Daine's hand left her side as she breathed a sigh of relief. Gone. The small running cramp had disappeared, thanks to S'for needing to stop. Speaking of which...the greenrider looked over to the fellow dragonrider. He looked almost done, so maybe she should start running again. But he had helped her out, maybe without even knowing it, so it wouldn't be that hard to wait only a few seconds more. Veralidaine looked up and spotted R'lan and L'nuo headed their way. Now what were they up to? She eyed them warily, but held her tongue. Oh, what she wouldn't give to say something to them right now. A sharp greenrider's voice interrupted though, and although grateful for the interruption, Daine bristled at her words.
Her fists clenched down at her sides, and she was shaking with the pent up anger for Marita. "What? What did you just say?" She spat out the words, her green eyes glowing in their heated emerald fire. If any looked into her eyes, they would truly be the windows to her soul, mirroring her burning anger that made her want to lash out at the girl. She stood her ground, using all of her effort not to go off and run after her. "Come back here and say it to my face, crackdust! Come on, coward!" By now she was too busy to see S'hon jogging her way. She continued, her voice razor sharp. "I didn't ask for them to come over to me, and I was helping S'for. Maybe you should get the full story before you pin your jealousy on me! You can have them for all I care, but no one...NO ONE says that to me!"
All of her anger pulsed through her veins so fast she was starting to find it difficult to breathe. Her head started swimming around in circles, and she stumbled back against the rock. No, if Marita came back she would not be seen like this. Daine forcefully pushed herself off the rock, swaying a bit before catching her balance. She finally realized S'hon's presence, but there was something different about him. There were three of him! She squinted at him and blinked several times. How was he doing that? The greenrider shook her head to try and clear her thoughts, only making her more dizzy. "Shards..."

Marita tried in vain to ignore the screaming shouts of the woman behind her, she did succeed in not turning back around and not speeding up but her heart was beating with an anger that might have matched her sister riders. As though she wasn’t enough of an attention seeker with out shouting at the top of her lungs. Sprinting as she reached the steeper part of the hill Marita brooded in silence.
***
S’hon stopped just as Veralidaine began to shout at the top of her voice. Arching an eyebrow S’hon glanced up the hill to see who on Pern could have possibly upset Veralidaine so much. But he couldn’t tell who the culprit was and just as he turned back he saw the green rider swoon. Her face had been red from shouting a moment before but now it seemed to have lost all color he stepped forward and reached out a hand instinctively to steady her but recoiled before they touched. “R’lan, L’nor keep moving you’ll need more momentum to make it up the hill and not be winded.” He watched them for only a moment before turning his eye back on Veralidine and S’for his voice softened only slightly warming the ice only enough that those who new him best would notice the difference. “can you continue Varalidaine, S’for?”

S'for grimaced in pain as he pulled the boot off. The large red blister on his ankle had burst open and burned like fire. He was thankful Daine had offered him part of her shirt. He watched her cut it up and was startled to notice her shapely figure. Why she would hide her figure behind such baggy clothes he didn't quite understand, but then he didn't really know why she would hide her true self behind a wall of sarcasm and anger either.
"My boots are new and they have rubbed a large blister on my ankle sir" he said as he turned his leg to show R'lan. The blister was oozing slightly and still burned. He was about to say more when Marita bumped into R'lan and then made her comments. He was glad she kept going. Maybe her dragon was proddy, that might account for her behavior.
S'for then turned his attention to S'hon. "I have a blister sir." he said also showing S'hon. "I asked Veraldaine if she had anything I could use to pad my boot with. I just finished when you arrived." he said as he tried to get his boot back on. It was obvious it wouldn't fit with the extra padding. He looked on anxiously as Daine looked like she was fainting. What could be wrong?
"I could try barefoot sir but these stones here might be too hard to run on." he answered.

