In the far right corner of the commons area are three long tables that seat 20 students each. Each student is responsible for bringing their writing materials for each class, whether it be slates or hides.
Bellorai Class assignment:
After finishing assigning class for Chalbys class Weyrling Master Kathrein moved to the head of Bellorai's table. "Today we will be learning about flight harness care, use and construction." she said, placing Tath's harness on the table. The harness was in top condition, having just been cleaned and oiled. Next she placed an old dry cracked harness beside hers. She used this one to demonstrate how a harness could become overused and stretched, and if not cleaned and oiled properly could dry out and crack. "Flight harness care is very important for your safety and the best way to learn to care for one is to do it." she said. Looking toward the door leading to the bowl, she signaled the riders waiting there. Seventeen riders entered the room carrying their riding harness and cleaning and oiling supplies.

K'desh sat at the table as the Weyrling master entered, explaining their first lesson. He was prepared as always for the lesson. His brown eyes took in everything his ears could not. His hair was cut very short in a militaristic sort of way and was black in color. As he listened his small shoulders straightened. The young boy was still learning much about dragons and found all of it both fascinating and crucial to remember.
Korath mind touched him, what are you doing in lessons today? A smile lit his face as he thought of his mahogany brown dragon. Riding strap care. We have to keep the riding gear well oiled and cared for so that it doesn't crack. Hmmm. Interesting...I wish I could come watch. I doubt that Weyrlingmaster Kathrein wants to know that you are awake, when you should be taking a nap. yawn... well I think your right. Let me know when your ready to go to the Lake, I could use some oiling myself. The dragon seemingly went back to sleep.

Treesa took the harness she was offered from one of the adult riders. She looked up at Kathrein's examples, and shuddered. She'd been listening and heard stories about straps that broke during wing practices, or when just riding. It didn't even do to think about one breaking during Threadfall. She ran graceful hands down the stained leather straps, feeling for tears or worn spots as the WM was showing them.
What are you doing, Treesa? Your mind is very occupied. came a soft inquiry from her green love, Chimith. I am in lecture, Chim, about straps, of all things. Oiling them like we do you. she didn't even want to think what the oil did to her nicer clothes, the times she'd gotten a spot on her green dancing dress, it had taken her three hours of careful labor to remove the stain before it set.
Chimith stretched, her dark green wings reflecting brilliant sunlight. She stretched her claws into the sand of the lakeshore, and yawned. I think I will return to my nap then, rider mine, but I itch under my left wing. the green grumped slightly, as her mind voice faded off as she fell under the spell of the warm breeze and hot sun. Treesa smiled, and reached for the dark oil to begin on her set of straps.

Noticing Treesa had begun to work already on her leathers, K'desh greatfully took his. He knew how to take care of a saddle and bridle this couldn't be much different in material. He decided though to wait and be told what way the Weyrlingmaster wanted them cleaned. She seemed to have a system for everything and he wasn't about to make the mistake of not knowing how to do something right and messing it up. Looking intently at Kathrein , he waited patiently. Chestnut brown eyes following the other Weyrlings movements as if to see if she knew something he did not. He did not like the idea of being second to get soemthing. K'desh prided himself on his quick wit.

J'rin took the saddle offered to him, and placed it on his table. I didn't look like he would be able to do anything today with all of the riders around. He sighed annoyed that he wouldn't be able to do anything fun. Fith feeling J'rin's annoyence touched his mind.Whats the matter Mine?? Did you get extra chores again? The last part the dragon spoke with disgust, he hated anything that took J'rin away from him. Except classes of course. No...we're doing boring stuff inclass today and theres no way I can slack off, or do anything besides learn and work.
J'rin gave the saddle a glare, and then noticed that some of the other Weyrlinggs werr testing for cracks and such. I'll be busy for a while Fith. So you might as well go to sleep or something.J'rin liked talking to his dragon but he didn't want to get in trouble for not paying attention to the Weyrlingmaster. I'll go down near the beach. The sun is nice and warm today, good for sunning. J'rin sighed and wished he could go with Fith, but he couldn't. He turned his attention to the saddle and began checking for cracks after that he would check the straps.
