Apri watched the different expressions on each of the three faces in fascination, trying to read each. There were many differences between them and yet, there was something there that was similar to them all.
Hearing Xicon’s comment, a weak smile formed on her face as she took another bite of stew. She too had noticed how good his hearing was, to be able to pick up even the slightest changes in attitude that most had a hard time even seeing with their eyes. Watching as a long fingered hand ran thru grey locks, she decided that there was nothing for her to say yet as she picked up her glass, never taking her eyes off the three.

Hearing the banter seemed to cheer Lanira out of the strange funk she was just in as she looked up again smiling like an exited Corana. “So you can hear where we are and how tall we are and everything… that is so neat, but… how do you know what people look like? Isn’t that hard? Not knowing what who your talking to looks like?” Xicon looked between the two of them almost like saying ‘yeah weasel your way out of that one.’ He had a hard time believing that Killian his little brother who had bumped into everything ever since he went blind was now perfectly normal… it was almost creepy in a way.
Killian however was smiling, “well that is easy Lanira, I touch them.” He laced his fingers together resting his elbows on the table, “anyone I talk to for any extended amount of time I ask to see their face… they have never said no though it is a bit embarrassing…” he blushed slightly not facing Apricus, he had been seeing her longer then anyone else, other then Corana and his family, and he never even hinted at wanting to see her face, even that night he did not say it right out. But Xicon looked pulsed, “why would it be embarrassing if that is what you need?”
Killian sighed, “not every family is as comfortable with people as we are besides… it’s a bit... intiment. I can feel things that people can’t see.” Lanira moved closer leaning across the small table. “Do me, come on I’ve changed in this amount of time, what do I look like.” Killian sat straighter for a moment tilting his head, “ok…”
Lanira closed her eyes as Killian reached the short distance across the table. His hands barely brushed her skin as he found her eyes and moving his thumbs and fingers across her face drew a detailed picture in his mind. He explored each crevice brushing her hair behind her ears and trailing down her jaw line. Her eyes closed Lanira shuddered slightly. But then he was gone; “you are purity as always Lanira, and that little mole under your left eye so cute.”
She just looked at him startled before bring her hand up to her face, yes intement was the right word. But leave it to Xicon to break the silence, “wow that was so cool Killian, no wonder Apricus likes…” but he stopped as Killian kicked him hard under the table his smile turning sinister and his blank eyes staring straight threw him as though he was picturing all kinds of horrible things he could do to him.

Apri’s eyebrows furrowed together slightly as he mentioned touching faces to see. The idea churned her stomach and yet, it made sense… She was thankful all the same that he hadn’t asked to ‘see’ her. She did not know if she would have been able to keep from fleeing on the spot.
Watching as the excited woman leaned forward, Apri was shocked that someone could be so willing, so eager to be touched. But then, it was family. What that the power of siblings? She couldn’t even imagine wanting someone to touch her.
As Killian’s fingers slid gently over the smooth skin of his sisters face, Apri fought to keep from shuddering. Looking down she focused on the rest of her stew. Her gaze did not remain there long, however, as his brother spoke again. Hearing her name, she looked up puzzled as he did not finish his sentence. What was he going to say?

Killian cleared his throat and faced his sister again, “anyway that is the closest thing I can get to seeing anyone with any detail.” He shrugged, as most new by now he didn’t mind not being able to see, there where occasions he preferred it, but there where others… “That’s ok though, its means I can think of people based on how they act and talk and not how they carry themselves or look. I’ve noticed in harping that people tend to wear masks to hide what they’re really like.” Like him… Killian always wore his mask, even now.
Reaching under the table to rub his shin where Killian had kicked him Xicon glared at the younger man, though not with any real malice, he was finally starting to understand what he was doing to make his brother hit him like that. “Well anyway, you said you where doing a duet… what song are you singing?” he directed the question at Apricus who had been fare to quite up to this point. “Oh I love duets!” Lanira clapped her hands together sighing as though they had just told her a romantic story. “Mom and dad used to sing one it was…” but she was interrupted by a sharp, “Lanira!” from Xicon, who was not smiling anymore.
Killian turned his face between them, staring at the fare corner of the hall, “what is it…? Lanira what happened?” something wasn’t right at all, he had a bad feeling. Xicon sighed looking at the table unable to bring himself to look anywhere ells, but Lanira answered, she wasn’t smiling and her voice was hesitant almost scared as though speaking it would make it come true. “You’ve heard about the sickness spreading around right? You had to have being this close to the healer hall, well you know mom… she had to tend them and well… she got sick and then dad did too…” she stopped also looking down. Killian was frozen she didn’t need to finish for him to know what was coming but Xicon did anyway. “they died Killian wile we where on the road here… we got the message three days ago, they’re… they’re going to wait for us to get back to have the funeral…”
Killian said nothing, his expression never changed, he just faced his lap where his hands where resting on his knees before he clenched them into fists under the table. When he did speak his voice was steady, not cheerful but not as hurt as his families either. “So they went together?” Lanira shook her head forgetting that he could not see it, “no… he went first, she seemed like she was going to recover but once he was gone she just gave up… that’s what sister said anyway.”