When Marita never returned, Daine seemed to calm down. She steadied herself again before closing her eyes and counting to three. When they opened again, the world was moving back in place. Ah, so there was only one of S'hon. She nodded to the Weyrsecond. Yes, she could make it up the rest of the way. But looking at S'for, it didn't seem that he would. She waited for a moment, unsure of what she was doing. Really, she should be running again by now! Daine watched S'for as he struggled to fit his boot on without hurting his blisters. Walking barefoot on rocks would do nothing to help either. She watched him in frustration, and finally took a step forward.
"Give me those!" She snatched the bits of her shirt from him and motioned for him to give her one of his feet. Even with her snapping tone and bitter glares, her hands worked softly and diligently. The fabric was wrapped carefully around the foot and back again, then tied at the ankle. She repeated the process with his other foot and stood. Veralidaine turned back to S'hon. "I could take him to the Infirmary. Wesayath isn't doing anything important." What's wrong? I'll fill you in later. The green muttered to herself, but agreed she wasn't busy. Not only did taking S'for to the infirmary give her less of a chance of getting in more trouble this Wing Practice, but she would actually get out of it earlier as well. Well, that sure worked in hers and S'for's favor.

S’hon didn’t answer the pare right away, taking his time to look Varalidaine up and down, finally satisfied that she was really ok he shook his head. “No S’for, any good this run would do would be nuled if you had to do it barefoot.” He glanced over at him again but was more intent of the green riders quick soft motions as she wrapped the man’s foot, he noticed her figure for the first time but made no note about it not liking the kind of human contact that figure suggested.
“Your willingness to help is well noted Varalidaine but S’for has his own dragon to take him to the infirmary,” the ice always present in his voice gave no hint to the pleasant surprise he felt at her offer, “you should start running again, the top of the hill is the half way mark.” He then turned all of his attention on S’for “do you really need the infirmary? If the blisters where that bad you should have told us sooner, there is no point in hurting your self for the sake of a drill we can postpone.”

S'for was grateful to Daine for her ministrations. He only winced once during the wrapping. He smiled inwardly that her gentleness belied her gruff words. She truly was a complex girl. "Thank you Daine, I really appreciate your kindness." he said softly when she had finished. He watched to see what her expression would be, but not obviously.
"No sir, I really don't need the infirmary. It's nothing that a good slathering of numbweed won't help, but sir if E'mion had let us know ahead of time what the drill was going to be then I wouldn't have worn these new boots to jog in." he said, emphasising the word new. "I realize that under some circumstances there isn't always time to prepare for a situation and I do understand the reason for this drill and feel it is necessary. I also know when you go into a situation unprepared that there are usually alot more casualties. Please don't let anyone postpone it on my account. Everyone else is working too hard. I promise to make it up as soon as this blister heals. I know you jog this route frequently and I will go with you as soon as I can." he replied.

Daine looked away and stood as S'for thanked her. She turned to S'hon instead and gave him a stiff nod. So, she still had to run. Shards! And here could have been the perfect opportunity to miss it. Well, she had better get started. Daine turned to S'for quickly and rushed out her words. "Just get better, dimglow." With a second glance to the Wingsecond, she turned back to the jogging path and started back again.
As she reached the halfway spot at the top of the slope, she found a bunch of others waiting for S'hon. Well, she didn't know where to go next either, but still. Until the Wingsecond would arrive, Veralidaine, crossed her arms and leaned back against a rock to rest. Halfway finished, and she wanted to hurry up so she could finally get some sleep.

E'mion followed the slower riders, mostly those looking to retire soon, and noticed that they had found the front of the pack. Frowning a little, he wondered what was happening. [iMalekith, ask Mazbeth what is going on.[/i] E'mion wondered what kind of things had gone wrong. Concerned, many possiblities flashed thru his mind and he wondered if his judgement was slipping. Was a run in the dark of night such a good idea.
Don't be silly. Your judgement is sound. If you can do it and your seconds can do it, then your wing should be able to do it. As long as you don't expect more out of them than you can do then you are in your sound judgement. Malekith reasurred his rider as he conveyed the question to Mazbeth as to the occuring incedents.

