"It's okay," he replied. He kneeled to whisper in her ear after he'd seen the look on her face. "They're not dating bronze riders, love." He stood back up. "I was waiting for but a minute. You look lovely. Shall we go to dinner?" he asked, and they left.
"Now this is the hard part," he told her. "I am obligated, as a wingsecond, to sit at the Head Table. But you can't come with me, dear," he said, smiling to soften the fact. "But when you are finished eating, stand up and go to the door, and I shall join you, okay?"

Amoare failed to see how eating alone would be the ‘hard part’ after they’ve eaten for countless dinners without each other already. Nodding in agreement anyways, she smiled. “Oh dear me, I don’t know if I’ll be able to manage without you for an entire meal.” she said sarcastically, laughter painting her voice.
Lifting to her tip-toes, she kissed him on the cheek. “I’ll be fine.” she said softly before leaving him to find his own seat as she moved to hers. Finding a few of her friends already seated, she easily fell into place within the crowed of candidates; even her glance at the head table was overlooked as most candidates glanced that way in envy.

P'resh walked up to the Head Table and took his customary seat. Most knew by the time they got to ranking enough to sit at the Head Table where P'resh's spot was, and if they didn't, P'resh ferlt no reluctance about informing them immdiately. There was something to be said for public humiliation. He made himself comfortable in the wooden seat, leaning slightly to the left with his elbow on the table as he waited for the food to come out. Another Bronze rider was passing around the wineskin, and P'resh judiciously filled his cup with the white liquid. Taking a sip, he winked to Amoare at her table and returned to business where he was.
"Well, P'resh, recruiting them young now, are we?" a fellow wingsecond asked. His name was R'len, and he was most known for attempting to stick his nose into everyone's business but his own.
P'resh turned to face him, eyes flashing. "What do you mean, R'len?"
"Well, that girl can't be any older than...seventeen turns! Are you her 'beau' now, like you have been for so many others?" R'len suggested, tone turning a bit more serious than before, but face still masked with a jesting appearance.
P'resh's jaw clenched. "Hmm," he said, feigning a thoughful appearance. "Or, maybe it could be that you have once again, without fail, managed to put your large, wherry-like snout into my personal life. Well, R'len," P'resh continued. "I'm afraid your timing's off, for now is not the time to harrass me. Or is it that you have no woman, and are bent on persecuting those who do?" P'resh suggested, eyebrows raised in a student's fashion, though his eyes ranged something more dangerous. "If I were you," he said, reducing his voice to a low growl, "I'd back off. Let sleeping whers lie, and all," he said.
R'len looked away. P'resh looked up to see a large majority of the rest of the wingseconds watching him and R'len. "And that goes for the rest of you, too!" he said loudly, and he took a sip of wine and began to spear a piece of roast wherry, as well as spooning several tubers onto his plate. Eventually, the rest went back to their own conversations, and R'len spoke no more to P'resh. P'resh ate, and spoke to an older bronzerider on his other side. He listened to a story of a time that the older man and his dragon had flown a queen and enjoyed a few priviledges for a while. The story was interesting to P'resh.

Breaking away from the current debate, Amore found her eyes wandering to the wing second at the head table yet again. The look on his face as he spoke to a fellow rider caught Amoare off guard and she quickly found her way back to her food and the talking around her.
“But surely a Sodalis queen will rise next! Lateo has a clutch due in the sands! Certainly they can’t have two!”
“You can’t plan a queens flight, Derral. We just have to wait and see…”
“Do you think we’ll impress??” The last voice, Amoare noticed, belonged to one of the younger candidates just recently brought from Miamhaoil Hold. Sighing, she’d turned her attention back to the head table. She’d heard this conversation a thousand times. Seeing P’resh now in conversation with an older rider, Amoare rested her head on her hand, content to wait for him to finish.
“Who’ya watch’n Amoare?” The voice startled Amoare and she turned to see a familiar face. It was a lad from Terra Hold who’d become a candidate when she had finally approached H’mei. “If its not anyone important, perhaps you’d like to join me and some friends for a game tonight?”
“Hullo Tevern. I’m was just thinking.” she said with a smile. She had helped him with many tasks in the Weyr and he’d helped her with many others. They’d come to respect each other.
Glancing back up at the table, she found P’resh looking at her again and she blushed. “I’m sorry Tevern. I must be going. I’m afraid I’ve already plans tonight. Next time?” she said, hoping he’d not be upset with her.
“Certainly. Any time with you would be great!” he said as he watched her get up, not failing to notice the bronzer that followed after her.
Stepping just outside the Hall, Amoare leaned up against the rock wall and looked up at the stars. She knew P’resh had seen her and knew it wouldn’t be long until he joined her.

As the old man wrapped his story up, P'resh stood and laid a hand on his shoulder. "Thank you, O'mar. That was the best story I've ever heard," he told the rider honestly.
"Oh, P'resh, just go. I saw your girl leave," the older man said, laughing. P'resh took no offence, and shrugging, laughed with him. He turned and went for the hall, where he knew Amoare would be waiting for him.
Kaunth, the rider said. Kaunth!
Wha? the bronze replied sleepily.
I'm sorry to bother you, my bronze friend, but I need you to come get us from the Bowl noe, please, P'resh said, heading out of the hall into the hallway.
Fine, the bronze said groggily, spreading his wings and stretching his hind legs.
P'resh walked over to his love, who was looking at the stars. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders and put his nose in her hair. "You ready for that surprise?" he asked.

Finding arms suddenly around her, Amoare jumped before she realized it was P’resh. Turning her head to look up at the man standing behind her, she smiled. “Oh so your finally ready to tell me?”
Laughing she brought her hands up to hold his arms where they were, feeling protected within the circle. She leaned back against him as she watched a shadow slowly form into Kaunth. Becoming more practiced at climbing onto the bronze, she managed to get up again without P’resh’s help.
