In the far right corner of the commons area are three long tables that seat 20 students each. Each student is responsible for bringing their writing materials for each class, whether it be slates or hides.
Ardere class assignment:
Weyrling Master Kathrein approached the Ardere class table with a small smile. "Today is the day you have long been waiting for. I want you all to go get your flight harness and meet me in the Weyrbowl. Today you fly. Fighting gear is not necessary as we will only be flying from one end of the Weyrbowl to the other." she announced.

J'zyn grinned happily, and he and his bronze hurried off to their weyr to grab straps and riding gear. Zamyth practically bounced beside him, as the dark haired boy jogged to the buildings. I get to FLY today!!! he said happily, loudly, to J'zyn, his dark bronze head bobbing back adn for as he hurried his rider along. J'zyn nearly tripped on his over eager dragon, "Don't tread on me, you behemoth, or its not flying we'll be doing." He groused in a fake upset voice. But the bronze was not to be denied. Today I fly! And you ride upon my back like we did in practice, and you become a proper rider! Zamyth recited jubulently.
"And you become a proper dragon, I suppose?" J'zyn said as he ducked inside the weyr, grabbingup gear that was hanging on handy pegs driven into cracks in the stone walls. He ran a quick, slightly practiced hand over the straps, triple checking them. He'd checked them that morning upon rising, and again before class, but he was excited, and it never hurt...
Zamyth reared up, mock offended at his rider. I have ALWAYS been a proper dragon, rider, and don't you forget it. He bellowed out. J'zyn laughed, and reappeared outside, gear in hand, dressed in his riding gear. "Then lets go, slow poke." he taunted, and took off at a brisk jog for the Bowl, his dragon flatfooted for only a second, before he wheeled around, and followed the disappearing boy.
--- Lynae put a hand on Grimgoth's soft blue hide, and shivered. To actually fly? It was a dream, she thought. No, my beloved, no dream, but a reality. Let us retrieve the gear, and not be late, ere Weyrlingmaster Kathrein be upset and not let us lift today. Her blue's gentle reminder was enough to get the young girl moving, and she hustled back to the dorm, and retireved the hanging gear. She slipped into the hot wherhide riding gear, grimacing at the wamrth of the clothes. She tucked her braids up under her helmet, shoving it down and tying the straps tightly. She stood there, looking at the reflection in her small mirrored metal glass, and her mind began to wander...flying....hmmm....
Lynae, they will be waiting. You do want Kathrein upset at us again, do you, dear heart? His calm voice broke through her reverie, and she scooped up the gear, hurrying out to the dark blue, "No way, no how...I hate it when she gets mad." her voice was small, but she hurried to join up with the others at the Weyrbowl.

F'sen smiled at the day's assignment. Flying! He had waited for this day with Dyminath so long! The brown's happiness filled F'sen in agreement. The weyrling shuddered for a moment. He still wasn't used to the dragon having such a close bond, but he did enjoy it. His life was that much more interesting, and he loved Dyminath more than anything. F'sen ran back to the weyrling barracks to grab his riding gear and the riding straps. With a quick look-over to make sure there were no cracks, he raced to the Bowl, where Dyminath was waiting for him.
Why are you checking for cracks? You just oiled them yesterday and checked. I just want to be sure. You never know what happens overnight. You are too careful and cautious. Come on, mine. We don't have all day. I want to fly! F'sen laughed. Keep your hide on, you silly beast. The pair raced to the Bowl after the other four, ready to learn how to fly after one entire turn of waiting. It was they day that they all looked forward to, and none of them wanted to be late or mess it up. He smiled. This day was certainly starting well.

Late, as usual, U'kan sauntered into the commons with Juyoth, just in time to hear to assigment. Flying! Yes! Just in time to show that J'zyn how much better he was. No matter if his dragon's hide was Brown not Bronze, he would still be the best dragonrider in all of Pen. He would be the first Brown weyrleader ever.
For once, he was acually motivated to hurry up, I am coming Juyoth! To the bowl, we are to fly! And i can show that Zamyth who's boss. Like rider like dragon. U'kan could barely contain his excitement. After a very quick check of his flight gear, he was just itching to get off the ground.

S'tan felt like leaping for joy when he heard thta they would be flying for the first time. Wocath wake-up!!! We're supposed to fly today S'tan grinned as he raced to Wocath's and his Weyr, he grabbed his flying harness and nearly had all of his gear gathered up before Wocath was woken enough to fully understand what S'tan had said. FLYING!!! I'll be in the Bowl. Hurry S'tan I wanna be first to fly!!S'tan's grin widened at Wocath's excitment.I'm going as fast as I can.
S'tan rushed into the Bowl and spotting Wocath raced over to her, seems that she had moved faster than S'tan had ever thought she could/would. And then he paused and looked at the Weyrlingmaster to see what they were supposed to do. His lazy nature was no where in sight. S'tan was all eyes and ears. Wocath was just as watchful as her rider.
