Mother, Jaylah: age 62, a Creche nanny. She spends all her time looking after the babies of the Weyr, after all what would all the riders do if they had babies clinging to them. She enjoys children but hates seeing them have to grow detached from their mothers and fathers so young. Still it is the way things must be so she follows tradition.
Father, Demorill, age 71, a drudge and a hard worker. Loves working at the Weyr and seeing the dragons. Concentrates more on the little things in life. Though he has not really ever spent much time with his children he does appreciate that he has them.
Brothers on his mother's side
Jareny, age 41 turns. a drudge at Lateo. Tends to work with heavy labor type things, unloading supplies and things of that nature. Has his own four children and a mate. He is very loyal to the Weyr.
Jakendar, Age 33 Turns. A journeyman smith. Lives at Lateo Weyrhold. Enjoys his work, but hates to think about not impressing a dragon. Something he always wanted to do, like the rest of the children that grow up at the Weyr. He now has two children, both daughters. No mate, as he is more of the promiscuous type.
Brothers on fathers side:
Sademer, age 52 turns. Lives in the Weyr, helps with the animals mostly assisting the beastcrafters, as a drudge. It is a good position for a Weyrdrudge, and the beastcrafters seem to want to keep him around. He has no children as his mate is barren.
Sisters on mother's side"
Janay, age 39. A drudge, mated to a blue rider. Has five children, three girls, two boys. She raised them as a simple drudge can, and also fostered a couple of other children once hers got older.
Sisters on Father's side
Kadeni, age 46 Turns. Lives in a small cothold not far from Lateo. Doesn't general visit the weyr so he does not know really anything about her except that she exists.
Demora: age 41 Turns. Weyr drudge at Lateo. Mated to a Kitchen drudge, they have four children, all of which are girls. She and her brother get along well.
Feademi, age 34 Turns. Apprentice beastcrafter, lives at the Beastcraft workshop near Lateo. mated to a journeyman there. They have two children one boy and one girl. Both have taken interest in the craft at an early age.
Children:
Jadeceli: age 14 turns. A happy girl with dark hair like her father and hazel eyes like her mother. She was fostered out to a Holder family in Terra Hold. She is very happy there and though she knows of her father she never sees him.
Pets: a petite feline weighing no more than 4 or 5 pounds. She was born a runt and well he couldn't allow her to die, so he kept her. She has golden eyes and soft bunny like fur. Her ears often get sunburned if she goes out in the summer months. She has a gray patch on her head and a light gray tip on her tail.
Appearance:
Dashing, yes, he could be described as dashing. He has black hair that is cropped short, no facial hair and you will rarely see him with any sort of hair growing on his face, he tries to keep himself neat and clean. No need to have extra hair around. He has brown eyes that could make the heart melt as they hold a sadness that no one quite understands.
He stands at an even 6 feet and weighs about 180 lbs. He has a long upper body and a slim waistline. Women often like to watch him walk because he has a very attractive butt. His legs are not long in proportion to his body but they are not short either. He has a great deal of muscle from how much he devotes himself to working out.
The man rarely wears anything that would look bad. He has pants that are not tight nor are they loose, but seem to sit on his waist perfectly. Generally he wears clean cut long sleeved shirts in the winter and nice short sleeved shirts in the summer. ((If he were on earth I'd say give him some sunglasses and a red sports car....a Bronze dragon is close enough...lol))
Along with his put together look he has an interesting nose that is thinner at the top and then spreads out a little where the nostrils are. J’mie’s mouth is usually closed as smiling does not come quickly to him. His eyebrows are a bit bushy compared to his face, so he tries to thin them out when he has time. J'mie has a look of someone overly determined, eternally sad, yet always on top of things.
Personality:
J’mie is a driven individual so to speak. There is no time for fun, when you have so much that you need to get done. He tends to focus on the negative often falling into bouts of depression. Despite his attractive appearance he can be more demanding of himself than he needs to be. A perfectionist to an extreme he wants everything to be the way it should be or he gets a bit crazy. He is as haughty as any Bronze rider and as always thinks himself very important.
He dislikes some of the other Bronze riders, especially the leaders of the other wings, though he will of course follow the Weyrleader no matter who it is. He does enjoy other peoples company especially that of the female gender be they riders, drudges or even Candidates. His favorite past time is to go through old records, as boring as they may seem. He understands strategy very well and tends to be one of the more clever Bronze riders.
