, L'nuo. I've never been pregnant before, you know...." She trailed off, unsure of his full reaction. It could still go either way.

Listening to Kabhi, he found himself nodding, he knew full well about that time when woman grew cranky and never seemed to feel good. Without taking his hand from her stomach, he rewrapped his arm, almost protectively around her. He had heard of some times when the dragons knew before hand too. Had Enuth known?
The dragon did not answer.
“Of course I’m not mad…” he said simply. In truth he wasn’t, he was overjoyed even if it wasn’t showing all too clearly. “Kabhi…” hesitating, L’nuo wondered if he should even tell Kabhi. She probably already knew, being a rider and all. And yet, the knowledge that she had only been with L’nuo since her last flight, as well as this being her first pregnancy… the man felt obligated to at least make sure. She was the one holding the baby after all, not him.
“You do know, that if you should ask… Your green… Alth… can take you between… and… and you can wait to have a child… many riders opt that… they don’t have the time to care for one…” L’nuo found himself not wanting her to even consider the option, but once again he reminded himself that he was not the one carrying the child.

"No, no, I don't think so," Kabhi said, shaking her head. She had been called silly, even stupid for her holdbound beliefs, but they were hers and kept her strong. "I can't, L'nuo, and I don't want to. I was taught...differently," she finished lamely. The last thing she wanted was to call him evil for simply suggesting she abort.
Leaning into his arm, wrapped around her and making her warmer, she wondered if he had wanted her to abort...no, of course not. If he didn't want anything to do with the child, he would simply ignore it. "I don't know, L'nuo...what do we do next--I mean, is there a 'we'? I don't expect you to settle with me, not at all. I guess what I mean is, do you want this?"

L’nuo relaxed visibly as Kabhi said that she was not going to go for an abort. Giving her a gentle, one armed hug he listened silently to the rest of her words. At the mention of a ‘we’ he shook his head. As much as he loved the idea of having a child, a baby of his own, he couldn’t picture himself loving just one woman. It just… wasn’t possible. The simple fact that he was now sitting with a topless one on his bed while another was in the washroom was simple proof of that.
“No, Kabhi. I’m sorry, but I… I find it hard to just love one woman… But, that does not mean that I do not want this. Most women… They use me as much as I use them. Never before has one bothered to tell me that I had a child, though by now it is inevitable that I’ve a few.” Sighing, he caressed her stomach a little more during the short silence before looking back into her eyes and continuing his statement.
“I do want this though… I think we can… can give the kid a family… as friends.” He said simply, not sure if that was what the woman had been looking for. Even though she had spoken against it, he couldn’t help but wonder if she was looking for a way to tie him down.

He just didn't get it, did he? she thought, wincing against his words. "L'nuo, I'm not trying to bind you to me. I've told you already I don't want to settle with you, though I said it nicer, I thought." Kabhi sighed. The long night of pacing, then laying down, then pacing, then flying with Alth, then pacing, then laying, then to just get up and pace some more had gotten to her, and she was a bit sleepy. In her tiredness, he reached her hand up, laid it on his cheek, and made him look at her. She kissed him, realizing that he wanted the baby and wasn't going to skip out on his responsibility too.
"I agree," she said, after laying a kiss on his lips. "I think we could do better as friends than as a...couple," she told him, hand still on his cheek. She heard a sound coming from where she intimately knew the washroom was. Raising an eyebrow and grinning sardonically, she said, "I'm sorry, were you busy before I came?" She smiled to take the bite out of her words. She didn't care if he'd been busy or not.

Finding her kiss on his lips, L'nuo could not help but feel that everything would be okay. Returning the kiss, he reached his other arm to lay on the other side of her legs and pull her, not closer to him, but clear onto his lap. At her words, he smiled and shrugged.
"She will be gone soon enough and I needed a good way to wake up anyways." He said as his hand caressed the woman's stomach now in his lap. Was he ready for this? Well, even if he was not ready for the kid, he was more than ready to bed this particular woman again. Pulling her a little farther into his lap, he began to kiss her gently, not quite worked into his usual roughness yet, but certainly on his way.

Kabhi found herself in the man's lap. Listening to his words, she laughed. "And what way to wake up would that be?" she asked, fairly certain she knew the answer. She kissed him back when he kissed her, and she wrapped a lock of his hair around her finger, remembering that as something he had enjoyed before. A voice in the back of her mind nagged at her about the woman in the bathroom, but she disregarded it. After all, she was so happy with him, and this seemed like a natural way to celebrate. Besides, she thought, I can't really get pregnant again, can I?
Her hands trailed down to the nape of his neck. She pulled away from his now-gentle kisses. "If I were to have a child with anyone, I'm glad it's you, L'nuo," she told him, smiling and blushing. "We both know he'll be good-looking, that's for sure," she said, smiling coyly before deciding she was talking too mucn and kissing him again.
