Tomar cursed silently as he wiped the sleep out of his eyes, why on Pern did they have to give him a chore that made him get up this damn early? Grant it the spring only had to be scrubbed once every few weeks because of the constantly swirling water, but even that was not enough to stop all kinds of mold from growing on the springs bottom or sides. And so Tomar had been assigned this most unpleasant task. He knew with out a doubt that he had been given this job for all of the times he had stolen pastries from the cook, and he sighed when he realized that such punishments would never be enough to stop him from doing it again.
With his light quiet steps Tomar managed to leave the barracks without waking anyone, not even Temor, who had been assigned the stable job far away from Tomar, stirred when he passed. Once outside he quickened his pace and headed to the spring, hoping to get this over with as soon as possible, and once there he sighed again before opening only two glow baskets. The dim light of the glows sent reflections of themselves dancing around the stone walls after hitting the constantly moving water of the spring.
Sighing again, Tomar took off the shirt and pants he had just put on only a moment before. Standing in only his under shorts, the young lad lowed himself into the water still cold from the early morning chill. Shivering and cursing again Tomar wasted no time in reaching for the metal scrubber and the bag, before diving into the water.
Opening his eyes Tomar scrubbed the bottom of the pool, removing chucks of the mildew that had been growing there at a time and putting them away in the bag before they could swirl out of his reach. When he began to run out of air he would resurface before diving again, dedicated to getting the job down as soon as possible.
---
Rylene made her way to the the spring, she was finally going to weed around the spring. Sge had been asigned this chore after her mother had found out how muchy she hated getting her hands dirty with dirt.
Coming to the Spring she began weeding making a sall pile so she could cary the weeds away to be burned or something else. Going along Rylene thought she heard gasping noises but didn't really notice until she was right upo close to the edge of the Spring. Looking into to it She jumped back in shock as she saw a head appear out oof the water and then disappear back under.
Rylene blinked, and looked down into the water. She saw a figure swimming but that was as much as she could make out. Cupping her hands around her mouth she yelled, "hay are you okay down there???!" Rylene waited to see if the person would come up....
---
((I’m assuming that since both our characters where raised in the Weyr that they would at least know of each other, especially with Tomar being such a trouble maker and [according to your bio] Rylene being made fun of.))
Tomar had just dived to finish up scraping the bottom of the spring before working on the sides when a muffled sound reached him. The Candidate had no idea what that sound was supposed to be but as he turned under water he could seen the wavering figure of a person staring down at him. Tomar sighed a little, sending a small stream of bubbles out of his nose to swirl quickly to the surface. It was probably someone wanting to take a bath, and he would have to be the barer of bad news and tell them that was not possible.
Positioning his bare feet below him, Tomar kicked hard off the now clean stone bottom and was sent rushing for the surface. But it seemed he had kicked a little to hard as his head broke the surface of the water with a splash as the water sloshed up onto the springs sides. Spluttering Tomar wiped the water out of his miss matched eyes before he could focus on the person he had accidentally splashed. “Sorry about that, what where you saying?” his attention was not on the person yet as he pulled the bundle of mold out of the water to squelch on the ground at his side. There was no doubting it the sack was defiantly much heavier out of the water.
That task done he finally looked at the girl, her round face and freckled nose gave her away immediately, “Rylene, your not here to take an early morning bath are you? Cuze I’m still trying to clean this thing up, it will be a wile before all of the moss is scraped off.”

As the water overflowed Rylene was soaked form the knees down, only pr3venting worse soaking by jumpinmg back a good 3 feet. She glared as the person got out of the water, not only was she dirty but know she was soaking. Hraring him Rylene scowled, she wasn't in the best of moods anymore, drawing herself up she tried to look dignified but her present condtions only made her look comical.
"I was weeding Tomar....and I usually donm't bathe in the Spring anyways, just for your infromation....I didn't realize you had gotten the chore, especially today." She would have avoided the spot if she had known, Rylene wasn't very social with the Weyrbrats and she tried her best to avoid any conatct with them in case they felt like teasing her especially the troublemakers. Looking at the heavy sack Rylene winced, she wasn't strong and she bet the sack ws a whole lot heavier on land than in water. After a moment were she fought with her self she made up her mind. With a gusty sigh and drooping shouders she offered her help, besides the water was probably cool. " Do you need any help, I'm almost down and that sack looks pretty heavy..." She left off the end wondering if he would accept her help.

