Shereae began a mad dash for the Weyrhall after she Impressed her gold firelizard. "I have to tell someone before I implode with excitement!" she thought aloud in her usual habit. Bursting into the Weyrhall, she looked around for someone she knew--her excitement had limits and that included bursting in strangers' face with hr news. But who to tell? Who to tell...
Glancing to the left, she saw the Candidatemaster engaged in conversation with some of his fellow wingriders. To the center, the hearth and the usual drudges for the late-afternoon meal. And to the right...there was R'lan! Granted, he was there with a wineskin, a half-full glass, a half plate of food, and he was stripping off riding gear while winking at a passing drudge, but he was still there. And she knew him. And he'd celebrate with her. And really, that was all she wanted. Well...
She lightly jogged over to him, wanting to give him time to wave her off if he was busy. He didn't. "Hey, R'lan! Guess what?!" She approached the man quickly, trying to hold her purse tightly to her thigh without waking the firelizard. "I went to the beaches today..."

R'lan, nursing sore ribs, gently shed his riding jacket and gauntlets only after having filled his empty belly and quenched his dry throat. He looked up, a grim expression quickly hidden as he recognized the redhead running his way. The brown rider arched his eyebrow as he tried to make sense of the young woman's chatter. "Really?" He tried not to snort with laughter... many people went to the beaches, but he wouldn't hurt her feelings.
She is excited...
I can see that Nylath.
"Lady Shereae, why don't you set down and tell me about it over a glass of wine?" The brown rider snapped his fingers, and a drudge was soon heading toward the helios table.

She nodded, almost out of breath from running and her excitement. "You might hold back laughs now, but you'll see." She sat, and accepted the proffered wine glass. "Thank you," she said, smiling at him genuinely. He seemed like such a nice man. The drudge hurried off to continue previous duties.
Shereae looked up at him. He looked so tired. "After I tell you my story, I'm giving you a back massage," she told him defiantly. Then she gingerly lifted her side-purse on top of the table. "Now, I already told you I went to the beaches today," she said, opening the flap. A mewling came from inside. "I went a little farther than most do, because I had a good afternoon off." It was true--she had made sure to get all her chores done early in the morning so she could be out all day if need be. "And I came upon a clutch!" Here, she lifted her tiny gold out of the purse, and put her in the crook of her elbow. It's little eyes began to whirl hungrily, and she twittered, scolding her friend for not having food always on hand. Shereae waved for a drudge to come over, and asked him for strips of meat. Then she turned back to R'lan. "The momma lizard tore me up pretty good," she pulled a piece of hair back to reveal scratches, "but it was very worth it. Oh!" she exclaimed. "I haven't named her. Can I name her after your brown?"

"Alright, so make me stop laughing Redhair." He picked up the wine skin and pulled the cork, sucking in breath as he moved wrong. The brown rider began to fill her glass.
"Promise?" R'lan was taken off guard by her offer, but he wasn't one to turn down a gift. After her glass was full, he returned the cork to the wineskin and set it down. The Helios rider went to take another drink of his wine when he heard the mewlings coming from the young woman's bag. "She's beautiful Shereae." A smile danced through the brownrider's clear blue eyes.
Hopefully she makes her feel better about not impressing. R'lan had watched the young woman walk off of the Sands twice without a lifemate... she had stood more times than that.
I think she already has.
"You want to name her after Nylath?" R'lan almost laughed again. "I thought you were going to keep me from laughing?"
He stopped though when he saw the scratches along her face and scalp. R’lan leaned forward and pulled back her hair farther and frowning, "Worth it huh? Have you seen the healer yet?" Rai, his small green, woke and flew down from the ceiling beams. Seeing the little gold, she landed on Shereae's shoulder, peering down at the small hatchling.

"Or course I promise. You deserve it." She smiled fondly down at the gold. "And thank you. I think so too. I love this color, and I feel like I've become worthy of some sort of dragonkind." The humor in Shereae's voice hid the semi-disappointment she held at not Impressing a dragon. But this little gold firelizard...she was just as sweet. And Shereae had loved her from the moment she'd seen her.
"You want to name her after Nylath?" R'lan sounded like he thought she was joking or that it was funny. Shereae frowned at him.
"You may laugh, but I wonder what Nylath thinks of it." She smiled at the drudge, who'd brought the meat. Thanking him, she looked down at the gold wonder in her arm. "What do you think, little miss? Nyl? Nyla?" The firelizard chirped at her, and Shereae got that she was happy. With food, that is. "I think Nyl will work just fine, I do." She looked back at R'lan. "No, I haven't been to see the healer. I wanted to find you first," she said, embellishing her story just a little. His little green flew down to her shoulder, and she reached up to scratch her eyeridges. "You're very lovely, you are!" she said, smiling. The gold firelizard chirped irritably, and Shereae soon found both hands occupied by petting them. She smiled at R'lan. "Demanding, aren't they."

