K'mar strode into the Weyrhall, noting its emptiness at night compared to the daytime. It was always bustling with people, and you practically had to shout to keep a conversation going. Just the other day, he had to raise his voice so high this his voice even cracked. Luckily the people were so loud that it was inaudible to any other than the man he had been trying to talk to. And now, it was serene and peaceful. It was late at night, getting close to morning actually. And why had he been there? Lately, K'mar was finding it difficult to get any sleep. There was always this reoccuring nightmare that haunted him in his sleep. This time he decided to try some food and cup of klah.
The bronzerider enjoyed the night hearth the most at night, seeing as he seemed to be the only one down here at night. It was calm, quiet, and food was still served. He smiled to himself. [glow=darkgoldenrod,2,300]What are you doing up so late?[/glow] Just getting a bite to eat. He could feel a ripple of laughter ricochet in his head. What? The dragon paused for a moment. [glow=darkgoldenrod,2,300]If you only want a bite to eat then you wouldn't be sitting down. You need sleep, so go back to our weyr.[/glow] Later. I will, later. Talzynth grunted, but said nothing after that. K'mar had indeed sat down.
The large sofa was so open and welcome that he couldn't help but sit down for a moment. And once one sat in those cushions, it was over; you couldn't get back up. He glanced around, looking to see if anyone was there. It was clear. K'mar sighed. He wouldn't mind some company other than himself and Talzynth. His klah came to his lips as he let the steaming liquid through. He had to move it around in his mouth a bit until it cooled down before he swallowed. What does one talk about to themself? He laughed quietly. He was actually talking to himself. Now this was crazy talk. K'mar leaned back and extended his arm out over the top of the sofa and took another sip of klah. Very interesting....

"Don't squirm." A soft girl's voice whispered. She was trailed by two canines and holding a rather small brown firelizard. To top it off her head was bandaged and she had a guitar slung to her back. Amneris had left her platinum blonde hair down and it clashed intensely with her beach tanned skin and scrawny figure. Of course she was too much of a dreamer to even realize there might be someone else there.
The small young teen snuck into the kitchens quick as you please. When she came out she held a platter of meat and some juice, plus two bowls of water. Neris walked rightpast the sofa sitting in the one opposite it. She put her guitar on its side as Tipp and Note joined her on the sofa. Then she saw the other person and was immediately unsure how to react. She had a deer in the headlight look for sure.

K'mar closed his eyes for a moment to just rest them in hopes he might fall asleep. His hand holding the klah rested on his leg, and soon he was in the first stage of sleep, passing on to the second. A noise abruptly woke him from his nap, and he slowly opened his eyes. The Kitchen door opened and a girl started through. Ah, so there would be company tonight. He smiled at her, but was only halfway there when he realized what she was holding. There was so much food there he wondered how she was even carrying it all. But that wasn't all that startled him. A brown flit and two canines accompanied her. Strange, very strange. He pinched himself, then sighed. Not a dream.
Then, without a word, she sat down next to him and arranged herself and her pets on the sofa. It was that moment he noticed the guitar. An apprentice harper? But what was she doing here? Or maybe, was she a candidate? His crystal blue eyes appeared a deep saphire in the lack of light, but luckily it was still bright enough that they could see each other clearly. K'mar cleared his throat, and the girl froze with her eyes wide. Short of words? Well she certainly wasn't short of pets. He laughed to himself at the small joke, but moved on to socializing with someone other than himself. It was a relief from before, and now was the perfect time to ensure that he was not crazy.
"Good...evening, I guess you could say. Good night makes it sound like I'm telling you to go to bed." His warm smile spread across his face. "Are you a candidate? If so, I thought candidates were not supposed to leave their quarters at night." He raised his eyebrow in question, waiting for her answer. K'mar listened for the answer and then laughed. "Don't worry, I won't make you go back. Not with the parade you brought along. Are they all yours?" He watched each of them with the same curiousity as the next. His fingers brushed through his hair as he continued his...interogation, or so it seemed at the moment. He continued to ask her questions, so this would be a good time for introductions as any, he supposed. "K'mar, by the way. And you are...?"