There is something that lingers in the back of his mind that causes him to think ill of himself. J’mie has yet to get over certain things in his past though only one of them affects his daily life. Most of the time he is easy to get along with. With his wing he likes to lead by example, though it is not always easy to do. J’mie has dreams of one day catching a Queen though, his dragon is not the fastest or the strongest but he is the cleverest.
History:
Jademie was born in the Lower Caverns as an ordinary birth. His mother a simple Crèche worker and his father a drudge; he was raised as all children are supposed to be in the Weyr. He spent little time with his mother and father, and was raised under the belief that the Weyr comes before anything an individual may want. They were a collective spirit in a way and had to be kept that way through tradition. At about the age of seven Turns, Jademie began doing drudge work and things for the Weyr. He hated drudgery, more than anything he wanted to be a Dragonrider. He could listen to the ballads of the heroic riders all day and never tire of them.
Neither of his parents had been riders and as he grew older he learned that only one member of his family that he would have the privilege of knowing had been a dragonrider and that was his grandfather, L’resh of blue Damorth. This made him become a bit pessimistic to the idea and he soon moved on, so that he might get something out of his life as a Weyrbrat. He was born a demanding individual. He seemed to command the attention of his friends without saying anything but by respecting them they all respected him and knew him to be a leader. He also grew to be a big favorite with the girls as he was generally too cool for any of them.
Jademie grew up in Lateo with the dream of impressing and the crushing idea that he might never achieve it. With no craft to back him up he worried that he would be relegated to drudgery his entire life. One thing he could not bear to do. So the young boy began looking into what types of things he could do as a drudge that might satisfy him. He took up an interest in the more time consuming things, like organizing the records room. As a perfectionist he did these things well enough that they let him continue with it.
As a preteen Jademie should have gotten into trouble more often than he did…see the good kids just never get caught. He was not into pranks as much as his peers but liked to sneak down to the Hatching sands and see if there was a Clutch. If he were a dragon rider he would be the best one there was. To be the best he would have to impress a Bronze. So Jademie set his eyes on one of the most prized positions of the Weyr, had his set his goals too high? He often wondered but knew there could be nothing else for him. He was destined to do great things not just drudgery.
When he turned thirteen he stood on the Hatching Grounds for the first time as a potential candidate for the new Hatchlings. He did not impress this time around and left feeling utterly lost and depressed, how could he have not gotten what he had dreamed of for so long. Shortly Jademie fell into a depression, only to be brought out of it by a most beautiful girl. He had seen her several times as a Weyrbrat but suddenly he was feeling a bit differently about girls. Normally he would brush them off as just acquaintances. This girl was certainly different. At the age of fourteen turns, Jademie fell in love with a young drudge named Veralyn. For a first love they did all the right things, being cute, sweet and all the other things that seemed to go with that. Of course this relationship did not last as long as forever, as Veralyn ended it a turn later. She said she needed to have some space and time…in other words she had fallen for someone else. Now Jademie was fifteen turns. He had only stood on the Hatching sands once and was as part of trying to be happy again standing again.
Jademie was dressed in white robes and looking up at the Golden Queen Ulmerath, wishing only to be chosen by one of her darling children. As each egg hatched he hoped beyond hope that one would be his. As he was watching a brown impress to a friend of his he almost missed the most important moment of his life. The commanding, intelligent, Bronze Hatchling looked at Jademie with flawlessly blue eyes. I knew I’d find you here.
“Did you just say something?” He asked one of the boys next to him who shook their head no but was staring straight at the bronze behind the oblivious Jademie. “Perhaps you should be asking him that…”The other boy said angrily.
“Hello there. Did you say something?” He asked the Bronze in no way used to talking to dragons. I’m Gavanth and you are my rider, my comrade, my confidante and soon to be the person who feeds and looks after me. J’mie, you and I are going to do great things.
This can’t be happening. How did I end up impressing the best Bronze in all of Pern. Gavanth, we shall get you something to eat shortly. We simply need to follow the others off the sands.
The young Bronze Hatchling took a moment to look back at the Golden Ulmerath. He knew he had chosen well but looked back to simply see the great Queen who had given him life. Someday I want to look that empowering.
You will soon enough. First we will have our first lesson on feeding you.