The brown rider didn't touch the subject, but a softness did cloud his eyes, she did deserve to impress and it had to hurt each time she was rejected. He put his hand on her arm and squeezed.
I like it. Nylath preened to himself, enjoying the waning evening sun.
You would... it isn't proper for a gold though, even a tiny gold.
What's wrong with it? I like my name...
Nothing is wrong with your name, it is a good name for you. But not a gold.
Hmph... I still like it.
R'lan furrowed his brows and leaned back in his chair with his arms crossed, "As soon as you eat something you're going to the healer. I am honored you came to me first but..." He frowned again at Rai. "She is not demanding... she is a pest. You do realize that once you feed them... they don't leave." Leaning forward he took the green off of Shereae's arm, "You know better than to beg food. That belongs to..." He paused a moment, not really wanting to acknowledge the name, " Nyl." His last words were somewhat mumbled.
I like it...

R'lan squeezed her arm, and she smiled and shivered. He had such nice hands, he really did. "What if I don't want to go to the healer?" she asked, grinning playfully. "Of course they don't go away, they want to be fed more!" She laughed. "You feed 'em once, they expect it all the time."
R'lan retrieved his green. Shereae frowned at his tone with the name she had given her firelizard. "Why don't you like it, R'lan?" she asked, cocking her head to the left.

“I’ll carry you there kicking and screaming.” The brown rider turned on his most charming smile, “I don’t want to see that pretty face of yours scarred for lack of tending.”
He grinned again, “Much like a woman.”
“Aren’t you love?” R’lan placed the little green on his shoulder and she gave a happy chirp, rubbing his cheek with hers.
“It isn’t a proper name for a gold, that’s all Shereae. Nylath is a brown…”

Her jaw dropped at his joke about women and food. "Now you look here. I'll get you next time you refer to the stomach's of the fairer sex as though they are as empty as a firelizards." She smiled, she'd never "get him." Not unless he wanted to be gotten, that is. And she didn't even know if he liked her. Maybe he did...they had been talking a lot lately. And he had come to the latest Hatching...but whether it was to see her or whether it was to get drunk with Sodalis riders, she decided not to ask.
"It's a perfect name for a gold. I bet you think a good one would by Ryla, then?" she teased, smiling at him. "Are you okay? You seem a little tense."

"It takes alot to get back at me Redhair, and I wasn't talking about your stomach
R'lan cut his eyes at her, "No it wouldn't."
I like it too. The brown's mind voice sounded sleepy, and held a trace of a smile.
"That isn't a bit funny." The brown rider scowled again. "Just tired Redhair and a bit sore. Riding strap broke and I fell foreward on Nylath."

She smiled at his nickname for her. No doubt he'd used it on other red-headed women as well. "Oh, my poor R'lan," she said, dismissing thought of healers and firelizard naming. Standing, she went to his back. "Tell me if this hurts, okay?" she directed as she placed her hands gently on his shoulders. She began to knead softly, but rubbing harder and harder as she continued. "Tell me if I get too rough," she said, not intending the obvious sexual pun and then also being completely oblivious to it.
"How did your riding strap break, R'lan?" she asked, worried. Odd, why should I be worried this much?

Rai fanned her wings in protest but made her way to where Shereae had place Nyl. Seeing her opportunity, the little green starting helping herself to the leftover meat strips. The brown rider made to protest, but her hands felt too good on stiff shoulders. He lolled his head forward, closing his eyes. "Rough is good darlin'"
His face went thoughtful as he remembered what had happened. His straps had been fine the night before. "I'm not sure how it happened, I guess the stress of between did it. Cracked the leather on the girth strap." I'm usually good with my riding gear... of all the things i shrink away from doing that isn't one of them.
Im sorry. worry tinged the brown's mind voice.[/b]
It wasn't your fault Ny. If it wasn't for you and your quick flying I would have been mush.
R'lan grinned his eyes still closed. "I'll have to hurt myself more often if this is the treatment I get."

Shereae grinned. "Indeed, you will," she said, enjoying the feeling of tensed muscles relax under her careful touch. "But you ought to be more careful with yourself. There are those that worry." Shereae felt wierd. A sense came over her at the man's scent--spicy and very sweaty. It was an entirely masculine smell, and Shereae's eyes went in and out of focus. What is this? she thought. The gold on the table twittered happily, her eyes growing purple between the blues.
The next thing she knew, she was down, whispering in the man's ear. "I worry, you know, R'lan." What am I doing here? Does it matter? Fall yeah, it matters. But she decided she didn't care. He was a very attractive man, and she loved the way he smelled...moved...talked...

“No I didn’t know, Shereae. Why do you worry?” The brown rider’s voice went down a few octaves lower, turning slightly husky. He kept his eyes closed and swallowed, tensing again. R’lan felt her pause, her fingers still. He took a deep breath, as a smile edged its way across his lips. Little girl, you don’t know what you do, what you play at. It was all the rider could do to keep from pulling her onto his lap and kissing her soundly.

Shereae laughed softly, moving her mouth away from the man's ear so she didn't hurt him. "Take care of yourself. Without health, happiness is nearly impossible," she told him, still whispering.
Then better sense grabbed her and held on tight. She whipped back so fast her neck cracked, and her hands on his shoulders began to rub, but much more softly. "I apologize, Lord R'lan," she said, invoking the old title. "I did not mean to invade your space. I don't know what came over me."