For a moment she found herself caught off guard, even more so when she looked at him and his beautiful eyes. She would have been able to write songs about him, if she could find her tongue. Tonight was certainly not a good night for her, but she would be as cordial as she could considering her own, rather interesting position. He need only say a word and she would be sent to bed. She laughed at his slight joke, but then, she was always easily amused. Her beautiful voice while singing was equally beautiful when she spoke.
"Yes its certainly a good evening to find oneself with company. The two canines have been with me for turns. The pointy eared one is Half Note and the one with the ears flopped over is Tipp. This little fellow here, has quite the story behind him. I still don't know what to call him. All I know is he has kept me up all night with hunger pangs till I decided it wasn't worth waiting till morning."
Neris realized she was runnign on, which she did when nervous. The rider had meant tobe nice to her, but she found herself being the little girl again and had to stop and come back to reality. Sometimes she had the look a dragonrider gets when talking to his dragon. It was her dreaminess..."My name is Amneris and it is a pleasure to meet you K'mar. You are a dragon rider? " She asked eventhough she knew the answer. Amneris hoped it would keep the conversation on something he liked, rather than on her akward entrance.

The wingsecond nodded at each of the pets as she named them. Then they came to the flit. No name? Well, maybe he could help with that. He laughed at her excuse for being out here so late. His hand waved towards the food. "Well, then, you can go ahead and start feeding him. You don't need to wait until we've figured out each other's histories." K'mar was interested in how she met all of them, but he had a basic idea. That, and he also discovered where she had come from. If the guitar hadn't already been enough, her voice was. It was soft and musical, like she was singing as she spoke each word. It was nice to listen to, especially in comparison to the harsh tones at Wing Practice the other day.
"It's nice to meet you, Amneris." He nodded. "Yes, I am. Rider of Talzynth, as a matter of fact. He would be disappointed if I didn't mention him to you." The bronzerider dropped his arm from the top of the sofa and back to his knee. Simultaniously, his other hand came up as he sipped some more of his klah. Boy, it was hot tonight. The klah just wouldn't cool down. Oh, well. It was better than usual at least. Sometimes the klah is cold, and that is never good to drink. But at other times it is lukewarm, so you can drink it, but you cringe every time you take a sip. That was not how he planned on spending his evening. His eyes turned back to the girl as his fingers ran through coal black locks.
Now, to keep the conversation going. "I'm guessing from your guitar that you're a harper apprentice. Or were, if you do Impress. Did you like it there? Or would you prefer to become a dragonrider?" He waited patiently for her answer. Now how would she answer this one? Before this he didn't have much, so being a dragonrider was his only fate. He had no two roads to choose from like she does now. Dragonriding was his destiny that he could not change. It didn't matter though, he wanted to be a dragonrider, and he would never give up Talzynth. They were tighter than most, and it was rare that they argued. They were always supporting each other. He sighed. No, he would never have wanted to be anything other than a dragonrider.

She did start feeding the little brown who ate the meat greedily, as she fed him she placed two bowls on the ground. They had water in them only. Tipp and Note jumped off the couch simultaneously and began to drink their water. Immediately, amneris began to feel better. "Talzynth....thats a very nice name. Is it true that dragons hatch knowing their names?" Then to answer his question she thought a moment...growing a bit pale actually.
Of course the one question she dreaded answering. Stalling a moment she sipped her juice. Instead of rushing into her answer she spoke slowly, "I was an apprentice at the harper hall, they say I have natural talent. Mainly with my voice...I have a great range" She smiled a moment, with a far away look in her eyes she continued. "I loved my life at the harper crafthall. It was perfect. I would go to the beach most days and just sing adn play guitar. Where the water adn the sky seemed to touch and golden light seemed to sparkled liek the most expensive gems off the waves. However it was on a day very much like that one that I was searched by a blue rider. I convinced him to let me meet him at the Weyr, and my master made me go through with it. I don't know what I'm doing here. No dragon will impress to me, I have given my heart and soul to my music...it would never be fair." Amneris though that sounded a bit deep for her, the Weyr was making her growup little by little.

