"It's nothing," he said quickly. P'resh felt no inclination to accidentally discourage her from continuing her candidacy. "No worries!" he told her, slapping a winning smile on his face. He leaned into her hand on his collarbone, liking the way her smooth hands brushed it.
"Oh, Amoare," he said. "You're so good to me." He was feeling a little tired now that she was rubbing his upperchest, and a goofy smile presented itself as they lay on the dragon, her head on his shoulder. EVerything felt incredibly right..

While Amoare didn’t believe his words, she didn’t push the matter, but instead fought back her curiosity in fear of just upsetting him more. Seeing him move toward her hand, she smiled and leaned into kiss him, absolutely loving the feel of his lips against hers.
Seeing the goofy smile form on his face, Amoare struggled to keep from laughing. While it was rather comical, it was also adorable and made her simply want to smother him in kisses. Deciding that smothering him wouldn’t be the wisest idea, she asked instead “What’s that silly grin for?” the hint of laughter colored her voice as she let her hand run across his muscles.

"This silly grin is about you and that roving hand of yours making me tired with all the good caressing," he told her.
This is rediculous, he thought. I have to stay wake. Eventually, Kaunth's got to have a bath, and I've a surprise to present. And it was a fantastic surprise.
He sat up suddenly, with a brilliant idea for a late afternoon activity before dinner. "You want to go flying?" he asked. "As I remember it, you were properly frightened the first time you flew on Kaunth...do you remember it at all? Have you ever flown on a dragon before that?"

Blushing slightly at the mention of ‘caressing’, Amoare looked away from P’resh, which instantly turned into a bad idea as he suddenly sat up. Nearly falling over because of his sudden movement, Amoare found herself staring dumbfoundedly at him.
The mention of flying put a smile back on her face. “I’ve been up a few times, but always on a blue or green. I’d be thrilled if I could go with you and Kaunth again!” Clapping happily she forgot to mention that she hadn’t remembered anything of their previous flight together.

"Well, then, scramble yourself up to his ridges and have a seat in the first set of straps," he instructed. He had decided that first night they spent together that she would always fly in front of him. And so it was.
When he looked up next, he saw that she was sitting where she ought to be. "Kaunth, wake up," he said, both aloud for Amoare's benefit and in his mind.
Are we flying straight or going between, the bronze asked.
P'resh rolled his eyes. "Kaunth, would you enjoy going between with a wet hide? And we are not properly dressed for such adventures, my friend," he said.
I don't think of you meatbags, Kaunth said, faking grouchiness. I hav e all the outer hide I need. P'resh relayed this statement to Amoare while strapping her in. He climbed in behind her, strapped himself in, and reached around her for the handles. He gave Kaunth the order to take off, adding in his mind a command to take it easy because of their passenger, and they lefted from the earth.

Amoare wasted no time climbing to the ridges and was pleased to find herself sitting in front. She knew most children sat in front, but as she was very well past that stage she’d been in the back most her other short rides. Watching carefully at which straps P’resh chose, she couldn’t help but shiver with delight. Flight was something she’d never tire of and therefore never turn down.
Hearing Kaunth’s retorts from P’resh, she laughed and patted the bronze. “It’d be much appreciated if we stayed away from the cold, although I’d never dream of bothering you…”
Finding the man now strapped in behind her, she smiled as his arms snaked around her to the handles. She put her own hands on his strong arms and followed them down until she was holding onto his hands as if helping him hold on.
While she’d ridden a handful of times before, she was not ready for the power being the bronze’s takeoff and she gripped the hands before her tightly. Once the initial leap was over, however, she quickly lost whatever tension there might have been in her muscles and was twisting this way and that to see everything available to her sight. The power in Kaunth’s strokes thrilled her and she couldn’t imagine a stronger being on Pern.

P'resh felt her hands tighten on his own, used his thumb to caress her thumb on top of his. After they got in the air, she released the tension, and he knew she was enjoying herself.
Kaunth, fly over the Weyr, please. But keep the sun out of her eyes so she can see it, he instructed the bronze. Kaunth obeyed silently, altering the shift of his wings slightly to the left to wheel to the Weyr's face in the bowl. As the dragon did so, P'resh tightened his grip on the handles.
"What do you think?" he said loudly, yelling so she could hear him over the rushing winds.

Amoare’s face was light with delight as they wheeled over the bowl. Twisting this way and that to find the best view, she finally twisted to see P’resh’s face. To answer his question, she showed off her flexibility by kissing him. “I love it!”
Turning back to gaze at the view some more, she no longer held on, trusting completely in the riding straps and the strong arms around her. “I know this will be my favorite part of being a dragon rider.” she shouted back at him.

