The eggs were quite hard now that they ad been warmed well and placed near a fire that never would go out as long as the eggs needed warmth. Galeden's favorite canine sat at the door, ears perked for any sign of footfalls approaching his Lord's study. Galeda, though her intentions were to stay awake till the eggs hatched had fallen asleep on the floor. Galeden had left her there, she was comfortable there and this way he could wake her to watch the eggs hatch.
He sat quietlyin his chair listening to the crackling of the fire and reading some reports that had been given him earlier that evening. He wasn't too concerned with the current state of the beastcraft or anything that important this late at night, but rather his own private stables having contracted an illness. His runners were in a bad state. He had had to cancel all Gather prep just to keep people from spreading the disease with their own runners.
It couldn't be helped. This gave him more time to watch his newest acquisitions. The two eggs were sitting comfortably on a sort surface. He had contemplated bringing in some sand but figured any warm soft surface would suffice. He was waiting for a visit from Master Yeltin and his egg. Galeden would need his guidance for this particular matter...He did have servants at the ready if food was required even in the middle of the night.

The old harper had fallen asleep next to his own fire, his lute across his lap and one hand resting on the egg near the fire where the heat kept it rather warm. The warmth on his hand, however, had done nothing to help keep the harper awake. No matter, however, as he could feel the exact moment the egg shuddered ever so slightly beneath his touch.
A light sleeper, the harper jumped and dropped his lute on the floor as he looked for what had awaken him. After nearly a full minute passed and he still failed to find the culprit, he closed his eyes again only to snap them open just as quickly. Looking at the egg, the next shudder came sooner and he cursed himself silently under his breath as he scooped up the little egg along with the heated material it had been resting upon and rushed out the door.
The egg shuttered again, harder this time and Yeltin knew he was in trouble. He shouldn’t have fallen asleep! In a hurry, the harper opened the door to the Lord Holder’s study without a knock and jumped, nearly dropping the precious egg, at the sight of the canine just on the other side.
“Lord Galeden…” he said breathlessly as he adjusted his hold upon the egg. “Food if you please… I think its time.”

"Sorry about that Master Yeltin." Galeden apologized calling the canine away from the door and motioning to a seat for the older man. He made a movement to what appeared to be no one. a man clad in black left the room silently. His bodyguards, the Nirav, took excellent care at protecting him. "Food should be here any moment now." Galeden said lightly.
Getting up from his own chair the man bent down where his daughter slept and kissed her forehead gently. She didn't wake so he left her sleeping. He'd rather she got a goodnight's sleep than see the hatching of the eggs ... who knew, maybe she would have another chance. Out of the three eggs one was bound to be female. Then there would be another clutch... even if it was green.
He watched as one of his eggs began to shake. The small vibrations came first followed by larger ones. The second still seemed to be peaceful. He hopd it wasn't going to have issues hatching. That would be hard to explain to his daughter...having the egg never hatch. It was at this point a kitchen drudge entered with the requested food types... meatrolls and the like. Then poured both Galeden and Yeltin a cup of warm klah.

The harper did not think twice about the strange movement toward the shadowcast wall as he had lived at Keroon for a number of years now and was use to the behavior that always ended up with one thing or another happening. Taking the offered seat, Yeltin was careful to lay the egg in his lap, glancing up only to look to the Lord Holder’s eggs. Yes, one of them had begun to shake as well.
Looking back at his own, cracks were forming along its surface in an irregular pattern. Making sure he had at least a few seconds to look away, Yeltin turned to the tray of food and picked up a roll, breaking off a smaller chunk in his other hand.
“The records say they impress with offerings of food. They will be very hungry when they break out, make sure you have some ready… Now I’m not sure if they simply take it or if you have to coax them… Just don’t show any sign of fear.” He said more reciting what he had read as a journeyman to remind himself than to explain it to the Holder.

