Shereae traipsed the beaches yet again, though now in broad daylight and with permission from the Candidate Master. She was bound and determined to find her flit egg, golden if she could get it, and Impress her a firelizard. She walked along, keeping her eyes very open for the tell-tale signs of a clutch--gold firelizards flying about with her bronze consorts, odd sand formations or caves, and chittering sounds. Her ears picked up a scolding noise...to the left! Shereae made a quick turn behind a sandy hill and ducked down. There was a golden firelizard, chittering and scolding the bronzes and browns around...a nest! Shereae's heart began to pound. Here was her chance!

The gold began humming a welcome to the hatchlings instinct told her would emerge from the 15 odd eggs half buried in the hot sands of the cove. She ordered her fair to bring offerings to the moving mass of shells. The bronze and browns, greens and blues darted back and forth toward the water bringing forth hordes of rock crawlers, fish, and seaweed teeming with life. It took little prompting, her fair was the best... the smartest. The tapping grew louder and so did the thrum of her light soprano accompanied by the males' deeper sounds.

Shereae was struck with a thrumming that she felt right down to her bones. Humming! And it was the same type as at the Hatching...the eggs! Her attention had been pulled away to the many little dragons pulling in food for the hatchlings, but now her gaze was focused up the throbbing, bumping eggs.
Without thinking, she scuttled forward, keeping her head down low and pulling a meatroll from her purse at her waist. There, she thought. There's the biggest egg. She tried to get closer to it, of course, to snatch it up as it hatched, but she had forgotten one important detail--the momma firelizard.

The little gold catching a movement from one of her many facets gave a shriek and dove after the large creature, going for her long red hair. The rest of the small dragons soon followed.... the smell of firestone heavy on their breath.

"Grah!" Shereae yelled as the gold firelizard flew down at her scalp, ripping a good few hairs out from her head. "Scorch and Sear!" She didn't stop though, just kept going and rubbing her scalp as she ran. She'd have liked to just taken the egg, and before it hatched, but that was proving impossible. Grimacing, she ran closer, closer, over the dune. She was oh-so-close...less that six feet away...

The entire fair gave chase to the large loud creature. A tiny green flew in front of the woman and flamed...

A flame hit Shereae square on the nose and burned the Fall out of her. "OUCH!" she said, swatting blindly in front of her. There! The eggs! Opening her eyes, Shereae snatched up the one she was after, the biggest of the eggs. She hoped it contained the little golden queen. Sprinting, she held the egg to her bosom, willing it to stay whole long enough for her to get away.

The gold gave chase, but the creeling of hatchlings pulled her attention away from the stolen egg... It wasn't long and several wet masses had spilled form their prisons, welcomed to the world by the voices of their Fair.

Though she felt the glorious absence of claws on her back and neck, Shereae jogged until she found herself behind a treeline. Crouching behind the trees, she pulled the sandy dirt around the egg. The sand was hot enough, even under the trees, to hatch the egg, especially since it was already rocking and quaking.
The egg split, and out tumbled a tiny little dragon. Her eyes flashed red and orange, and her gold hide glinted sunlight off the slick liquid still wetting her wings and body. Shereae gasped and quickly opened her purse to pull out a meatroll. Grabbing the little lizard and stuffing her into the crook of her elbow, she held out the piece of food. It was ravenously devoured, and Shereae made smaller pieces so the gold wouldn't choke.
Shereae's heart as bursting with pleasure and happiness. Impression occured as the hungry gold finally became satiated and fell asleep. Shereae stuck her inside her side purse, left the flap open for air, and carried her back to the Weyr.