Laughing, P'resh guided her hands back to the handles after he kissed her back. "I'm glad, but you have to hold on to the handles. H'mei would skin me alive if you dropped from this height," he told her, smiling and kissing the back of her head, nestling hs nose into her sweet hair, now just damp.
Alright, Kaunth, let's do a bit of mountain flying, P'resh said, giving a picture in his mind of where he wanted to go, still flying straight.
As they turned, white snow dazzled P'resh's eyes, and a beautiful sight filled his eyes. The clouds around them were moist and foggy, and yet, pleasing on his newly sunburnt skin.

Amoare laughed as she held on once again, “I’ve no fear of that. I trust you and Kaunth and the straps.” Letting herself lightly lean against the man behind her, she now looked around at eye level. To the south stood the mountains, forever capped with snow where farther down sat the Weyr. To the north stretched a multi-colored land that eventually faded into the distance leaving what lay beyond a mystery.
Finding herself thankful for the summer season, Amoare was still surprised at the chill as the air whipped past. It wasn’t yet bothersome, just enough to wake her up. Should they have moved any higher she’d have grown uncomfortable quickly in her damp cloths.
Watching the edge of the Weyr pass beneath her, Amoare turned again and shouted a question at P’resh. “Where are we going?” curiosity colored her voice for not the first time today.

"Oh, I don't know. Flying," he told her, laughing. "Thought we'd do a bit of sightseeing. Is that bad?" he asked, not really concerned it was one. She seemed to be enjoying herself well enough, and that was all that mattered at this point.
Just wait till she see's what is in the weyr, he thought. He was excited about the present. It had taken him forever to find and get back to the weyr.
You jut better hope she doesn't sneeze whenshe sees it, Kaunth told him. He hadn't been pleased when carrying it back, and being reminded of it made him grumpy. P'resh just laughed, knowing that the dragon would eventually forget that it had even happened.
Will not, the dragon told him staunchly.

Feeling the chest behind her move up and down with laughter tickled her back and she couldn’t help but join in, wiggling to help sooth the tickle-ness. “No I think its great!” she said looking around once again.
Twisting around, she leaned heavily on P’resh’s arm to see behind him and watch the great wings at work. Everything was fascinating her and she couldn’t help but move around trying to satisfy her curiosity.

P'resh moved his arm into what would be a more comfortable position for Amoare to lean into and still managed to keep a good hold onto the handles of the straps. He smiled, and he was feeling pretty good about this whole trip, glad he had thought it up.
Remembering how she had said she'd never set foot out of the Weyr, he grinned. He didn't have to take her all the way to the jungle and risk making them both miss dinner. He could just take her to the foot of the mountain and show her the forests and the lake.
Kaunth, take us down to the foot of the mountain, please, he instructed.
Will you decide where you want to go? Please? the large dragon said grouchily.
Aww, is the ickle dwaggy tired? Does he need a na-yup? P'resh teased. Kaunth turned his head to look at his rider, eyes glowing yellow and an odd green-brown color. P'resh laughed, and Kaunth snorted.
You'll regret that tonight, the dragon informed the rider.
As they neared the bottom of the mountain, the tall tress came into view, as well as the sun sparkling off of the large lake. It was quite a bit warmer down there, and he grinned. They had been up so far that his short, damp hair had begun to freeze a bit. He could only imagine how Amoare was feeling. Kaunth landed by the lake and dipped his shoudler, a cue for them to get off. P'resh laaughed at the dragon's impudence again, and hopped down first, and then helped down his companion. Kaunth departed for the lake.

Amoare’s eyes grew wide as the tree line neared; painted gold in the summer’s setting sun. The lake before her stretched so far that the other side was not to be seen from the ground. For a brief moment she wondered if this was the ocean, but then she remembered the maps she had seen and knew they had not traveled far enough for it to be.
Mouth open in wonder, she was speechless as she too P’resh’s hands and slid from the bronze’s neck. After completing a full spin to take in everything around her she came back around to see the bronzer. Smiling at him, she found her voice again. “This is amazing P’resh! Look at the size of that lake! The Weyr could fit in that a thousand times I bet!”

Grinning at her surprise, he took her in his arms and hugged her. "I'm glad you like it," he told her, smiling down at her. He never really noticed how little she looked in his arms, or how much cuteness there was to behold in her beauty. The falling sun's last rays shimmered in her dark hair and glinted in her blue eyes. Her skin, so light against his own, was washed a more reddish-gold color. He leaned to kiss her.
"Wait until you see what I planned for your surprise," he told her, becoming excited. "That's why I had to keep you out of the Weyr this afternoon, and I took you fliyng." Realizing his mistake, he added, "And I thought you might like flying."
He sat down, his thighs hurting from all the flying he'd done that day. He'd had to fly home straight from the jungle with the present, and Kaunth was angry with him for making him transport the...cargo.
He won't even remember by tomorrow, P'resh thought.
Yes I will, came the reply. P'resh laughed.
