Kathrein waited in the weyrbowl for the class. She couldn't help but smile at the speed which they arrived. No one was ever late for their first flight. Once everyone had arrived she began.
"I know you have all heard this 1,000 times but here is 1,001. Your dragons instinctively know the rudiments of flight and should do well, but as you know sometimes things can happen." she said, indicating the Weyrs Dragonhealer. If your dragon is injured you must remain calm to keep your dragon calm. Most acidents happen on landing and can range from injured claws to a broken wing. No first flight is perfect but I want you to praise your dragon for the effort they give no matter how awkward the flight. If your dragon does well today then tomorrow I will consider mounted flights. No one is to mount their dragon for any reason." she said, remembering the turn a green rider mounted her dragon "for a better view of the flights," and had fallen off and broken her ankle.
If you are ready, I want you to harness your dragons and Corra, you will be first. Once Eileith is harnessed, bring her over to the Healer for her pre-flight checkup. If her checkup is approved then I want you to direct her to fly over to the feeding pens, land there, and then return. J'zyn, you are next.

Caslynne stood back from the Weyrlings with Kathrein, watching them with a smile stretching across her face. This was always some of the best Weyrling Training moments, and she loved that she got to watch. Well, it wasn't that it was just for her to watch, but she did have to carry out her job as well. Yes, she was Weyr Dragonhealer. But that didn't mean that she couldn't have fun watching. Remember our first flight? Cas chuckled behind her hand. Yes, Vy. You were so clumsy and I was laughing the entire time. But I got the hang of it quickly after that. Faster than those other males. Of course, mine. You're the best male in the Weyr. The blue bathed in the compliment and Caslynne was trying hard not to laugh again.
The Weyrlings all arrived, and Caslynne was surprised to find a gold weyrling. Ah, so this was the clutch with that gold. This would get interesting. Kathrein began the speech, and she nodded along, although her stormy blue eyes were busy getting a good look at each and every one of them. They seemed like a good group from her quick check, but she would soon find out when their dragons began to fly. She smiled at the group, lightening her stormy eyes to show a bit more blue from beneath their gray clouds. Well, there sure were a few lookers among the group. She would just have to see how this all turned out. The gold weyrling was called first, obviously, and Caslynne awaited the gold to be finished harnessing. Then her turn would come in for the first time this day of many.

Sarai and Alyth stood back watching stoicly from behind some of the other weyrlings. Her soft curls grew only to her ears, where she tucked them back. Her dark complexion was easily noticeable in this collection of fair skinned weyrlings. Her golden eyes were very receptive of what was happening. The Gold, Eilith would go first, setting an example for the other dragonets. Sarai wondered how clumsy she would be compared to Corra. Not that it much mattered. She wanted to fly as much as Alyth. They had so much to prove the Weyr. They were clumsy and slow but in flight perhaps they could be better. It was not really Sarai's fault that she had been slow minded. Her family had been drudges for centuries and not one of them had ever impressed a dragon. In fact most of them did not want to impress one. Her parents had not given her a proper education about the world or anything in it other than working. She therefore had begun learning after coming to the Weyr as a candidate. She hated to admit that reading was taking her a long time to learn properly and her writing was only worse. Her family had done as most did, passed on things orally... I hope I do well. I would not want to be injured on landing. Follow the instructions and you will be fine.

U'kan stoo nervously by Juyoth. He would be one of the first up, after Bronze ZJ'zyn, being a brown. Juyoth on the otherhand wasn't the least bit nervous. Don't waorry mine. I'll do great and we'll show them all how good we are. I'm not scared at all...i can do this. Well i am glad you are so confident. and i am sure you will do find. I just hope i don't faint on you. His big brown snorted at his joke. Look at Eilieth. She is going first. It was almost awe-worthy that they had a Queen in their class. U'kan hoped that someday Juyoth would fly the Gold over alll the bronzes. For now though, he would settle for managing this first flight. He so badly wanted to show J'zyn he wsa just as good as a brpnze rider.

S'tan was almost shaking with excitment as he stood by Wocath who was just as excited as he was. Oooh...why are greens always last S'tan??? I wanted to be first. The green was slightly put down, but not to much. " I guess its because their so many of you Wocath....and I doubt we will be last. He smiled at his excited and fast becoming annxious dragon.
S'tan had guessed before that Wocath wouldn't be first to fly..and he was alright with that. It gave him time to watch and prepare for when Wocath was to fly. "You know Wocath, you could learn a lot by just watching the others go before you...like how to land properly and all" S'tan hoped she'd listen and watch, he was deathly-afraid Wocath would get hurt. I suppose I should watch. But I bet i'll be the best..even better than Eileith!! St'an just nodded as he waited for Wocath's turn.