K'mar smiled and nodded at the memory. On that fateful day, Talzynth had broken free and denied all the boys that moved towards him. The first thing he had said was something like 'K'mar, why won't you come to Talzynth?' Yes, they did know their names. It was random, like when you drew a number out of a hat, there wasn't any way you could choose what they would be called. What fun would that be anyway? What if it had been a name that they grew out of, but they would be stuck with it for the rest of their life? He did not want to be the cause of all the humiliation and teasing Talzynth might have received. No, it was better this way. No one would get hurt, and the dragons obviously approved.
"Yes. They usually start bespeeching Theirs as soon as they hatch and give their names as well. But I think they name themselves well. Talzynth fits the bronze in a way that I don't think any other name would do him justice." He grinned at the large dragon who was already back to sleep. Strange how easy it was for dragons to sleep. They never seemed to get nightmares, or never got disturbed by His or Hers' nightmares. K'mar brushed the thought away. There were a lot of things that the people of Pern didn't know enough of, and not enough time for one person to try to answer them all. Her voice again brought him back to the present as she offered him her situation.
Ah, so she was a harper at heart. Did she grow up on harpering? Maybe her parents were harpers? Either way, there was no way to be sure what she is meant to do. The dragons would decide that come Hatching time, but if she was meant to be a harper then none would Impress her. He frowned as she belittled herself. Why would she do that? She knew she has great potential as a harper, but that does not mean she has any less of a chance to become a dragonrider. "Don't dismiss your chances of becoming a dragonrider that easily. It is all up to the dragons whether you are meant to bond to one of them or not. If they don't choose to Impress with you, then maybe you are right. I can tell already with your voice you must be a magnificent singer. Still, don't cut out the option of a dragonrider so quickly. You never know, you could become our next dragonsinger."
That would surely be an interesting task, and maybe he would see her more often. The wingsecond raised the mug of klah to his lips and let the now-warm liquid pass down his throat. He finished it off in one large swig before leaning forwards to place it on the table. K'mar relaxed back into the cushions of the sofa and watched her pets. Could he ever handle so many at once? And deal with Talzynth at the same time? 'No, he's too much work as it is. Although, I wouldn't mind a flit to keep me company in the smaller areas of the Weyr that Talzynth could not fit in. He is large enough already, so I would enjoy a flit. Green, I think. She would surely make things interesting.' He thought to himself, then looked back up at her to hear her opinions on what he had spoken.

Amneris listened intently as he talked of dragons. They seemed to be so intelligent. More so than the baby firelizard in her arms. "I do wish this little fellow would name himself and save me the trouble of finding something appropriate." Well he seemed to think she was qualified to become a dragon rider. Why did she need so much convincing?
"There are Weyrsingers? I knew there were harpers in the Weyr, but was unaware of their titles." The girls face had lit up measurabley. "Did you have any doubts before impressing to Talzynth" The blonde gave another scrap of meet to the little brown flit.

K'mar laughed. "I don't think that will happen, although I would be more than happy to assist you in the naming of him." He stared at him for a long while, but he couldn't quite find any uniqueness that stood out right away. It could just as easily been the lack of light as well, so it wasn't the flit's fault. "Does he have any special mark or atribute that makes him different from the rest?" She moved on to weyrsingers and he nodded slowly. "Yes, there are a few of those per weyr. They play with the harpers during Gathers and the like. Very entertaining, but busy, dragonriders." He knew a few of them personally, and they were all very nice people. They were just hard to get in touch with since they were constantly in the middle of something when he wanted to talk to them.
He still remembered how he first Impressed and exactly how it went. Yes, yes he was very doubtful of bonding with a dragon. But in the end Talzynth had chosen him. He was the luckiest man in the world, its seemed. "Yes, I was doubtful. I stood behind everyone else as he hatched. But through all of the other male candidates, he spoke to me and asked if I would help him up when he had fallen over from his shell." He smiled, remembering just how it all had happened: "
His egg was around the same size as all of the others, giving no indication of his size or color. The egg itself was actually beige in hue that started at the top, almost as if it was the cap that held the dragon inside. As the color progressed downwards, it slowly darkened to a light brown, to brown, and followed at last by a dark brown at its base. The colors were so close to each other when they faded and mixed, that you could not tell where the light brown ended and the brown began. Small white stretch lines, more like veins, started in one spot and ended only three inches down before another started again perpendicular to the last, and then diagonal, and so on until the lines were filling all the open spaces while staying within a three inch radius of the other veins.
At first the veins looked like cracks, and the spectators believed that the egg was the one to hatch first. But if you ran your hand over the egg you would find it just as smooth and soft as the rest. The audience watched it while holding their breaths, as if breathing would somehow stop the Hatching from occurring, even though many of them had already seen Hatchings millions of times before. The egg did not stir though, for it would not be one of the first to hatch. Many eggs drew the attention of the crowd when they began to rock, and the gradient brown egg with white veins stood still until it was his turn for the spotlight. Then, near the end, the egg began to wobble to and fro, shaking harder and harder as real cracks split the egg apart a little at a time. But once the first breakthrough of his talon came, the rest all rolled out at once, literally. The momentum of the rocking of the egg continued even as Talzynth stopped, and he was taken with the egg as it tumbled over.
Now free, no one moved to aide him while their eyes were all fixed on such a large bronze. It was no wonder the egg had fallen over. A few of the candidates moved towards him to try and help the bronze up, but he pushed them all aside. They weren’t His, and he was not going to get up until his bonded arrived. That was when K’mar heard a low, pleading voice as for help. The candidate stared at the bronze, and his feet started to move automatically, as if he had front row seats but wasn’t actually a part of the show. But when he reached Talzynth and helped the bronze up, it all clicked into place. It was like a part of him he never knew had been missing suddenly rushed into him, and a smile grew on his lips. That smile never left his face the entire day." (K'mar remembering his past, not aloud)
"So who is your family back home? Do you have many siblings?"

