Hanen, suddenly felt a gentle hand on his shoulder, looking he saw Zylaeara's words forming. He nodded and gave her a smile. He wouldn't follow what others weree doing just because they were doing it. What other people did was not important, everythign relied on what the angry dragonet wanted, which at this point could be none of the boys who were crowding him. Didn't they see that the dragonet was unhappy...at least he could see the angry orange eyes from here. Looking at Zylaera and Rylene he hoped none of them would go crazy when the greens styarted hatching. He was prepared to restrain them himself, though he had found the candidates were less likely to stand and wait as the Weyrbrats were. Perhaps he had nothign to fear where his friends safety was concerned.

Kistana's mouth worked silently, her breath caught in her chest. They...they couldn't get hurt, right? That hadn't happened in turns, right? Right?
Emotions swirled around the dragonet, it seemed, but inside Kistana's head they poured out. First, she was angry at the boys for not taking care of themselves and for approaching the baby dragon. She knew they weren't stupid! Was it just a trance? She avoided the dragonets eyes after that thought popped into her head. She couldn't, ever, ever get hurt, right? She was a leader type, the one who listened but commanded. The ones in charge were too protected to get hurt, right? But then again, not all of her friends or accquantices would aknowledge her as a leader-type.
Instead of having a heart attack, Kistana breathed deeply, concentrating on willing that the Dragonling Impressed quickly and hurt no one, especially not itself. If it hurt itself, Kistana could never live with herself. She couldn't. She'd find a way to mark herself as responsible for injury or death of the dragonet. No, she couldn't Impress it but she could will it to Impress. Could Dragons read minds? Kistana frantically willed it to Impress, but deep down knew she was simply overeacting.

((Sorry I haven't had time to get online in like a week))
Verity made it to the hatching on time, and was standing patiently, waiting for hers. She watched as two blues and a brown Impressed the other candidates, and then as another, angry young dragon hatched. She watched, concerned, as the boys started to approach it. She wasn't afraid for herself, nor was she intimidated by the dragonet. She was only concerned for the safety of the boys. Oh no, someone will get hurt. What if the dragonet kills someone? But I guess that is the chance we take when we Stand. Verity's thoughts were only thoughts; she didn't let them affect her mood. She was too excited. The thoughts that mattered were the ones about the dragonet that would be hers. She wanted to Impress so badly, and hoped she wouldn't have to wait until the next clutch.

Neither Tomar nor Temor new if Dragons could read the minds of any others but there bonded. But both took two steps forward at the same time sending he poor little hatchlings feeling of welcome and love from there respective minds. They where not so foolish as to rush the newly born dragon for no mater how young they had both lived at the weyr long enough to see candidates much older and tougher then them killed in their hast to impress.
But neither would they stand idly by and let those braver soles around them walk off bonded. Temor thought of his mother and of his conversation with the wingleader by the feeding pens. Would he impress and make a difference in the coming turns? Tomar for his part thought of things less serious but just as important in his mind. His father was a dragonrider and all his life he had watched those around him grow up and impress, and now it was his turn, his turn to find the one who would love him despite his flaws in size and personality. His green and blue eyes spackled with a grim determination that matched the brown orbs of his much grimmer friend.

The hatchling bugled out a challenge as the two white things came at him. His mind searched, but the first was not His. Confusion and anger consumed him as he reached out with a foreleg his intent to move the first lad out of the way. Blood sprayed out as an artery was struck. Candidates standing near by soon found that their white robes now were also crimson. The dark dragonet blinked as the warm liquid splashed across his face and neck as his claws dug into the soft flesh of the candidate’s belly.
In the background of the carnage, three more hatchlings split their shells. The fifth to hatch was a small green, then a larger sister and a blue. The first and smaller hatchling green creeled out her hunger and stumbled through a crowd of boys trying to make her way to her ‘One.’ She was hidden somewhere in the mass of living chaos, but she was there.
The second green had a harder time; she shattered her shell but one large shard and the membrane stayed lodged to her muzzle making it hard for her to see. The hatchling squealed out in fear and took off in a rather awkward lope around the sands, butting into Sulod and Moelm in the process…
Y’undo, why do you fear your Teloth? The blue nudged the small lad with his muzzle. I wouldn’t hurt Mine. The boy of 13 turns stood where he was, unable to move as a look of first shock and then total rapture edged it’s way onto his frozen face. “Teloth?”

Verity stood perfectly still, letting the blood fall on her robes, and not even considering her burning feet. She couldn't even feel them anymore.
Looking out at the two greens, she hoped that one of them was meant for her. She wasn't ready to be anything more than a green rider, and she didn't want to have to wait for another hatching. Clearing all of her thoughts, she put all of her energy into one thing. I'm right here. Here, waiting for you. If it is me, I'm right here. Right here... She never stopped repeating those words. She kept her eyes wide open; watching the small green and the large green who was running in a circle.

