What kind of Site?
A futuristic (non cannon) Pern site where Thread has destroyed the Northern Continent and the survivors move to a smaller, new continent in the hopes of surviving. Only one Weyr and two Holds. Original story and plot.
Difficultly level?
Advanced. Complete sentences and proper grammer. Longer posts appreciated.
Past(plot):
It was towards the end of the last pass, though the number is now lost to those who are alive, that disaster struck Pern like never before. Customarily, the Dragon Riders rose to fight thread, searing the parasite from the sky before it could burrow into the ground and destroy all that the population had worked for. But where as previously the Thread fell for a specific time… It didn’t stop. Dragons fell from the sky, too tired to try and fight for their Weyr and Holds. Even though they tried to compensate by rotating the Wings, it was too much. Thread managed to slip through gaps in the formations and burrowed into the ground, destroying crops and beast alike. So started the destruction of the Northern Continent.
Those in the Holds ran to their safety and watched their world collapse around them. The Fall was too heavy, too thick, and the Dragon Riders couldn’t handle it. With a Thread infestation, it was obvious they would need to leave. Devastated to find the other Weyr’s had been obliterated by Fall, those that survived were gathered at Fort Weyr, where a major relocation plan was drawn up. By the calculations done by some of the more experienced survivors, they had a fortnight to find some where else. The North was lost and it was suspected that the other continents wouldn’t be any better off.
A small crack team of the more experienced Dragon Riders set out to explore their world and hope to find a place that they could resettle, without having to try and take the land back from a Thread infestation. The North was lost, and they knew it. They didn’t have enough experienced Riders to meet the next Thread Fall. They had to run.
Of the 18 experienced Riders that went Between to find another home, 14 returned. All of them but one said they hadn’t found any habitable place. The one said he’d found a smaller land mass off of the Southern Continent. There was an inactive, partially destroyed volcano that could serve as the new Weyr. A thick jungle covered most of the small continent but there was enough of a meadow to save what herdbeasts and runnerbeasts they could. Without any other options, the relocation began.
And the rest is History.
Present (description):
Now, the Weyr has survived on the smaller continent. An interval has passed before the Red Star looms closer. The Weyr is barely large enough to protect the small continent though it doesn’t have to oversee the protection of the Jungle. Within the jungle are ravenous, mutated fire lizards that are more like Dragons. They evolved to actually eat Thread. At one point during an interval, domestication of this species was attempted… and ended horribly. The species is too feral to hope to tame and will not communicate with Dragons. There have been several reported cases of these feral beasts attacking Dragons and Riders. They’ve been named Hunters, as they work in ‘packs’ and will hunt and kill anything, to include Thread. Of course, this fact has been lost over the ages, and so the Hunters are simply a menace that inhabits the jungles. Without Thread Fall, the creatures feed on anything they can. A small wild species of deer like creatures live in the jungle as well and are the main food source of the Hunters.