Mazbeth listened carefully to his bronze brothers question before reassuring him that nothing was wrong, that there had been a slight hold up and his rider had just stopped to see what the problem was, they will be starting soon S’hon is heading back up the hill now
Back on the trail S’hon only gave the green rider a slight nod before continuing his address to S’for. “Alright Wingrider, once you are healed we can go on this run again but until then you should get back up to your weyr.” Nodding once to signify he was done with the conversation S’hon stated back up the hill. When he got there S’hon scowled at the riders, the path was not that hard a little rocky but it was a strait shot until the next sharp turn that would take them though some trees… the least they could have done was made it that fare before stopping.
“What are you all waiting for!” he shouted as he approached and then passed them, “it is a strait shot until the trees!” picking up his pace S’hon quickly caught up with and passed the few that had continued to run. don’t be to hard on them S’hon they don’t know this trail like you do. it’s a bright moon Maz they can see the path well enough to know they can keep going. [/i] the bronze did not reply to this but S’hon did slowdown to allow the others to catch up with out sprinting.

Mazbeth assures that it was a small incedent and S'hon had taken care of it. the bronze relayed simply as he shifted his bulk on the rocky ledge that he lay. I do not think there is much to worry about. Have faith in your wing second.
E'mion laughed silently at his dragon. I've always had faith in my wing seconds. Its you I sometimes worry about. The reply was an angry snort from the bronze. E'mion's eyes twinkled as he continued the run.
With him behind the slowest of the wing, it was an easy pace, but he pushed them still. None wanted to run too close to their wingleader for fear of being thought slow and weak. E'mion knew this and kept a pace slightly brisker than he knew the slower ones were use to. They needed to stretch their legs anyways.

S'for just chuckled lightly at Daine's retort. He knew she was really thankful for the easing of her stitch but he didn't think she realized he had porposely used that time to reveal his blister. He watched her as she turned to leave and then turned back to S'hon.
He nodded back at S'hon and watched him begin his ascent of the hill. He then called to Alarath. It took him reaching deeply as Alarath was already sleeping. I have developed a nasty blister and need to return to the Weyr to treat it.
I come was the sleppy reply.
As S'for waited he looked down the hill to see E'mion begin the long climb.

S'hon seemed to wake Daine up from her short daydream, or should she say short dream at night, and she pushed herself from the rock she leaned against. Well, halfway there. The greenrider began to jog once again, making sure she stayed at the front of the group. The followed along the trail, and all Daine could think about was getting sleep. Why couldn't she just take S'for to the infirmary and then go to bed? Better yet, somehow sneak away from the group to have Wesayath come pick her up. That might work. The wingrider looked around, seeing the group loosely spread out. Not too easy to notice one rider missing, now was it?
No, but they will notice you missing. They always have to be on the lookout when you're actually there. Daine growled at Hers. Well aren't they lucky I showed up today? I stayed at least halfway, I should be able to go now. This time it was the green's turn to get annoyed. Why can't you just act like you're not a weakling and do as the others are? They do it, so why can't you? Daine bristled. I am not weak! And maybe because I already know I can, so I don't need to prove it to anyone else. Wesayath didn't agree, but Daine ignred anything she might have had to say anyway. Well, that meant the green wasn't going to come pick her up. Unless Daine decided to work on her a bit more. They did have awhile to go yet anyway. She sighed and tried to make out a compromise with the green. Maybe a promised bath would work?

E'mion's steady pace slowed as he noticed S'for... What was he doing? Realizing this must have been the slight problem he slowed, expecting details. "Whats happened here? Are you ok?" He asked as he slowed to a halt before his wingrider.

S’hon kept his pace up as he rounded the second to the last turn and entered the thick forest. If the riders thought it was dark out under the stars it was nothing to this as the thick branches of the tall trees blocked almost all light struggling to reach the leaf strewn floor.
Tall shapes loomed over him as he had to remind himself yet again that his wing mates did not run this trail as often has he did, as he slowed his jog down to keeping it at a safe if not steady pace for this change of scenery.

S'for watched as E'mion approached him.
"I was wearing a new pair of boots sir." he said, indicating the boots on the ground beside him. "They have rubbed some large blisters on my ankles. I tried to keep going until they broke open. S'hon told me to go treat them and I will make up for the run when they have healed." he said. "I am sorry that I have to drop out but I wasn't prepared for a jog." he added lamely. He sure didn't want to look like a weakling to his Wingleader. He looked at E'mion, hoping not to see a look of disgust.
With a blast of cold air Alarath appeared from between. He landed near them and waited for S'for to mount.