Hanen watched the confused dark dragonet as he injured the first candidate to approach him . He was not suprised at the outcome. Someday people may begin to use common sense but until that day more Candidates would be hurt at Hatchings. To be honest Hanen found the other boys a bit stupid for even thinking in those terms. Sometimes one needed to look at things from a different point of view. They must know nothing about dragons to have approached one so angry. Still he knew the hatchling had not found his, and in the back of his mind there was a glimmer of hope. When the blue hatched and impressed it was good to see that there were some dragonets who found theirs so quickly. Each one had to know whom they were looking for but, as in the case of the larger dragonet, people could slow them up and get in their way. It was much worse when Golds hatched. Hanen remembered girls getting scared and others who simply got in the way. The screaming was always there. He did notice the two greens hatch, and though neither had chosen their life mate yet, he knew they would.
As always he thought of his friends. Zylaera and Rylene must be excited at seeing two greens. They had been waiting for ages. Personally, Hanen wasn't sure he could take the suspense of the large possibly Bronze hatchling. Bronzes must need more time to consider the possibilitie.s. Who knows maybe he would find his shortly. Hanen would like to think himself worthy of such a dragon, however it was always up to the dragon, which was what he kept telling himself. It took some willpower not to stand with the other boys, so close to the dragonet, and still more not to rush over to teh injured boy. 'Thats why they have healers...'

Zylaera could have clapped as the greens hatched. She unconciously moved a few feet closer to the smaller one, who had hatched fairly close to her in the begining, but stopped when she realized what she was doing. She was falling into the same trap of the boys and wanted that to stop immediatly. She stood still, on her toes to be ready for anything, and sent out the strongest feelings of love and welcoming to the two greens. Come, little ones, come if i am to be yours. Do not be lost, you can find me. She expressed passionatly. She willed one of them, as hard as she could, to turn towards her, catch her eye and pronounce itself Hers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Orfinion gasped as blood splattered his white robe! Oh no, it was not supposed to go that way. He cringed at the poor boy, wanting to help but still rooted to the spot He was dangerously close to the angry, dark dragon, and although he still felt a glimmer of hope that the hatchling could be his, the tendrils of terror were creeping with meticulous suffocation into his mind.
Rylene gapped in horror at all of the blood. She couldn't do anything to help. She even felt usless. Rylene knw that this might have happened but she had hoped it hadn't. Rylene swallowed hard trying to keep her stomach from rolling around so much. She took a few steps back away from all the blood that dark dragnet had drawn from the young Candidate. She was quite surprised though to see Zylaera take a step or 2 forward, until she spotted the small green. Hope, excitment and fear raced through her. Could that green be for her! Rylene watched mesmerized, though in the back of her mind she knew that she had to keep all of her wits about her. She didn't want to end up hurt like the young boy inhead of her. "Zylaera be careful." Rylene said. She didn't want to see Zylaera get hurt either.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Monara simply stepped away from the blood and wounded Candidate. She had seen blood before, and wasn't going to feak out about it. Though she hadn't expected such a thing to happen. She had heard rumors of Candidates killed or badly injured during hatchings. But they had just been rumors, or so she had thought. Personally she didn't blame the baby dragnet. Choosing a Candiate was it own choice and that couldn't, and should't, be forced, which was what those crowding around the dragnet had been trying to make it do. She watched Zylaera take a few steps toward a small green that had hatched, and then heard Rylene call her warning to Zylaera. Seeing what had just happned with the other Candidate, Monara wasn't just about to go walking up to any of the hatchlings. It was their choice. Seeing another larger green Monara fixed her eyes on it and began think, or try to think, nice thoughts. Though she doubted the large green would notice her this soon, she seemed to be having trouble and bumping into other Candidates. Monara seeing this prepared to dart out of the way if she had to. Someone should help the green. But who would dare try?

The boys fell back a step as blood filed the air in a morbid mist. Someone in the crowed screamed and both sets of eyes widened. They had known something like this was going to happen, they had imagined it happening, but they still where not prepared to see it. Not looking at each other both boys made to move for the boy. Tomar stopped however as out of the corner of his eye three more eggs hatched, two green and one blue.
The blue impressed quickly and the smaller green disappeared into the crowed, “wait Temor,” Tomar stopped his eyes on the larger green wobbling frantically in circles, despite that she was beautiful, he had always favored greens with their agility and speed. But why was she acting that way? It was as if… “She can’t see right.” Finally noticing the bit of shell stuck in her mussel with the green icor dripping onto the sands, Tomar lost his fear. He didn’t see a dangerous agree dragon but a hurt confused hatchling.
Changing directions the young man who looked so much like a small child stepped quickly forward, speaking words of comfort to the poor green, “its ok, young one, I’m just going to help you then you can find your ‘one’” now rather close Tomar slowed his pace his miss matched eyes shining with determination, not to impress but to help, if only she could see she could find her ‘one.’ He took another step closer, “you have a bit of shell in front of your eye don’t be afraid.” Another step closer…
Temor did not hear his friends exclamation, didn’t even notice he had stopped moving towards the fallen boy until he was there, alone. Why wasn’t anyone helping? The healers wouldn’t dare come onto the sands until the hatching was over for fear of interrupting the hatchlings and angering the great gold hovering over all of them. Clenching his teeth in fear of not only the dark dragon but also of leaving the sands alone for his meddling Temor continued to move anyway.
Grabbing the fallen boy under the arms Temor labored to pull him away from the dragon and the people. It was hard work the boy being twice Temors size but soon the young drudge gone candidate had the boy away from the angry hatchling. just a little further Temor pulled faster moving the boy closer to the door and the healers; he just hoped someone would come and get him soon so he could return to the sands.