After Impressing there were only one or two other bronzes in his clutch but he really didn’t care about them. He was focused on becoming one of the best and to do that he and Gavanth had to train a lot. He was exceptional at the written work they had to do and things that required a bit of finesse, but he wasn’t the strongest Weyrling in the Weyr. He and Gavanth made up for their lack of strength with an exceptional mind. Gavanth had no trouble identifying each and every dragon and rider he ever met after seeing them just once. Both of them were exceptional studies when it came to between travel and soon learned how to do it in the correct form so as not to crash into anyone. They also had a gift with the females of their class. Not that they paid much attention but they were without a doubt the most handsome duo in the group.
As graduation came J’mie was put into the Luna wing as a simple Wingrider. He remained there for about four turns before transferring to Desta Wing as Wingsecond. While time seemed to fly for him, he remained eternally loyal to the Weyr and never cared which wing he was in but rather what would best benefit the Weyr. Gavanth and he became one of the best Bronze pairs in the Weyr and it wasn’t long before the older wingriders began to see in him a rising star. During this time J’mie falls in love a second time with a woman in the lower caverns. They became Weyrmates and soon were on the way to having their first child. J’mie loved Celinde more than he could ever say. The blonde haired beauty was enamored with him as well and it was very easy to see how happy they truly were. Celinde did make it through her first pregnancy without a problem and the baby was born alive and healthy. Their daughter was left to be cared for by the Creche and then later fostered out.
J’mie was not prepared for the next two large events in his life. First of which, Celinde died. She died as a result of an accident, something that could never have been prevented but for which J’mie feels guilty. Celinde was the one person in his life that truly mattered and losing her was like taking out a part of him that he didn’t believe could ever come back. This is still true for him in the present. From that day forward, J’mie has been a more melancholy person and when he does let a rare smile slip from his face he seems normal.
The second large event happened right around his thirtieth birthday. Four turns after Celinde died. J’mie is now Wingleader of the Desta Wing. He chooses to lead more by example than by words alone. He expects everyone in his wing to be respectful of each other as well as himself and the Wingseconds. His perfectionist side comes out during drills where if people are not doing them properly they all have to do them till said people get it right. He has now been Wingleader for six turns and enjoys his post greatly. He finds it easy to organize his wing and is generally right on when it comes to drills. His only wish now is to continue the traditions of the Weyr and make sure his wing is prepared for thread. He does not share in the competitiveness that most the Wingleaders have about the games. He dislikes the games because dragons die there and it’s a waste.
Dragon Information
Name: Gavanth
Color: Bronze
Age: 21 Turns
Description:
Average sized Bronze with a very metallic sheen to him. He has a rather distinct form, as he has a smaller wingspan than his counterparts. He is not necessarily the best looking Bronze on Pern. His tail is long and tend to curl at the end when he is relaxing. He is lighter in color on his belly and from under his chin down his neck to his belly. He is usually in a complacent looking mood.
Personality:
Gavanth is no exception when it comes to Bronze personality. He can be a bit cocky and generally has no problem exerting his authority. People tend to see him as a lesser Bronze due to his average size, but if it were not the size Bronzes were supposed to be then it wouldn’t be called the average. In any case Gavanth soon proves them wrong with his cleverness and attitude. He could always flame them if he really wanted too…
The Bronze tends to keep his rider from his depression more often than not. He also seems to be more and more interested in flying Queens. He has yet to participate in a queen flight, first because of Celinde and then because of her death. He wants his rider to move on…which he constantly informs him he must do. He loves drilling the wing and has a lot of fun coming up with new wing formations with J’mie…they were good strategists after all.
History:
Gavanth broke free of his shell a whole 21 turns ago. A few dragons had hatched before him including a brown that had been getting a lot of attention. He went in search of his quietly; no one seemed to notice the large hatchling right away, least of all was J’mie. Of course he would put that to an end…approaching the boy from behind he spoke
I knew I’d find you here. J’mie seemed to think that he was not there, but another boy, a mean one that Gavanth didn’t like showed him that Gavanth was the one speaking. After Impressing his, Gavanth was very happy.
He wanted to be one of the best Bronzes in the weyr from a very early stage. He was one of the best Weyrlings in his class because he was the smartest, not that he let it get to his head or anything. When they were assigned to their fist wing, Gavanth enjoyed learning about working with a Wing and then after doing that for a few turns they were promoted to Wingsecond in Desta Wing. Gavanth liked that position because he learned much more about running a wing. When the old Wingleader retired from that position, he and J’mie were chosen as Wingleaders. Nothing gave the Bronze more joy than being Wingleader and even now he likes working drills and doing anything and everything to get the wing ready. They may not have the best reputation in the Weyr but that needed to change. Perhaps if J’mie would let him fly a Gold…