Corra's face turned a light pink as Weyrlingmaster Kathrein made her the center of attention. Her and Eileith? Go first? Taking a deep breath to calm the fluttering that had just appeared in her stomach, Corra moved a distance away from the group so that she had room to harness Eileith. Eileith, we're going first...
The young gold, who had been sunning herself with a few of her clutchmates, brought her head up from her forelegs. Her eyes whirled a slow blue with orange creeping in slowly as she felt her lifemates growing nervousness. I'm coming. Eileith was always short and to the point when she spoke as she was not one to mince words or speak unless she had to. Shaking herself to get rid of some dirt on her legs, she trotted over to Corra, slowing down slightly as she got closer to the group, only stubbing a toe once on the way. Walking is always difficult for dragons, especially ones that are growing so fast that they don't have time to adjust to their own size before they hit another growth spurt.
Corra couldn't keep a smile from forming on her face as Eileith came to a stop beside her and began to assist her rider in getting the riding harness on. They had practiced this many times before, so it was a relatively easy process. After a few minutes, Corra finished buckling everything up and motioned Eileith to the Dragonhealer. There shouldn't be anything wrong with the gold. Granted, she had had a dry patch of skin on the base of her left wing this morning, but Corra had oiled it liberaly before breakfast.
Coming to a stop in front of Caslynne, Corra gave a small, respectful curtsy to the Dragonhealer. It looked slightly ridiculous, seeing as she was in riding gear, but Pern's newest goldrider was still not used to her elevated position in life and had yet to let go of the etiquette that had been ingrained into her as an Apprentice Harper. "Eileith is ready for inspection." Not one to speak up much herself in a public situation, Corra waited for Caslynne to give her and Eileith the "OK" to go ahead with the flight.

The gold weyrling stepped up with Eilieth right beside her. A fine gold, if she did say so herself. A smile tugged at the corner of her lips at the curtsey. She chuckled behind her hand and then shook her head. "No, no. Believe me when I say I am the last person you should do that to. Now, lets see how Eilieth is, although I'm sure she's just fine with the way she's glowing." Caslynne grinned and began inspection, checking for dryness, scratches, any signs of discomfort, and all of the sort. The gold was oiled well, and was in perfect health for flight. Her structure was just as well, so there seemed to be no worries for her first time. Landing was always the hardest, but that wouldn't be the cause of wing structure defects or improper care.
"She's clear to go. Enjoy yourself now!" She smiled and prepared for the gold to take off into flight. Is she a nice one? Of course, silly. Perfect health and body structure. Her wings are perfect for flight and moving around quickly for Threadfall and Flight. Why do you ask? I am a male, I'll have you remember. You? A gold? No...greens are just fine with me. Leave her to the browns and bronzes. I'd rather not cause a mess of the Weyr by catching a gold while I am female and you are male. What is wrong with that? Nothing, really. It just complicates things. That's all. Cas knew that the blue couldn't possibly hold his own in a Flight with the gold dragon, but she never had to tell him that, did she?
----------------------------------------------
F'ren stood beside his fellow weyrlings, nervousness making him frozen where he stood. Dyminath was a brown, so would he go after J'zyn? Or after the other brownriders? He wasn't sure when he would go, but no matter what he just wanted Dyminath to be alright. The brown was so nervous and excited at the same time, that F'ren was consumed with his emotions rather than the ones he should be feeling. He wasn't sure if he was excited or scared, but the brown's emotions seemed to overpower his own anyway. Well, maybe by watching the others go first they could learn from their mistakes. It couldn't be that hard, could it?
Easy for you to say. F'ren chuckled and nudged U'kan, a fellow brown weyrling. "Hey, good luck up there. You'll probably go first, so I'll cheer for you down here." He offered and assuring smile, to try and lighten the mood for someone else. Dyminath just wouldn't calm down, and F'ren needed to get him into the air soon so that he wouldn't be so antsy. Soon, soon. The Dragonhealer finally accepted Corra's gold, and they would be off into the air. Just her, J'zyn and U'kan until they were up. His fists clenched by his sides and unclenched, trying to use his energy and fear by keeping his hands busy. The boy licked his lips in anticipation. And so it begins.

U'kan gave F'ren a curt nod in reply. He wasn't really the most talkative fellow...except to Juyoth. Now mine...you know i'll do great don't you? The tall Weyrling felt some of his anticipation disipate at that comment. Of course, Ju. You'll do the best out of anyone. U'kan sjifted from foot to foot waiting for his turn. Eilieth is looking fine today.[/b AS is her rider. What a pair of boys! U'kan couldn't wait for Weyrling restictions on relationships to be over with so he could lay some of his char, on the newest Queenrider. Girls seemed to go after the tall, dark, silent, roguish, mysterious, bad boy thing he had going on.
He was rather good looking, with a strong straight nose, long black hair and a well structured face. His abs didn't hurt either though. He shifted a little from foot to foot to keep his legs from falling asleep. If Juyoth did really well then maybe he would get to ride his Brown the next day. although he never told anyone...he hadn't ever even ridden a dragon before. He was Weyrbred and had been a drudge until he had been apprenticed to beasman Thaerne. After that, he had ridden runners everywhere he had needed to go since. As excited as he was at the prospect of lying he hadn't ever really experienced it before and certainly didn't want to make a fool of himself.
He noticed Juyoth rolling in the grass and skritching at his skin. Juyoth! Don't do that mine! You'll get cuts and irritations on your hide then we won't be given the ok by Caslynne! The brown stood up and shook his wings off looking extremely sheepish. I'm sorry mine. I just had itchies on my back! But I oiled you last night! U'kan checked his dragon's hide carefully and found a spot of red, rashy bumps that looked a little fishy. Am i ok U'kan? You're fine sweety. You're probably just gowing and your hide is cracking. Just try to cover the itchy spot with your wing when Caslynne checks you over. If you keep gorwing I swear you'll be as big as a Bronze! He added on a happier note so as not to worry his dragon. Surely the little rash wasn't anything...?
((Caslynne can turn him down or give him a closer examination whe nthe time comes. Just to make things more interesting.))