Galeden listened to the other man welll though he had never thought to fear whatever creature came out of the egg. His first egg began to crack while the other egg remained still. He wondered if the other egg was waiting or if he had somehow managed to ruin it. Not that he had not done everything that he was told to do by them. He was a beastcrafter in his heart and after all these were simply a different sort of animal.
He watched as his egg rocked very violently and rolled over. The split in the egg was now substantial as a bronze coloered head poked out of it. Galeden wasted no time and brought some meatrolls with him. He waved the meatroll in front of theflit so he would catch the scent. The bronze finished breaking free from the shell and ate though he walked on wobbly legs. Even as his hands were full with the first flit the second egg began to shake, not too noticeably but at least Galeden knew it wasn't dead.

The little green took a little more time to slowly widen the hole in her egg before finally falling thru. Yeltin couldn’t manage to keep his hands from shaking as he slowly offered a meatroll to the flit before him. It was like he was in a dream, to finally be seeing a miniature dragon – one of the mythical creatures he had been singing of for so long.
A stab of pain in his stomach that was a shadow of the flits own made the old harper jump as he quickly gave the flit a second piece. Did that mean he had managed to impress it? Had he done everything correctly? Just as he opened his mouth to bespeak the Holder as to how he was doing, he found himself at a loss for words as a picture seemed to form at the front of his mind and he realized he was looking at himself.
After a moment, he figured out how to look past that picture and back to his own gaze, one that was looking at the flit in astonishment. A smile formed on his face, as he feed the green another piece and looked over to where Galeden had his own hands full of a bronze hide, much larger than his green.
“Lord… If your other egg shows up just as large, I’d be surprised if you can hold them both.” He said with a smile and a rare trace of good humor as his own began to make its way across the harpers lap to cling to his shirt.

"Now now... don't be so greedy. You have to share with your clutch mate." Galeden bespoke the little bronze who flashed him a picture of him eating as he pleased. "I can see you are hungrier than I thought." The bronze climbed to the Lord holder's shoulder. Such a silly thought, him not being hungry. He had been in a shell for days without nourishment. Galeden heard a little giggle. Apparently he had not needed to wake her, she was already up watching him feed the Bronze. "Daddy, hes cute. The green is pretty." She remarked on Yeltin's smaller , but very lovely flit.
The other egg began violently shaking. The bronze even stopped his nagging for more food. There was something about this last egg. The flit inside had obviously wanted to make an entrance. Perhaps it was just as well. This way he could impress both easily. The egg shell shattered around a glittering large flit. The Gold looked about her as if she owned the whole of Pern. Galeden blinked in shock for a moment before bringing food close to the proud little Queen. She took food from him happily. Every so often looking about her in curiousity. "Theres a girl. Just you keep eating. " He said outloud to the gold. The bronze becoming jealous, slightly, nipped at Galedens ear. Galeden gave the bronze more food. Galeda handed her father more meat. "Does this mean there are dragons daddy?" "No...but we know there are firelizards/." The little girl held on to the stories she loved about the dragonriders. She had always believed dragons were real and her father and mother always told her they were not. They left Pern and were never coming back...
aleden had his hands so full with the teo flits he was handling that he didn't even have a chance to spare a momentfor Yeltin. "Next thing we will ahve to do is give them proper names."

Hearing little Galeda speak, Yeltin looked up to find the daughter of the Lord Holder awake and smiled as she asked her father of dragons. A slight sigh found its way to his lips. As a child himself he had wished for dragons to be alive and well, to come back and even let him impress one of the great beasts.
At the mention of names, Yeltin frowned looking down at the flit who was already fast asleep in the crook of his arm. He had a feline once… but he had never named the thing, simply said ‘here kitty kitty’ and it came. Yet looking at the little green that was the closest thing he’d ever come to his dream, he found himself wanting to give her a name, but had no idea of what would be appropriate.
“Galeda… I was wondering if I could ask your assistance.” Looking up at the Holder, Yeltin wondered if it was alright to ask for his daughters help in the matter, but if it was one thing the old harper had learned it was that children had names for everything. “I’m afraid I’ve never named anything before and I do not know what would be appropriate for this little firelizard, could you help me?”