Tomar smiled up at the girl trying not to laugh at the look on her face as she tried in vane to look dignified with her hands covered in mud and her knees soaking wet. He did manage to control himself as she dropped the effort and offered her help. The Weyr brat did not answer her right away but instead placed both hands on the side of the spring and pulled himself up. Out of the water, his blond hair dripping and his mismatched eyes sparkling, Tomar decided to face the girl on even footing rather then looking up at her from the pool.
“Well if you want to I suppose you could help. That is if you don’t mind going swimming?” the boy was completely oblivious to her dislike of the Weyr brats or at least he acted that way, Tomar had found out very early that fainting ignorance went a long way. Talkative as always Tomar didn’t give the girl much time to answer his question rushing on. “I mean you would have to take off most of those close as they will only hold you down and that is rather dangerous, besides you don’t want to do anymore chores do you? I mean I was assigned this particular one as a bit of a punishment well not really as I’m technically a candidate now but still the cook didn’t really appreciate that particular screw being loose.” A wicked grin split across his face as at the remembered image of the tubby man fighting his way out of a pile of almost all of the Weyr’s pots and pans. “but anyway… you don’t need help with your chores do you?” Tomar tilted his head inquiringly his longish hair falling in delicate wet locks to frame his face and strangely colored eyes.

"These are my swimming and work clothes, I can take my apron off and I think I'll be fine. I'm a pretty strong swimmer...and I love swimmming even if I have to work when I do swim." Rylene was sort of surprised that he had asked about yhe own chores. "Oh..I'm nearly done with my chore, after I get rid of my pile of weeds I can help you, and besides I'll gte clean while i'm swimming." She grinned looking down at her dirty knees and hands not to mention the fact tat she waspretty sweaty too. Walking over to the piles of weeds, Rylene gathed them all inot one bundle and then turned back to Tomar. "I'll be right back" And she hurried off.
It onl;y took her about 10 minutes to dispoe of the weeds and she came rushing back, as she really wamnyted to gte into the nice cool water. :"I'm ready" She said and promtly took off her apron and jumped/fell into the water gasping at how cold it was.

Tomar just shrugged as Rylene brushed away his help and ran off to finish her chores before joining him. He had to admit that the help would make the core go a lot faster but at the same time did he want it to go faster? The Weyrbrat contemplated this silently as he jumped back into the pool, causing yet more water to spill over the edge. His best friend Temor would be awake by now but he had duties with his leather craft until midday wile Tomar did not have to see his wood crafting master until about three.
Tomar leaned on the edge of the pool and watched the girl come running back, it was amazing that he had never really talked to her that much before, she seemed like a nice enough person if a bit quiet, but then again Temor was quiet…
Tomars odd eyes widened as Rylene seemed to half jump half fall into the pool beside him. He had been staring off in the distance and didn’t even notice her getting that close. “Welcome back Rylene,” he coughed out as he wiped his again dripping hair out of his face, “have you ever had this chore before? It’s not that hard especially if, like you said you’re a strong swimmer. I think its best to start at the bottom and work your way up but since you’re here we can probably split it either in half this way, “ he motioned with his hands to indicate a vertical line dividing the pool into right and left sides, “or this way,” again he motioned only this time dividing the pool into top and bottom, “which every you puffer will work fine for me.”
He flashed is naturally charming, none too innocent smile her way. It was amazing really, that in times like these people could see the handsome heart throb man he would become in only a few more years and one growth spurt away. But just as quickly as it came that little flash of the future was gone and once again the fourteen turn old that resembled a ten turn old was back.

Rylene booded up and down in the water. Feeling much better now that she ws in the nice cool refreching water. "I haven't done this chore before, it doesn't seem to complicated at all. I guess I'll work on the left side seeing as I'm closer to it. Um, do you have another satchel or are we just going to share. Sharings fine wiht me." Rylene smiled. She'd been sharing most of her life, so she didn't care about sharing a satchel at all.
"So lets get started, I want to get done as fast as possible." Rylene nodded as she spoke. When she worked she usually got her job/chore done fast, just so she was overwith it and had time to kill by hersself.

Tomar listened to her talk as he emptied the bag on the ground and reached though the bottom for another scraper. “Well your right it’s not that hard at all. All you have to do is scrape the mold of the walls and though it in the sack before it floats away.” With that Tomar stopped treding water and allowed the natural flow of he spring carry him towards her. When he got close enough he back peddled to stop from running into her and then held the scraper out for her. “so the left side will be your and I’ll do the right, the bag can stay hear on the edge, it will take a little longer to get each handful into he sack but it’s the easiest way to share I expect.” With one more smile Tomar dived, swimming under her before moving to the bottom of his side and starting scraping again.
((if you want you can fast-forward though some of the time it takes to do the chore, but only if you want to…))

((It's fine with me )) Rylene had all of her section finished. She felt nice and refreshed from her time while swimming. Her skin was starting to get wrinkley, so she swam to the edge and hauled her self up. Rylene sat with her legs it the water waiting for Tomar to finish his side, it wasn't that he ws slow it was just that Rylene worked fast. She had some pretty tired muscles now and maybe a pulled one, she wouldn't know until she went swimming again probably. Cupping her hands around her mouth, Rylene bent down so her lips were inches above the water. Then she shouted. "You done Tomar? I finished my side...do you need help with finishing yours??? Come up if you can hear me." Sitting up she waited for Tomar to surface, and if he didn't then she'd wait until he came up for air.