Kathrein waited as Eileith to get her checkup. As soon as she was approved, the Weyrling Master signaled J'zyn to bring his dragon over to Caslynne. She then told Corra to go ahead and direct her dragon to fly.

Zamyth arched his head around, eyes whirling excitedly, as J'zyn gave the new riding straps a final hard tug. Leather slapped, and J'zyn said, "Well, those won't go anywhere.." He stood back, and looked at his ever growing bronze. His face shown with a certain pride for the darkly colored dragon, who, as usual, was full of himself. I look good He said, neck arching proudly as J'zyn grinned up at him. Indeed you do, my boy, indeed you do. Zamyth's hide shown with good health, and a recent bath/oiling session.
J'zyn tapped his right wing, and Zamyth obediently extended it for him. the wingsail was smooth, latticed with the veins of ichor that supported him. J'zyn pulled a rag from his pocket, and rubbed off a small speck of dirt, being careful not to get any oil on his new leathers. Putting the rag away, he said, "I believe you are ready for inspection Zamyth." He waited for Weyrlingmaster Kathrein's signal, and the tow of them moved over to the Dragonhealer for that inspection. Zamyth held his head proudly, and announced to all the female dragons present. Watch closely, ladies, that you may see the one that will court you successfully among the clouds, and win your fair hearts for the length of a long and glorious flight. J'zyn closed one eye, and peered up at his rather arrogant bronze, shaking his head. He laughed, and said, "First you must pass these official tests, love. Remember what we have been practicing in the jungle. " Zamyth lowered his head o his rider, and said I remember well, mine. All the strengthening and the glides you had me practice. I will not embarrass us, mine. I promise His eyes whirled with the love a dragon had for his rider. J'zyn put a gentle hand on the large shoulder, and breathed. He still got overwhelmed by the affection the bronze had for him.
"Come, Zamyth, to Caslynne." he said, choking back some surprising tears. His eyes were suspiciously bright as he presented himself and the bronze before the Dragonhealer.

Caslynne was already turned towards the bronze, seeing as he was the only bronze in the group it was obvious he would be next. The rider checked his dragon for a few seconds before they confidently strode over to her. Well, wasn't he just the glowing one? Her eyebrow raised for a moment as she gave him a basic look over with her stormy eyes. Well he looked good at a quick glance, but how about up close? Cas bent over to better examine the bronze, trying to find any flaw that might result in further injury while in flight. But this bronze seemed to be flawless. She looked over to his rider and grinned. "You take care of him very well. He looks well fed and oiled, without any patches of dry skin. Good job, he's allowed to fly." She nodded her go ahead and stood, awaiting the next dragon. Already she could spot a few who might not be allowed to fly, but at least that time hadn't come for the first two.

((You can go ahead and post J'zyn's flight. I've been really busy lately, so when I get some free time I'll just edit this post. Nothing big is going to happen during Eileith's first flight. She might be a little jarred when she lands, but that's it, so go ahead and let your charries react or just post their flight. )

U'kan held his head up when J'zyn had finished. He would probably be next. Or at least he should be. He just hoped the weird rash wouldn't be noticed. It was probably nothing but they might not be allowed to fly! And he really wanted to show that J'zyn and Zamyth that color proved nothing. Juyoth was twice that Bronzer!

S'tan waa beginning to clam down as he watched the Dragonhealer look over the first Weyrlings. 'Hmm..' He thought as he continued to watch the the werylings get a complete checkover by Dragonhealer Caslynne. Suddenly he became afraid, what if Wocath wasn't in good-enough shape to fly! She'd be heart-broken...and it would be all his fault, because he was suposed to take care of her. S'tan tryed not to let his thoughts get broadcasted over to Wocath, but though his thoughts were hidden his emotions weren't.
Mine!!!? What is the matter? Why are you so afraid...did you forget something? Wocath knew enough about her life mate to guess that he had forgotten something, but she was still interested in the answer he would give her. "Uh..." S'tan fumbled as he tryed to give her an explanation. "Maybe I should...check you over Wocath. To-to uh....make sure that you are in good shape." S'tan finished with a gasp, and feverently hoped that Wocath hadn't guessed why he wanted to check her over.
Alright...Mine. Though I feel just fine and you oiled me last night. And with that the green weyrling turned her attentuion back to the weyrlings being inspected by to Dragonhealer Caslynne. S'tan smiled with relief and putting Wocaths riding gear on the ground began looking over his life-mates green hide, searching for any flaws. 'Nothing yet' S'tan thought as he searched over Wocath's left wing.
