1. Have you got a Search token?
"yes sir." Haldon opened his hand and held it out to the Candidate Master. He hadn't let go of it in the candle mark it had taken him to find the Candidate Masters office. His hat was in his other hand, a pair of saddlebags over his shoulder. He was lightly covered in trail dust, except for the clean and pale rim line on his forehead which the hat kept from getting sun or dust.
2. Please list your name, age, and birthing day.
I am Haldon, I have 16 turns and I was born on midsummer's day.
3. Where have you come from?
I am from a bovine hold near Burach, it took us 42 days to get the Bovines here heading mostly North. I was searched as we brought the herd into Weyr territory. I stayed with the herd until it was where the Weyr wanted and then rode on to the Weyr.
4. Do you have any skills? Belong to a Craft?
I know bovines. I can herd them, I know when they are sick or well. I've helped birth calves, branded - I can do a little leather work, enough to make a new whip or rope or fix my saddle. I can make a fire, stand a night watch, and do a little horn or bone carving.
He pulled off the brightly colored though somewhat dust covered scarf from around his neck to show a leather and carved bone necklace. The three pieces of bone were stylized versions of a bovine with a canine on one side and a runnerbeast on the other. The leather was undyed, and by the sweat stains on the boy's neck, that was a wise choice.
5. Do you have any valuables that you would like locked up? (Give these to the CM to be locked in a secure room.)
"Valuables? I have my saddle, rope and whip, I don't think they are valuable to anyone but me, but I'd like them to be somewhere safe. Other then that, I have my knife and a few things in my saddlebags.
6. Did you bring any pets with you?
No sir, the riding beasts and canines are working animals and belong to the hold. Another herder rode in with me, she'll take the Runnerbeast back with her.