Temor had just finished with his last stubborn patch when he herd some muffled sounds that might have been words. Twisting around under water the boy looked up to see only Rylene’s feet still in the water; he then glanced over to her side and was surprised to see her done already. The worked rather fast too wanting to get done as soon as possible but wow…
Looking back up Temor kicked of the bottom of the pool to come flying up to the surface. Taking aim he tossed his last handful right in the open and bulging bag before swimming over to the edge where the girl waited, “you done already? Me too.” He looked around a bit but then focused his strange eyes on her again. “What time do you suppose it is anyway?”

Watched Tomar come to the surface and put a handful of algae into the bursting bag. 'It must weigh a lot' she thought and secretly hoped that Tomar was strong, she had muscles but her strength was in her legs, not really her arms. "Monara cocked her lead up at the sky when she heard his question.
"I don't know...maybe a little past midday??? I can't tell time that well, just from the sky that is." She looked back at Tomar and then got out of the Spring som Tomarcould get out. " So did yopu say you had chores latter on??? Sorry I forget conversations fast." She blushed imbarresed at her own short term memorie problem. If she had really wamted to know Rylene could have remember, but at the moment she was in a realxing kind of daze and didn't want to put the effort into remembering.

“Well if that’s true then I have about three candle marks before I have to see the wood crafter. “ Tomar quickly got out of the pool after the girl, and promptly began to shake his head much like a canine to rid it of most of the dripping water. Once done with that he moved for his towel and nearly had it to his face before he looked at it and then looking at Rylene tossed it her way. “that means I can lay in the sun before training for the day starts, What about you? Did you have anything else you had to do to day?”

Rylene sputtered as water from Tomar hair came flying onto her face. She grimced and barely caught the towel he threw at her in time. She glared at him for a second befroe she began srubbling the water off her face and arms. Then she walked over and gave the towel back toTomar. The rest of her clothes and body would dry out eventually.
"Well...hm.. I don't think I have any other chores to do, and I don't have to work in the Kitchens today. Sooo I guess I'm free, unless someone catches me and forces to work. But I doubt that will happen." She smiled at Tomar and put her sandels on were she had taken them off, while she had been weeding. "I guess I'm free....would you like to do something together. I...I mean you know..." Rylene was studying her feet as she felt the blush creap onto her face. Just look at that Rylene asking someone to go somewere and hang-out with her.

Tomar took the towel and shrugging began to dry off his face and hair. His voice slightly muffled by the cloth and the fact that he was looking at his feet, Tomar continued to talk to the girl. He was starting to like her… well he liked the fact that she didn’t made being around him for any length of time and that she had helped him out of what could have ended up being an all day chore. “well no one can really force you to work on your day off if you don’t let them. You just have to put your foot down.” He stomped his own foot for emphasis, “and tell them ‘this is my only day off in a long time and I’m going to enjoy it, perhaps I will get back to working for you tomorrow.’”
Done with his hair Tomar flung his head up his strange eyes sparkling mischievously. “I would love to do something with you Rylene, for the two or so candle marks I have until class that is… what did you have in mind?”

Rylene had to leen forward to hear Tomar, the towel muffled his voice a lot. She was able to get the jist of waht he was saying though. Rylene just shook her head sadly, she didn't really have the guts to tell someone no, and that she wouoldn't work. It was something she just couldn't really do, but there's always a first time ...right?
Rylene watched as Tomar finished with the towel, which was now a soaken rag, and the speak to her. "Oh," Rylene said blushing and smiling just a bit. "I dunno...maybe the Weyrhall, or we could go to the beach...and look around for i don't know...seashells?" She wasn't good at sugesting places to go or waht to do, especailly with boys. "Hey why don't you decide. I really don't care what we do." She smiled hoping that Tomar didn't want to do something bad or dangerous.

As Rylene talked Temor’s face split into a wickedly impish grin, of course the first think that came to his mind was both bad and dangerous though he had no idea that the girl was thinking of doing anything BUT that. “oow we could….”Ideas raced through his head but where frozen solid as he looked at the girl in front of him, “never mind you would never do it, Um….” Bringing his hand up to wipe his hair out of his face Temor stood in an obviously thinking position as he thought about what they could possibly do for three hours that didn’t involve getting them in trouble or nearly killed.
“well I’ve had enough swimming for one day but I like the sand if you want to go look for sea shells.” He looked up at her again tilting his head slightly to the side giving him the look of a curious puppy, “could always use some fresh drift wood for carving too.”