Zylaera's face reverted back to its usual confident good humor as she flashed Rylene, "Don't worry, i'm quick on my feet." She whsipered out of the side of her mouth, a smile suddenly spreading across her face. Hatchings were supposedto be fun, weren't they? Why was she so worked up. As long as she was quick and kept her midn focused she wouldn't get hurt. This was a miracle, a day of new beginigns for Faranth's sake. She turned even more of her efforts towards the small green. but not forgetting the larger one ever. She sent her message of welcoming, love and companionship with every fiber in her body. Every single one of the tiny itty bitties she was made up of were urging the greens towards her.She didn't really know if they could sense her will, but dragons were always full of surprises.

Kistanal grinned widely as a Green..and another finally tumbled out, but when blood sprayed, she cringed as it splattered her robes, right around her hips. A odd thought crossed her mind as she glanced at the crimson fluid-- it looked so beautifully deadly, intricatly designed on her Whites. She wanted ever so much to help the boy, but the Dragonet! Her will's battled. A chance at Impression, or maybe saving a life. The two almost tied. Kistana couldn't move even if she wanted to, though. The Green...oh, she wanted to Impress! She stared with longing into the the Dragonet's eyes, but suddenly she could stand it no more.
A healer! floated to her consciousness, but the will to Impress took over. She wanted to help the boy....But what if she got pulled off? And she probably couldn't help to much, anyway. Riders and a healer would come, right? But there was a thought that gently swept into her mind. If the Dragonet wanted her, she would find her. But her feet stayed rooted, even as a delicate hand reached to help the boy in some fashion; she could not resist the pull of looking into the Dragonet's eyes. Her orb's flitted to the newer hatchling-a piece of shell obstructed it's vision.

Verity watched, realizing that there were more girl candidates than she had thought. Despair entered her mind, but she tried to force it away. Ok, let it go. So what, I'm just as qualified as they are. Ok...I'm here, young dragon, your lifemate, your one. I'm here, standing among the rest. I'm here... she thought over and over and over again, until the despair went away and the calling, companionship thoughts consumed her mind.
Verity watched as one boy picked up the injured one. She remained detached from the entire scene, thinking solely on Impressing. She spared no one an extra thought; taking everything in as though she were watching it from the sky, an unknown observer watching an unfamiliar ceremony. However, the hatching was not unfamiliar to her, but taking everything in like this helped keep her focus.

The small green could feel hers as she wondered through the crowd of white but she still couldn‘t locate her exactly. Butting into a dark haired girl she stumbled, taking them both down to the hot sands. The light green cried out again, hurt and afraid that she had lost hers. Then she saw her One… ‘Perfect.’ Her eyes locked with the blond as she picked herself up and shuffled in a half walk half gallop toward the candidate.
Hearing a voice in the black void the large green turned only to find the piece of shell being lifted from her eyes by the most handsome creature she had ever seen, the first creature she had ever seen. Joy swept over the hatchling as she side stepped away from the small lad with the soothing voice and found hers. Hal’on, Trymuth thanks you.
Blood colored the sands as the dark dragonet cut a path through the press of young men; several would never rise from where they fell. None seemed suitable to the harsh youngling, then one other, wither brave or foolish stepped out into the Malay of gore. The young man wanted to stop the carnage that was taking place of course, but above all…he wanted the young dragon for his own. When the pair made eye contact it was decided. The candidate was worthy to be his chosen…the mind merge was formed… I am Corbith and K'lan, you are worthy of a bronze.

Hanen watched as teh young green tumbled into a candidate and made impression. He wondered which would be next adn while he was not paying attention the Bronze dragonet impressed. He was glad that it wasn't going to be impaling any more people but slightly heavy hearted that no dragon had even acknowledged his existence. It was harder to stand than he had originally thought. Having to wait, the suspense and then seeing someone else walk off the sands with what could have been yours. If he did not impress he could see how depressign it could be. The heavy hearted, missed out on an oppurtinity for greatness, feeling that he hated.
He wondered if the dragons knew who they wanted exactly before they even hatched or if it was just a quality that a person possesed. Well in any case none of the dragons thus far had been for him, he could tell that they were all well matched. He was watching Zylaera hoping that she was being careful. He did not want to end up visiting her int he infirmary after this rather than dancing at the feast.
He watched the last green hoping she would ahve no trouble finiding hers. Hanen realized that most people here had stood at least once before. Not everyone impressed their first time, he knew that. It didn't stop him from hoping he would never have to go through the agony of waiting again.