"Nothing that I know of, but I wouldn't know what normal was, so he could be very unique. He does like to stay up all night and sleep all day. I thought Flits were not nocturnal, but boy he seems to like the quiet nights rather than the loud and busydays. Maybe he knows thats when he can get the most attention. " She smiled as she saw the far away look in his eyes. She wouldn't mind having memories like that the dragonrider seemed to have. "Were you afraid or just very certain that the dragon wouldn't want you? I think I would feel like a dragon wouldn't want me and in a way I wouldn't want a dragon, but I suppose there is always that little voice that says, yes dragonrider you should be..."
Again she fed the little flit, knowin he was starving. He slept all day... and now he was famished. His blue eyes swirled faster when she fed him a piece of meat. The look on his face was quite smug...even for a flit. Tipp and Note fell asleep at Amneris's feet.
"My father runs a cothold near the Sodalis Hold, but far enough not to be able to visit all the time. My mother helps with everything. They are very much a team. My eldest sister, Kersa is 23 she is going to be married soon and has two children. Thats right I'm an aunt already." she smiled a little thinking about the little rascals. My eldest brother is 21 and was newly appointed Journeyman of Smithcraft. My second eldest sister is Marrael, she is 20 and farms at the cothold. Then there is Serillis, she is 19 and a Journeywoman Weaver. I think she lives at a Hold, but I'm not sure which. My brother, Delvion is next and he is an apprentice beastcrafter and you can never find him. HE is always off on the plains raising animals. Animals are his life, and he has an almost magical ability with them. He is one of my closest siblings." Pausing a moment she realized she was bantering on a bit.
"My sister Kendara is 16 and we hate eachother. She has had a dislike for me since my birth so we don't talk. My parents tell me she has run off again. I'm next and then there is my youngest sibling, Tavier. He is only 8 and causes as much trouble as possible. I miss him though, he was always so much fun to have around, the real humorous one out of the lot of us." Looking at the bronze rider she made to ask the same question but decided to apologize first. "Sorry you probably did not need too hear all of that. I do have a large family. How about you?"

The bronzerider nodded in thought. So, he was nocturnal? Well, that was an idea. "What about something like Nocturnal? Call him Noc for short. Sorry, I don't have very good ideas. My own flit is Wish. I don't really know where it came from though." He was surprised the little green wasn't with him actually. She was always on his shoulder and constantly gives him attention. Wish was definitely special. K'mar grinned. Amneris continued, asking about the Impression. "I didn't think the dragons would accept me. I just did not consider myself dragonrider-material. And then, I Impressed. Just like that. I never felt more at home after that."
He laughed again, this time at how similar they were. "Don't worry. I have a large family too. But where to start?" His warm smile spread on his lips as his crystal blue eyes twinkled. "Ah, yes, my parents. My mother had six kids with my father, but when she had a seventh and he knew it wasn't from him, my father left us. Soon after Amara, the youngest, was born, my mother died from a sickness that caught her during labor. I raised Amara with M'kel, my brother. I'm the oldest, and M'kel follows me. Most say we are twins, and there are very few differences, even in personality. I'm just a bit more laid back than he is, but that's about it as far as differences are."
He paused, then continued. "Next came Daemon, who I'm sure will become a Master Harper with his talent. He's the joker, the one who is always making us laugh. Most people like him of the family. Krynn is the troublemaker, but he is also the one that helps take care of the three girls. Tessa is the oldest girl who is into healing. She's quiet, but you can see that she got her looks from mother, who was supposedly very pretty. I inherited her eyes, you see." He smiled again, and his eyes lit up as if on cue. "Farrah is the oddball who isn't afraid to speak her mind. She's an apprentice beasthandler, taking after our parents. She is obsessed with being just like mother for some reason."
"Amara is last, but certainly not the least. I guess you could say I'm closest to her since I raised her myself. She's shy and too quiet for her own good, though. She blames our mother's death on herself. Amara looks up to me and Tessa, though, so she became an apprentice healer. We know after awhile she'll open up, but she's still the baby of the family." He waited for a moment, letting her sink it all in. "You see? I have a large family too. I guess this is the generation of many children." K'mar grinned. Indeed, it must be, for there were so many people nowadays with large families. He couldn't meet a single person anymore that was either a single child or had only one other sibling. Strange how the world was these days...