The two turn old turned to the Harper at the sound of her name. She was smiling, blue green eyes, shining from exctitement. Moving over to Yeltin she cocked her head to the side watching the little green sleep. "What names do you like?" She asked not wanting to name someone elses pet in case it was rude. Her mother was constantly saying how rude she was. Her father wouldn't mind though... would he?
Galeden seemed to be quite busy with his two so the little girl thought up some names in quick succession and began to blurt them out with all the exhuberance of her age. "Wynn, Dawn, Beryl, Hazia, Estari, Tara...." The little girl continued through her increasing amount of yawns. It was long past her bed time. Galeden was listening to the wide eyed girl's names but meaqnwhile had come up with his own for his two.
"What do you both think of Kestrel for the Bronze?" He asked smiling at the two sleeping firelizards. The bronze was curled up around the gold and both had their heads on his forearm. No thought of how crazy life would be with two firelizards crossed his mind yet but he wanted to think it would be easier than running Keroon.

Yeltin could tell he had made the right choice as soon as he seen that shine in her eyes that he could only guess was due to the excitement all three were feeling. Hearing her begin to blurt out names and couldn’t help but laugh as he threw up a hand to slow her down.
“You speak so quickly Galeda. Learn to breath.” He said, always the harper. Softening his words with a smile, he lowered his hand again and pointed to the flit. “I think she looks like a Hazia. What do you think?”
Turning his attention to the Lord holder, he nodded at his name for the bronze. It was a good name and the old harper said so with an approving nod.

((hehehe thats one of my favorite names... You have good taste in names....)) Galeda began to take deep breaths as her nannies had told her too. Her cousin would be soooo jealous. She grinned as smug as a firelizard after stealing some food. "Hazia is a pretty name." Certain that the flits all needed her approval before their names would be official. Galeden waited patiently for her reply to his, knowing full well that the little girl wouldn't object to the name. "You can call him Kestrel if you want daddy, I'm calling him Kes." The girl golden curls bounced as she walked to the sleeping Gold and Bronze in her father's arms. The Gold lifted her head a moment, looking at the girl, an almost knowing gaze met the girl's own. "Daddy I'll name the Gold." Galeda said with the certainty that the Gold should be named by her above all others. Galeden thought that it was a good thing she knew how to take charge being his only child and one day a Lady Holder perhaps. "She will be called Oriel." Galeda said nearly ceremoniously. "That is a lovely name dear." "One of my nannies told me it has something to do with the color gold." the girl yawned sleepily. "Thats nice now I think you best be going to bed. You can visit the firelizards tomorrow after lessons."

((Looks like this one is pretty wrapped up…))
Yeltin couldn’t help but yawn at the Holder’s mention of bed to his daughter. He didn’t know whether it was his age or the time, or maybe even the flit that was affecting him the most, but the Harper was more than ready to begin his way back to his own chamber.
“Yes Galeden, bed is a good idea, although I almost fear the morning when these… these little firelizards will wake. It will be an interesting day well beyond what I believe my old age can handle.” He said with a soft chuckle.

The Lord Holder smiled at the Harper. It wasn't the man's age, for Galeden himself was very tired. "I'd say its a combination of the trials of today and the time." He answered as a nanny entered the room to take little Galeda to bed. The woman was middle aged with a merry disposition. "Come Galeda its time for bed." The woman spoke sweetly. Galeda kissed her father on the cheek and then moved toward the woman. "Goodnight Daddy, Master Yeltin, Oriel, Kestrel, Hazia and you in the shadows." Then Galeda left.
Galeden got up after she left. "How about I walk you to your room to be certain you make it. I wouldn't want you to fall asleep on the way." In fact the Holder wouldn't mind the company, since the Harper was a well trusted person. "These two no doubt will eb more a handful than I can imagine now."

The old harper chuckled at the man’s words of the firelizards being a handful. “Oh I think sleep would be the best way to prepare for the challenges ahead now. Yes, Lord Galeden, your accompaniment would be much appreciated.” He said as he too stood, following the Lord Holder’s lead.
Carefully, he placed a hand on the other side of the flit so that she was in a cradle of sorts between his two arms and his chest. Looking up, he nodded to the Lord to take the lead, as his rank was higher than the harpers own and only one would be able to fit thru the door at a time.