Apri had opened her mouth to answer Xicon, but closed it again as Lanira spoke up excitedly. A very deep frown formed on her lips, however, as news unfolded before her. Looking to Killian, she found his head facedown, hair hiding his eyes. Not that anyone would find anything in those cloudy eyes…
Her stomach knotted, realizing what this must be doing to Killian, to be hearing such news and not having been there to those he was so close to. At the next words spoken, she found herself having to swallow hard. She was not sure, not being one so close to people, but the way it was said she had a feeling it was not for the better, but for the much, much worse.
Silence engulfed them and Apri fought with herself. She should say something… Do something… People Skills… Looking at Killian again, she found herself struggling for words…
“Killian… You should go… to the funeral I mean… The masters would understand…”

Killian didn’t know what to say… he was lost unable to cry but unable to smile either, he was always able to smile but now he just looked down hiding his face with his hair until he could find his strength again. But then Apricus spoke and her voce broke through the clouds starting to form in his heart and mind. His head came up as he faced not his siblings but her, a small smile managed to find its way to his face, “your right Milady… perhaps… perhaps I could even sing for them, once.” That was not what he was going to say but there was no way she would go with him to Ista island.
That in turn brought sad smiles back to the other two faces as well. “I think they would like that Killian,” Lanira said but Xicon continued. “You know they never stopped talking about you, never even moved the furniture around so everything would be the same if you came back… I think they would love for you to sing.” Killians smiled widened a bit as he finally turned to face them, “then its settled I will speak to the masters, when are you heading back?” jumping on to the slightly less miserable toping Lanira grinned rolling her eyes. “We would go sooner but we didn’t think about the snow, so now we have to wait till the snow melts.” Xicon laughed also happy to move on, “yeah teach us to live on a tropical island our hold lives.” He hit his own head in emphasis as though it was his fault for never seeing snow.
“Anyway Killian we really do need to report to the healer hall.” Lanira stood, making Killian and Xicon stand in reaction. “it was a great pleasure meeting you Apricus, I hope we run into each other again.” She smiled down at the girl as Xicon spoke to Killian, “we are staying in the Healer hall but we will probably come down here for meals, we look forward to seeing you, and you.” He nodded and winked at Apricus, sure that if Killian could he it he would have hit him again. They took turns hugging Killian, but did not move to hug Apricus as he again stepped between them, preventing them from getting to close. So instead they waved as they heading for the door.
Once they where gone Killian continued to face the door, but when he spoke his voice was soft and he was talking to Apricus, “thank you milady… for everything.”

Standing as they said their goodbye’s, Apri put another smile on her face, though this time it was a sad one. The poor family… to have lost both parents at once? Well at least they had eachother…
Waving goodbye, she was slightly startled as a soft voice came to her from Killian, who stood with his back to her. Blushing slightly at his words, she tried to smile, for his sake. “I’m glad I could help… though how I did… I’m not to sure…” Her voice was equally soft, and she meant what she said. She hadn’t thought her suggestion to go to the funeral would be so meaningful… or was there something she missed?

Killian’s smile turned a bit happier as he finally turned away from the door to face the woman. “You where here Milady. You came to lunch with us even though I know you didn’t want to, and you put up with my brother even though he was being really crude, I apologies for that, and I was at a loss for words, for the first time since my Harper training I didn’t know what to say.” He moved to pick up his stick and his guitar, which he had placed next to him on the table, again strapping it to his back. “thank you… it wasn’t exactly what you said but the fact that you said anything at all…” he took a step back and bowed slightly at the waist, “so shall we practice?”

Listening to his words, she swallowed. She had spoken up when everyone else was silent hadn’t she? Finding a slight happiness in being able to help, she smiled a genuine smile, small as it might have been, even though he could not see it.
“Yes… lets practice… perhaps it too will help?” Taking her usual position several steps in front of Killian, she lead the way back to the room, a thousand and one thoughts going thru her mind.