Amneris wondered for a moment..."Nocturnal is dark for him I think...he is still only a few days old. Maybe I'll wait till his true personality shines through. I never really expected to impress a flit...it was entirely on accident."
Tipp and Note had been enough for the harper and now the flit. No doubt a dragon plus chores, these three, lessons and then apprenticing as a harper would be wild, she might as well go between now and get it over with. Her sanity would no doubt be lost, though she had never really been entirely sane. Amneris found she had lost herself in his eyes for a moment and then pulled herself out. She did not need to have a crush on a dragonrider...it would do her no good. Oh but she could definately see herself falling for him easily.
"We are supposed to have large families. Its practically a law. At least while I'm here I won't be expected to have children...well at least not for a while. I'm actually still deciding if I want the responsiblity. You have lived raising children already so you know what to expect." Her dexterious harper fingers rached down for the two bowls placing them back on the tray. She did it so quiet and flawlessly that neither Tipp nor Half note noticed. Only the little brown seemed to care that she had momentarily stopped feeding him.

K'mar nodded. Just as Amneris reached down to pick up the bowls, a small chirp sounded in his ear. His sapphire eyes locked on the unnamed brown fire lizard, but he definitely did not make such a sound. He gave a quick look around, and practically jumped when he saw Wish perched on his shoulder. K'mar laughed quietly, so as not to disturb the two sleeping on the floor. The green rubbed her head against his cheek and cuddled as close as possible to him, with her tail wrapped around his neck for balance.
She was a small green, although still close to average-sized. She was a radiant and vibrant green, glowing like fresh grass or leaves in the springtime. Her eyes swirled a friendly blue-green, proving how happy she was whenever she was near K'mar. It was rare that she left his side, but she must have woken up and realized that the bronzerider was not in his weyr and came to find him. She chirped her disappointment in him for not telling her where he was going, or even that he was going soemwhere.
Then the harsh chirped smoothed out into a soft croon. She wasn't angry long, luckily for K'mar, and adored him more than anything. Her eyes were so busy on K'mar, that she didn't realize there was company besides herself. Amneris and the brown flit were seen next, while Tipp and Half Note were still out of her sight. She chirped her greeting to the candidate and focused her attention on the brown flit. Wish crooned softly in a flirtatious greeting, before going back to K'mar. She was finally starting to become a bit flirtatious, although she was still glued to K'mar more than she was flirting with the male flits of the Weyr. K'mar trusted it would come soon, knowing she wouldn't stay innocent forever. He smiled at the thought. "Amneris, this is Wish, my flit. She's been with me for quite awhile, even when I Impressed Talzynth."

Amneris watched the little green after she had appeared on the rider's shoulder. "Wish is it? Thats a pretty name." Neris's own flit looked up at the green quirking his head and blinking. He wasn't sure what to do. He was still just a baby anyway. Amneris watched the rappore between the two, she knew that they must have been together for a long time. It was similair to her relationship with Tipp, who was her eldest pet. "You must be very close."

K'mar laughed and nodded. "Yes, she thinks so too." The green was still rubbing her small head against his cheek while her tail was wrapped delicately around his neck. He nodded and began to stroke the small green. "Yes. I found her with my youngest sibling, Amara. We've been together for a very long time. Probably for half of my life right now." Wish chirped her agreement and continued her soft croons towards him. K'mar turned his attention back to Amneris.
"Hey, you were an apprentice at Harper Hall, correct? Was singing your favorite or playing instruments." The little green perked up when K'mar gave her the image of a person singing. "You see, Wish loves people who sing. Maybe you wouldn't mind giving us a small performance." He smiled, blue eyes flashing. "If you don't want to you can decline. I just heard that most flits like music, and it's an idea for maybe helping you to name yours. He may just like a certain type of instrument or ballad you could name him after." He shrugged. It was an idea that she just might be able to use. He never was that good at naming fire lizards, or anything for that matter, anyway.
